Duncan, there are two kind of apps runable in Wine, lets call them builtin and
native. Builtin programs should come with Wine (I've enumerated some of them in
reply to Vitaliy). I guess these definitely should get their icons for nice
Wine-to-GUI integration in ideal case. Are you talking of these?
And there may be native Win32 programs, that you can try to install. Icons for
them should appear in your Gnome as programs create them during setup process,
as Vitaliy have said. Maybe you are talking about that case?

Summary: Installing keeptool fails to install all selected
components
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://keeptool.com
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Try to install keeptool from keeptool.com:
$ wget ftp://ftp.keeptool.de/KeepTool7.0.exe
$ wine KeepTool7.0.exe
Be sure to pick "Install All Components".
Then run it:
$ cd ~/".wine/drive_c/Program Files/KeepTool/KeepTool 7"
$ wine Hora.exe
Click on 'Cancel' on the login popup.
In 'Tools' menu, select 'ER Diagrammer'.
It will fail with a dialog box
"Could not find C:\Program Files\KeepTool\KeepTool 7\ErDgr.exe".
Now rerun the installer with +msi. You'll see a line like
trace:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles File L"ErDgr.exe" is not scheduled for install
That seems wrong.

It does complete now, though there are several long pauses,
possibly associated with errors like this:
err:advapi:service_control_dispatcher failed to create pipe for L"IDriverT",
error = 0
And there is an error dialog box about not being able to register one DLL,
as James described.

All I can say - good luck.
Wine does not implement none of the win networking. And you will have more
chances getting Samba to write some utility like this.
It also seems that Samba project doesn't play all that well with Wine. And just
recently refused re-licence of some of their libraries under LGPL - a must for
Wine to work with Samba. And that's just for encryption and single sign-on.
psexec is _not_ a real life program but an internal hack. Most of the stuff that
sysinternals use is not even documented by m$. And what is, is not acurate.

I have a real life program that depends on this function. It's called psexec.
I'm attempting to utilize it inside of a automation Linux environment to perform
actions on Windows systems.
>From a wine developer, I expected a more professional response to a real bug.
A user group is actively looking for such a tool to run under Linux:

Any particular reason you need to run such programs? They are purposely made for
winNT and of course won't work on Wine. If you have a real life program that
depends on this function - reopen.
