As mentioned in my other thread, certains DirectDraw games that used to works
ince 2005 stopped working after upgrade. The following games still runs, but
they displayed black screen/white screen instead of spirits. I believe the two
game shares the same error, so I am filing them together.
Here's the game that used to work:

Waves work properly. They show both the correct current time / total time, and
allow you to ffwd / rewinds. Mp3s show 0:0 total time, but show the correct
position as the Mp3 places.
Just tested with 0.9.20 and VLC 0.8.5

>From the site admin @ http://www.prairiegames.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1242
<blockquote>"4. Subversion (as a cross platform auto-patching solution): We use
Subversion for versioning control. The merits of version control on a
project are well documented. I am mentioning Subversion in the post mortem for
it's use as a backend to our auto-patching system. I wrote some Python scripts
that are able to build demo/full version distributions from the game's sources
and data files.
The scripts inspect assets like dif/dts to find out what files are needed. They
also open up the RPG Database to find out what textures, sounds, models, etc are
actually used. The scripts generate jpg files from pngs and do other operations
to get the file sizes down. Multiple SHA checksums are then generated for every
file and the results are stored in a manifest.zip file. The client keeps a cache
of local SHA checksums and connects to the game's Subversion repository which is
being served over SSL. It requests the manfest.zip and compares the SHA
checksums with the local ones. The client then downloads any missing or changed
files, verifies them once downloaded, requests the user to restart the
application, and then copies the new files into the install. It's all very anal
and has performed beautifully. It was awesome to painlessly patch users during
the beta process. I don't remember getting one complaint!"</blockquote>
This is, IMHO, something that should work with wine. It's subversion for
chrissakes. Anybody else getting SVN to work with wine, or am I doing something
wrong? Yes, I have tried without any firewalls.

2) Add a slingbox device to your device directory.
3) Select the device and click "edit properties"
4) Click the information tab.
5) Application will segfault.
You do not need a SlingBox device to test this bug report. For step 2 add your
device with a static IP address, and enter any IP address. The software does
not actually, connect to the device for the menus used in these steps.
* Not that after installing the application you will need to gain a native copy
msxml3.dll. You must then manually register it with regserv32, prior to running
SlingPlayer.exe, or the application will not start.

SlingPlayer is a piece of software that allows you to connect to a setup box
like device and stream television content via your network or the internet. (see
appdb entry for more info.) This application is based on Windows Media Player.
The installer runns correctly, but once you run SlingPlayer.exe it will connect
to the SlingBox device as it does under Windows. However, if you attempt to
stream any video content from the device it provides a error via msgbox "Unable

reinstall the product."

Using +all spews out more information than anyone would probably ever care to
see for about 30 - 40 minutes before outputting the messages in my last comment

Hi and thanks for WINE!
I started investigating if we could use WINE as a method to allow us to use the
Neon mail client called MEMO. I opened a bug 6018 which I closed since it was my
first attempt and my environment was quite crappy from wines point of view.
Now I have compiled 0.9.19 and have successfully opend the memoclient.exe! I can
se my mailbox, I see new mails popping in highlited with a new mail symbol in
frontof them, I can even go into the scheduler - highlite a timespan and create
a newevent with memoedit (it failed though with adding other participants (my
machine started to swap as a maniac - we don't use the scheduler so we can live
without it!)). The part that is important is to be able to open the emails with
memoedit.exe or create new ones... But here it crashes with an runtime error as
shown in the screendump I will attach. I believe I have a log as well otherwise
I will recreate the error an later attach the log!

Summary: Master of Orion 2 hangs as soon as mouse is moved
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.19.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lhouk(a)lesliehouk.com
I recently installed Fedora Cora 5 (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5) on my PC, and then
installed Wine (0.9.19) from the Fedora yum repository. I installed Master of
Orion II, and tried to run it. It started OK, but as soon as I moved the mouse,
it seemed to hang. My keyboard and mouse stopped working, and the only way I
could break out was to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and log out. I tried this repeatedly,
and it happened each time.
When MOO2 runs under Wine, it actually has two cursors, the Linux arrowhead
cursor and MOO2's cursor, a pointing hand. When I move the mouse, the Linux
cursor slides across the window just fine, but the MOO2 cursor jerks once or
twice, trying to keep up with the Linux cursor, and then hangs. Maybe the
problem is that Wine gets more requests to redraw the MOO2 cursor than it can
keep up with? (Although it works just fine on the same PC under Windows 2000.)
Are there any WINEDEBUG settings I should try that can help diagnose the problem?
If anyone needs it for testing, a time-limited demo of MOO2 is available from
"http://www.download.com/Master-of-Orion/3000-7564_4-10247352.html". Thanks in
advance to all who respond.

There are different versions of the msxml3 installer. The filename is the same,
but the installer isn't. Get the msxml3.msi from the URL in this bug report.

Interesting, because this appears to be the exact same bug in the MSXML3

I misreading this?

