Indeed it does flicker!
I don't have permission to assign it this to myself (though i've just asked for
it), but I'll be looking into this.
Thanks for the excellent bug report.

Could it be the 7800GT is not detected correctly by wine?
Is your card detected or does it say fake card too? Could this be my problem?

A regression in wine 0.9.18 causes text entered into the open-source KeyNote
(http://keynote.sf.net) to flicker when typing. I regression-tested it using git
bisect and got this as the problem patch:
alex@ubuntu:~/Base/wine-git$ git bisect bad

The attached movie demonstrates the problem. Because of the framerate of the
capture, the flicker is exaggarated - what really happens is that every time you
press a key, all your text are flicker for a microsecond, but it's still bloody
annoying to type that way. Of course, the problem still exists in the most
recent Wine release (0.9.20)
To reproduce this bug, install keynote from the given link and launch it. It
should open with the default sample note showing (if not, sample.knt is in the
same directory as keynote.exe; load it.). Just start typing into the text pane
and the text will flicker.

Guys,
I have a widescreen laptop here, and I cannot reproduce...
I need more information. Display driver name and version. Crash dump created by
game from the game directory Errors. Also update your Wine. Also get logs set
with WINEDEBUG=+xrandr,+x11settings. Also send a compressed copy of your
user.reg. Use the attachment method.
One important thing to note. The game only supports 4:3 resolutions. Those other
resolutions don't show up because the game does not want you to run those.

Ok, just tested it some more, and it is indeed a gamma issue for me (as if you
didn't already know that). Nothing wrong with xrandr or anything like that.
However the ability to lock gamma might be nice in case other games want to
change it within a virtual desktop and the game doesn't have a switch, if that
is something that Wine should be doing.
Oh, and thanks for the Diablo II switch, it's much better than a virtual desktop.

Patch sent.
It is true that the monitor test exposes a problem with mode handling, being
that xrandr is allowed to change the display before the desktop window is
created. However, I looked at Diablo 2 for the same behavior and it's not there.
I really believe his complaint comes from his gamma setting. Xrandr only accepts
valid modes too unless his xorg.conf is messed up.

I've tested the game to check for what you said. I checked xrandr before and
while running Diablo 2. No refresh change occured, and I don't think what you
said is possible at all considering no mode change actually happened. What you
see is the gamma levels changing, and it's fixable in-game.
Note: When you use -w, the game just disables gamma changing.

I suppose that refresh rate changes could be disabled for virtual desktop. It
needs to be confirmed though.
The brighter screen is probably from gamma changes, and probably should be left
alone. Adjust it in-game if it's too annoying.
I recommend to use the -w switch to Diablo II to use the game's actual windowed
mode. Can be used without virtual desktop.

Summary: Game in Windowed Virtual Desktop Changes Refresh Rate
(Diablo II)

Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: capitalista(a)gmail.com
My screen resolution is 1280x1024@60hz. I created a virtual desktop so I could
play a game (in this case, Diablo II) within my WM. However, while playing the
game, it would change the refresh rate. My screen would turn much brighter, and
it wouldn't go back to normal unless I exited the game, although sometimes I
would have to revert the change manually.
My guess is that it was changed to 85hz, a valid mode for me at lower
resolutions, but not at 1280x1024.
It seems that the refresh rate should stay at whatever the actual screen is set
to, and should only be changed when the game is running full screen.
Hope this can be fixed, and hope this is filed under the right section.

Summary: no Special Characters in Flash Player
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: magicdead(a)gmx.ch
i installed firefox.exe and flash player 9 under wine, firefox works flawless
and so does flash, except that when i enter a german special character, e.g.
äöü, the input field turns blank and it doesn't display the text containing the
special characters. I can input special characters in firefox, so it must be due
to flash player, but as normal flashplayer on linux does support those special
characters, i guess it has to do something with wine emulation.
System is ubuntu dapper 6.06, wine 0.9.9 (though i also had the bug in newer
versions of wine), i got msttcorefonts and so on installed, so i don't think
it's a font issue.

I've tested Photoshop with 0.9.8 and it works alot better. Some buttons are
missing from the palettes and resizing them causes the X server to freeze, which
is quite annoying since they are misplaced at startup. To make the appear
correctly: Window -> Workspace -> Reset palette localtions.
Also the palettes are always-on-top even when the photoshop window isnt.
Anyways, it'd be nice to have a perfectly working PS7..

Now that the max msi handles bug is fixed, this is now an ole bug. The log is
too big to attach, but I'll show the interesting part. CoUninitialize is
called, then the installer seemingly halts (not that it fails, just gets stuck)
while "copying files". +ole shows a huge stream of:
trace:ole:__CLSIDFromString L"{5CE52F68-63AD-4363-B47C-3E326DB3388E}" -> 0x620898a0

trace:ole:__CLSIDFromString L"{5CE52F68-63AD-4363-B47C-3E326DB3388E}" -> 0x62089850
and that takes you to where I pkill -9 wine. I tried to use native
ole,oleaut,rpcrt4, but I wasn't able to install DCOM.

The bug seems to be in comctl32/toolbar.c
If I add the following FIXMEs (see patch) I get the following numbers
fixme:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize width=16
fixme:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize height=16
fixme:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize width=38
fixme:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize height=38

fixme:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize width=16
fixme:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize height=16
fixme:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize width=38
fixme:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize height=38
These numbers are obviously wrong and if I change them (hardcoding sizes in the
code) I can see more of the images in the toolbar.
I don't know what to do next.

tool.exe and with gta2 manager.exe also error messages from those looks the same
to your debug messages I think this is problem with the big ddraw patch that
moves ddraw to wine3d(between wine 0.9.15 and 0.9.16) that cause opengl problems
ocurring from ddraw apps.
second workaround is to give command: xrandr -s 0
or any commmand that "refresh the screen" but I am not so sure how this works on
fullscreen apps at lest it works in window apps.

Hello,
according to the AppDB page the Far Cry demo should install properly. However,
using Wine 0.9.20 on Ubuntu 6.06 x86_64 it reports an error and won't actually
install anything (the installer won't crash and quits properly, though).
I get the very same error code when executing msiexec /i on the .msi file.
See the attached screenshot.

I created a new wine directory with wineprefixcreate --prefix .testwine,
and installed cloud into this directory. It ran very nicely, no "Error
Initializing User Input" popup.

They certainly were helpful. So is this a "bug" as such, or just a problem
with existing "baggage" in the wine directory?
Thanks again

qgit shows only the good bisections. According to the log I sent in, the last
bad commit is [9985c42150582c07038ece79a0a874bef8379d9b] wingdi: Fix typo in
definition of BLTALIGNMENT (spotted by Choe Hwanjin). This one doesn't appear in
the output of "git whatchanged". Do you want the very first commit listed in

I have a listing of each bisection except the last. If necessary I will import
these in turn without compiling in between.

Ok just making sure it's not related to a "widescreen" resolution bug in the game.

Can't be a dupe of bug 5691 because this game appears that it doesn't use dinput
at all.
I don't think it's related to anything to do with input because I can reproduce
a lockup on the load game menu without moving the mouse at all. Don't think wine
can't keep up with drawing, but there might be a race condition.
