How can you "get this bug" when you're not even running the same installer? The
installers from this bug have been verified fixed, so if you have an installer
that doesn't work, open a new bug.

I don't know if bink would work with the retail version, I've only tried the demo.
My system is Gentoo Linux (x86) running on an 1,8 GHz AMD Turion64, 1GB RAM with
wine-0.9.33, a GeForce Go 7300 (64MB built-in + 192MB shared memory) with the
latest drivers (9755). Nothing out of the ordinary actually.
Have you tried if bink works with other games?

This is an issue in Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium wars. I read somewhere that
wine currently does not support 32 bit cursors which if so is probably the issue
going on here. I do not know enough about wine's implementation of wine's
implementation of .ani cursors to attempt a fix.

I had this issue too. The crashes seem to be at almost random points. Last time
I was able to do most the things in Seyda Neen (or whatever it is) without it
crashing.
If you're on nVidia then make sure you're at least using the 97XX drivers as the
lower ones seem to cause extra crashes.

I suggested that, but unfortunately the developers can't reproduce this issue as
far as I can tell. Actually if you have binfmt_misc setup properly on your
system, you can use the .lnk files. So IMHO, wine should just drop .desktop
icon creation and change the icon for the .lnk files.

Hello,
i took a quick glance at it...
That OLE error comes from IWebBrowser2::get_Busy() not implemented.
I "cheated" by pretending not busy ... it connected, loaded news.
One could take challenges, enter chatrooms and the like.
I didnt play at all - that exercise is left to you :)
--- snip dlls/shdocvw.c ---
static HRESULT WINAPI WebBrowser_get_Busy(IWebBrowser2 *iface, VARIANT_BOOL *pBool)
{
WebBrowser *This = WEBBROWSER_THIS(iface);
FIXME("(%p)->(%p)\n", This, pBool);
// this should be a data member from WebBrowser object
// e.g. *pBool = This->busy;
// for now: pretend being not busy
*pBool = VARIANT_FALSE;
return S_OK;
}
--- snip dlls/shdocvw.c ---
Just a warning: this worked in this case but of course this "hack" is dangerous
if lengthy operations are in progress and the clients program flow depends on
the "real" status.
Ideally this flag should be a data member (add some "VARIANT_BOOL busy;" to
WebBrowser object in shdocvw.h, see my code comment) and updated occordingly to
async/sync navigate operations.
E.g. when entering async operation (before navigate events are fired -> set
flag) and upon completion/abort of these (reset flag).
I guess isnt really patch-a-like...
Just use this it as quick workaround on this showstopper if you want to play
with this app further :)
Regards

commit 595d6aa6fbc8cd97d4fa8fa323b3f9bdddc32bd4
Author: Robert Reif <reif(a)earthlink.net>
Date: Fri Aug 18 01:13:31 2006 -0400
dsound: Class factory cleanup.
Consolidate all class factories into a single implementation.
Fixes a problem discovered by oleview.
I've tested the full version and a demo version. Both worked before the commit
posted above and then broke.

> Unfortunately, the registry error appeared again...
It is not unfortunately, it is great! We can conclude:
"MS winword checks the location where it lives".
wine .wine/drive_c/Programme/Microsoft\ Office/Office/WINWORD.EXE resolves to
application as "z:\home\......." and winword feels uneasy.
Just not to confuse office we should not start it with path which can be
resolved except "c:\program files\office\office\"
It is not bug nor feature of wine concerning MS style path, it is feature of
Microsoft.

The patch looks good. Please send to wine-patches with the removed "else" case
for the failing TranslateCharsetInfo() call. Instead just print a FIXME, since
TranslateCharsetInfo() is not really supposed to fail, and that else just adds
a lot of code for nothing.

Direct download is
http://www6.spcs.se/downloads/demo/SPCSAdministration_4_31_Demo.exe
The installer now seems to complete ok, though the
installer process doesn't exit (which is a bug,
but at least it doesn't hurt too badly, as the
workaround is to just ignore it or kill it).
The app does crash when you start it unless
you have told Wine to pretend that ie6 is installed.
(Easiest way to do that is
$ wget kegel.com/wine/winetricks
$ sh winetricks fakeie6
)
I don't know enough about the app to tell if it's working right, though.
Can you try wine-0.9.33 and see if it works for you?

