Hi, just wondering , are you using the very latest wine-0.9.22? Because
mysteriously the crash for me is gone with latest git. I can now also start the
game with the red car (Ford Mustang) and it doesn't crash anymore4. It used to
crash for me always with an invalid float operation. I have OSS+emulation selected.

That's what the installer keyword is for. You can see from the relay log that
the installer hasn't even called an msi function. Is there a demo download

Theoretically it's possible. In the short term, we're using Mozilla for
rendering, which works, but it renders like Mozilla and not IE. It's possible
that way down the line we could implement rendering by ourselves and make it
match IE, but if that ever happens, it would be a long time from now.

Thank you for the explanation, James, but I'm still not entirely clear on the
situation. Are you saying that the DLLs installed by those scripts are somehow
broken, or how the script configures everything to work together somehow breaks
this functionality? Will it ever be possible to run IE in Wine without any
scripts and get the same rendering behaviors that IE exhibits under Windows?
Does Wine itself already implement this feature properly?

What you see when you run Internet Explorer is provided by several core windows
dlls, mostly shdocvw.dll and mshtml.dll. If you are running IE, then that means
you used ies4linux to install IE, and you are overriding at least shdocvw.dll
and mshtml.dll (and about 50 other dlls). Thus, the problem cannot possibly be
in wine's shdocvw and mshtml.

I'm not sure what you're trying to suggest. Are the Wine developers choosing not

Wouldn't it be up to Wine to implement this, not an installer script?

Summary: IE CSS filters are broken
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.21.
Platform: All
URL: http://brodierao.com/etc/wine/filters.html
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-shdocvw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dackze(a)gmail.com
With Wine 0.9.21 (and older versions), Internet Explorer's proprietary CSS
"filter" property does not work. This is commonly used to provide alpha
transparency for PNGs in IE6 and IE5.5 (IE4 supports it with different filter
names). The URL in this bug report shows a very basic example of a CSS filter,
but for an example of alpha transparency in PNGs, see
http://webfx.eae.net/dhtml/pngbehavior/demo.html . More information can be found
at MSDN: http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/filter/filters.asp .
I didn't see any interesting message with WINEDEBUG set to "fixme+all". I get
the same gist of messages for any page, regardless of what CSS filters are
present, but I can attach a log if necessary.
I also would like to say this is a fairly important feature for web designers
and programmers. I implement web designs, which frequently employ advanced
effects such as translucency, and not being able to test that without Windows is
a bit of an annoyance.
Also, I'm not entirely sure if wine-shdocvw is the right component for this bug
report, so forgive me if that's incorrect.

Tested in a console, and get the same error, as well as some err:imagelist
errors as cmd.exe starts - which I assume is just because no X server is available.
Also - the crash doesn't occur with "rename", which just reports "Path not
found" as it should.

PowerDVD 4.0 is installable, if this workaoround is made:
Copy mfc42.dll in the /windows/system32 directory, with the corresponding dll
override in winecfg.
Detailed:
0. rm -rf ~/.wine
1. run winecfg and set mfc42.dll for overriding
2. copy mfc42.dll into the /windows/system32 directory
3. install PowerDVD
The idea was delivered from bug 6034 by Louis Lenders. Thanks Louis!

Unfortunately the fix that worked on the work computer does not fix the home
computer. The celeron box still can't start the game. Not clear what is
required to correct this, but it is an ugly error and may force me to go back to
dual boot. Did try removing the shading and running emulation but no
combination turned the system back on.
This remains a bug.
It seems to be hardware specific, so I will try to be more specific about my HW.
Not tonight though.

Hi, PowerDVDTrial crashes in GetLongPathNameW. It calls GetLongPathNameW like
GetLongPathName(NULL,NULL,0). I don't know if this strange call is because of
not fully successfull installation process, but i think it should not crash
wine. The patch i'll attach hereafter avoids the crash, but i do not know if
it's fully correct, so i attach it here so hopefully someone can review this.

Hi, the simple sample from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/fileio/fs/…
(end of the page) does not work for me in wine.
The output on wine is:
The full path name for the file test.txt is: C:\testfile.txt
The short path name for the directory c:\longdirectoryname is: c:\LONG~TX4
GetLongPathName failed with error 2.
On windows you get:
The full path name for the file test.txt is: C:\testfile.txt
The short path name for the directory c:\longdirectoryname is: c:\LONGDI~1
The long path name for the directory c:\longdirectoryname is: c:\longdirectoryname
I was not able to compile the sample with i386-mingw-gcc, because the linker
complained that _GetLongPathName could not be found, which is another strange
thing. So i compiled it on windows, and i'll attach executable hereafter.
There's also another bug in GetLongPathNameW, but i'll file separate bug for that.

err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP60.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program File

If you copy them, (and gdiplus.dll) to system32 , before you start the
installation, the installation works fine for me. Only thing is it takes a
_really_ long time (~ 15 min). It copies al lot of gifs and html files, and that
really takes a long time. But that's another bug.

We have a work around for this issue which is as follows:
Copy all the .dll files to the appropriate application folder:
From: C:\Program Files\Common Files\ACD Systems\EN
&
From: C:\Program Files\Common Files\ACD Systems\
To: C:\Program Files\ACD Systems\ACDSee\9.0\
There is no need to reboot, the program should open directly after the files
have been copied.

Changing graphics modes and trying stuff I stumbled on something that seems to
work. Using winecfg you can let the display manager handle the game, and set
the display manager to provide an 800x600 window.
This reached the opening menu, which is to say, it got past the point at which
the bug has previously appeared. I have yet to determine if this means it is
playable. respectfully

Seems like a regression in shdocvw. Assigning to Jacek. Also, winedbg isn't
very helpful either.

Created an attachment (id=3714)

tried similar environment on different hardware
This dump is from an IBM Thinkpad with 2GB ram running a 2+GHz P4 and ubuntu
6.06.
It uses an intel 810 chipset while the previous one was a geForce.
It displays slightly differently than the previous one, but occurs in the same
place in the installation sequence and looks like the same thing on the
surface.
The ddraw prelude to the crash seems instructive.
Was there something about limiting the use of the ddraw 9 instructions?
Anyway, still not working.

I tried setting virtual desktop mode in winecfg, didn't seem
to change anything. But I can see there might be some fighting
between the app and the window manager - the taskbar pops
up after a second. Well, I'm no expert, either, guess we'll just
have to wait for someone who knows these issues to have a look.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible if the window manager is controlling the
windows, something like the splash keeps being redrawn over the
messagebox/window trying to pop up. I think it's possible for a window to not
show up in the taskbar for some reason or other, but then again, I'm not an
expert on this area, thus the "sounds like." The symptoms are similar to other
bug reports where that is a problem, so I thought I'd share. I think running
the installer in virtual mode will help. If no window pops up, then this is
probably not the case.

That wouldn't explain the apparant constant repainting (if that's
what the repeating logfile section indicates), would it?
I did look for a hidden window using gnome's alt-tab; there
didn't seem to be any.