After several tries, I can say that MOO2 no longer crashes under Wine -- in
other words, it never shuts itself down and produces a crashlog. It seems that
the fix in 0.9.18 did indeed take care of this problem. What it is still doing
consistently is hanging when I move the cursor.
Are there any WINEDEBUG settings I should try that can help
diagnose the problem?
Oh, Jesse, I did try running wineprefixcreate, and it doesn't seem to have made
any difference. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Ok... I've installed the proper NVidia drivers for my Linux and the game stopped
complaining, everything seems to be working now (except for the GameGuard and
the mouse centering problem, but these were discussed into another topic yet).
Well, the only "problem" that I see in presenting the driver to Windows apps
based in the Linux drivers is that if you don't have a proper, up-to-dated,
Linux driver available for your video card at all, then you're totally
screwed... Also, if you're using some weird unknown adapter installed with its
own wierdo video driver, Wine probably won't be able to properly parse it either.
Maybe it could be able to implement some kind of "Virtual Graphics Adapter
Driver" into Wine. This "Virtual GFD" would contain basicaly the adapter's
vendor and driver version, and maybe some adapter capabilities as well, if
that's required by the adapter. These would be the info presented to the Windows
apps when they require it. Also, this "Virtual GFD" should be something as
simple as possible, with just the basics, allowing the community to provide new
versions of existing drivers as well as creating and supporting new drivers as
soon as they're required.
Ok, I'm not sure whether that's a good idea or not, neither if it's possible to
do so. But then I'm not the expert here, I'm just giving away my 2 cents on
this... ;)
Well, thanks for the help. I'm changing the resolution of this thread to FIXED.
Regards,
asm

Yes you should install the binary nvidia drivers to get proper opengl support.
But we should probably rework what driver version we present to windows apps.
For a linux system with the binary nvidia drivers it should already be similar
to windows, but I think for other linux drivers it's not similar at all.

OK, then you're saying that Wine parses my Linux OpenGL video driver and creates
a compatible (emulated) Direct3D-capable Windows driver, on-the-fly, and since
my OpenGL video driver is a Mesa one, then the msg in game about the outdated
video driver... Am I right?... Sorry to be bothering you all but, well, I think
it's better to understand than to just "scream for help"... ;)
BTW, meh, Mesa driver?? Crap, this is something new for me. Thought that Ubuntu
had installed appropriated NVidia drivers "automagically"...
Well, if I got the scene right, I'll update my Linux video driver and the
problem is over. TYVM

Output Log file, the right one... ;)
Lineage2 C4 + Ubutun6.06 Dapper Drake - Output log file
Oh, thanks for the tip! I believe I have a secret desire to make things more
complicated than they really are! ROFL
Anyways, here are the right log files. I tried to figure it out myself, but
meh... Didn't get to any concrete conclusions.
BTW, thanks for the help, and gratz by the really great job with Wine!
(And I mean it man! It really rocks! I know how hard is to keep an open source
project growing and evolving, since I actively participate in some projects
either, like L2J - the biggest one I've contributed at least)

The WINEDEBUG stuff is right, then just execute normally and redirect the output
to a file (something like: wine foo.exe &>file.txt ); then attach the file.

About the recently added patch....
Cleaning up header info on WM_NCDESTROY instead of WM_DESTROY allows PAF to
query for the number of columns in the header and save it out to the registry.
It is suspicious that the last 4 events for the HEADER_WindowProc are:
WM_DESTROY
HDM_GETITEMCOUNT
WM_DESTROY
WM_NCDESTROY
So anyway, if it needs more looking into, at least it is narrowed down this much.

Will do and I'll post a reply. I found out that some programs like to add
things as security measures into the registry could this be causing it?

Lineage2 C4 + Ubuntu6.06 Dapper Drake :: Winedbg +d3d_caps Log file
not sure how to generate this log file. This is what I did:
# export WINEDEBUG=+d3d_caps
# winedbg "c:\\Lineage2\\system\l2.exe"
> minidump l2_dapper606.mdmp
> cont
> q
I hope that this is what you were expecting. If not, could you please give me
some tips on how to generate this +d3d_caps log?...

could you provide a description of the problem, what you were trying to do, what
app this is, what exactly happened, etc? If no response, this will be assumed
to be invalid.

I have now tried compiling the 0.9.20 FreeBSD port and this still has the
problem (as expected)
I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to replace the port version
with the package one (so I can see if the problem is to do with how I am
compiling the code)
See also my comments in http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=5603 for
the difference in visable fonts I got between the port and the package.
(an AppDBEntry is waiting approval)
best regards
Dave

No sign of a problem with overwriting some file in the log. It seems your
warn+all didn't work.
As there are many ole errors, perhaps try with native dcom?

This bug is still present in 0.9.19, although not as bad. An application will at
least start with keyboard focus if it doesn't have a desktop, but doesn't get
focus back if it should ever lose it.

I can also confirm that it exists in 0.9.18 and 0.9.20 in Ubuntu Dapper Drake.
So you are not able to sign up with a new account or add a new game.