Summary: VobBlanker: Hangs when X-11 closes child window.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: PC
URL: http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: austinenglish(a)gmail.com
Setup:
Ubuntu Feisty (Tested under Kubuntu, Ubuntu and Xubuntu)
Wine 0.9.9
VobBlanker 2.1.2.0
When using VobBlanker, if the preview/cut feature is used, Wine will open the
preview/cut pane, allow the selection of cell points to cut/keep, etc. Once 'ok'
or 'close' is pressed to bring the user back to the parent window, the
application hangs and it is not possible to return to the parent window.
Right-clicking on task bar and close no longer works/alt+tab doesn't work, etc.
Only using the console to kill the application will close the app.
To reproduce:
Install Wine.
wget http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/VobBlanker/VobBlanker_2120_exe.zip
unzip VobBlanker_2120_exe.zip
wine VobBlanker.exe
Open up a set of DVD Vob files.
Select any cell, then press preview/cut.
Make your selections, click on 'ok' or 'close'.
See if you can return to the parent window.

Worms Armageddon's options screen has a button for setting the in-game
resolution. As of Wine 0.9.33, this button appears to be functional, but it does
not cause in-game resolution to change, and the setting appears to revert when
returning to the options screen. In Wine 0.9.31, it works fine.
The game stores this setting in the registry as:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\WormsArmageddon\Options\DisplaySize
(DWORD - 0 for 640x480, 1 for 800x600, 2 for 1024x768, 3 for anything else)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\WormsArmageddon\Options\DisplayXSize
(DWORD)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team17SoftwareLTD\WormsArmageddon\Options\DisplayYSize
(DWORD)
As of 0.9.33, it reads this setting from the registry but does not write it.

I don't think this bug is about the runtime installer, according to the summary
and the original reporter's comments. The reports somehow morphed into what it
is now. We need to keep the original report alive, as we still can't load
msvcr80.dll even if it is installed correctly. A new bug needs to be opened for
the runtime installer.

I got this problem with commercial application (no download) but I was able
to create simple application (I will attach it) that behaves in the same way.
It displays russian text in a window. In Windows XP I got the same results
when using TextOutA and DrawTextA (to get 'A' variants I compile with
UNICODE undefined under Dev-C++). In Wine TextOutA displays the text
but with DrawTextA I get glyphs from wrong code page.
I tried to locate the source of the problem and I found that
DrawTextExA function in dlls/user32/text.c always uses CP_ACP for
multibyte to unicode conversion while TextOutA gets the codepage
from GetTextCharset(hdc).

OK We are both running current wine. My GPU is an NVidia GeForce4 MX Integrated
GPU. I am using the dummy nvidia drivers from xorg.
When I run the demo in fullscreen I get an error message
AVP2 Error: Couldn't set D3D Emulation mode. Shutting down AVP2...
When I run it in a desktop I get white "cutouts" for some graphics. ie when you
select "Marine, Predator, Alien" the pictures of each are just white cutouts.
Changing component.
I am pretty sure that the the reason that it crashes for you and not for me is
the difference in the drivers.

I've searched c:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared, and found:
- ac1st16.dll
- acdb16.dll
- acge16.dll
- acdb16enures.xmx, and many other files
So, apparently the files are installed, but invisible to the app (these are only
visible if copied to c:\Program Files\aclt, the installation directory).
gdiplus.dll is nowhere to be found if the app is installed in WinXP mode, but it
is not an issue, since it is installed in Win 2000 mode.
I guess the bug status should be changed to INVALID (and a comment added to the
bug 7700, concerning application launch errors) ?

Summary: VB 3.0: Installation fails
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.33.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine.bug.fr.200703(a)edavies.nildram.co.uk
Installation of VB 3.0 from floppy disk fails, first with a message about the
Windows directory being on another drive then a very uninformative message
saying "Setup could not be completed due to system errors".
With the first VB 3.0 Pro floppy mounted as either /media/fd then running "wine
/media/fd/setup.exe" or mounted as .wine/drive_c/install/ then running as "wine
C:\\install\\Setup.exe" (as suggested by Declan Moriarty on 19th of March in the
Wine Users list installation at first proceeds normally with the suggestion of
installation in the C:\VB directory and confirmation that it should be created.
The a dialog box is displayed saying:
> Setup needs to install some files in your
> Windows directory. This directory is on a
> drive other than the one where you want to
> install Visual Basic.
>
> If you choose Custom installation on the
> next screen, Setup will show you the
> space required on each of these drives.
This is strange because this is a clean Win 0.9.33 installation with only the C:
(and Z:) drives mapped.
Carrying on, the Installation Options dialog gives the choice of Complete
Installation or Custom Installation. Choosing Complete goes via an Install ODBC
Drivers dialog to a failure, Custom goes straight to the failure. The failure
dialog box is not very helpful:
> Setup could not complete due to system
> errors.
>
> Please clear up the cause of errors and try
> again. To install VB properly, please run setup
> again.
I have previously run a relatively large VB 3.0 application OK under a previous
Wine installation which exhibitted this problem.
In trying to diagnose this problem I wrote a little C test program to display
the results of GetWindowsDirectory and GetSystemDirectory. The results it
produced seemed to me like they might be related to this problem but rather than
add speculation here I've submitted them separately: Bug #7853.
I've looked at some WINEDEBUG output for running this program. It wasn't very
informative to me but I'll take a fresh log and attach it here.

Version: 0.9.33.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine.bug.fr.200703(a)edavies.nildram.co.uk
I'm having problems installing VB 3.0 under Wine. To try to diagnose the
problem I wrote a short test program in MSVC 1.52 (16-bit C) to display the
results of GetWindowsDirectory and GetSystemDirectory. I ran this under Windows
XP and Wine under Linux and got different results:
Windows XP:
GetWindowsDirectory = C:\WINDOWS
GetSystemDirectory = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Wine:
GetWindowsDirectory = c:\windows
GetSystemDirectory = c:\windows\system32
The differences are the case of the names returned (particularly the drive
letter which I has a suspicion is tripping up the VB 3.0 installation) and also
the response of the 32-bit directory name for GetSystemDirectory.
I noticed this problem on previous versions of Wine. Instead of accepting the
default Ubuntu upgrade to 0.9.33 I uninstalled Wine (including configuration
information) and did a clean install of 0.9.33 for these tests.
Once I've committed this report I'll attempt to attach a tar.gz of the source
and executable of the test program.

The patch looks fine. However it would be nice and should be easy to add a test
case to dlls/version/tests to make sure that Windows rejects truncated keys. You
could also test if it's only the last keys in the path that can't be truncated.
If that for all of them then replacing the condition with a simpler one:
if ( !strncasecmp( child->szKey, szKey, cbKey ) )
if ( szKey[cbKey] == 0 || szKey[cbKey] == '\\' )
return child;
should work. When you have this all I'd also recomend to send it to wine-patches.

can you supply the msi setup log (as text attachment)?
It resides somewhere in "temp" directory (e.g. ../windows/temp).
Just make sure you clean out everything before install and then search for log
files created by setup.
I was working on same target a while ago.
Just wondering on any progress regarding "invalid msi table size" issue.

Hmm. Setting winver to winxp gets around most
installer problems, but there's one left:
near the end, a dialog pops up saying it
couldn't set up the data source hoai_access.
This happens whether or not I set the registry
to override odbc32 and odbccp32 before starting the install.
And when it starts up, it still says
"Lizenzdatenbank nicht vorhanden!".
So I guess something's still missing...

some addendum...
Apply *exact* key comparison only at last child/node level or child walk wont work.
Sample code how this could be accomplished...
---- snip dlls/version/info.c ---
static VS_VERSION_INFO_STRUCT32 *VersionInfo32_FindChild(
VS_VERSION_INFO_STRUCT32 *info, LPCWSTR szKey, UINT cbKey )
{
VS_VERSION_INFO_STRUCT32 *child = VersionInfo32_Children( info );
BOOL lastChildLevel = (strchrW( szKey, '\\') == NULL);
while ((char *)child < (char *)info + info->wLength )
{
if( lastChildLevel)
{
if( !strcmpiW( child->szKey, szKey))
return child;
}
else if( !strncmpiW( child->szKey, szKey, cbKey))
return child;
child = VersionInfo32_Next( child );
}
return NULL;
}
---- snip dlls/version/info.c ---
The code changes seem to work with this app.
At least it starts now and shows main window.
For other issues feel free to post...

Hello,
good one :)
--- snip ---
0012:Call version.VerQueryValueA(001989c0,612af0e0
"\\StringFileInfo\\040904b0\\Internal",0034ef48,0034ef4c) ret=612a943e
..
0012:Call kernel32.WideCharToMultiByte(00000000,00000000,00198b54
L"ALBUM",ffffffff,001999b0,00000cc4,00000000,00000000) ret=6076b5d8
--- snip ---
In short: it reads a value from PE resource where it shouldnt.
There is a "helper" dll (u32cfg.dll) which implements its own kind of
"GetModuleInfo" by reading version resource and parsing the all stuff.
Ulead packs lots of non-standard stuff in its PE version resource.
I left only interesting part:
--- snip version resource ---
PRODUCTVERSION 3,0,0,0
FILEOS 0x4
FILETYPE 0x1
{
BLOCK "StringFileInfo"
{
BLOCK "040904b0"
{
.....
VALUE "InternalName", "ALBUM"
.....
VALUE "Section", "Album 12"
}
}
BLOCK "VarFileInfo"
{
VALUE "Translation", 0x0409 0x04B0
}
}
--- snip version resource ---
The problem lies in wine's VersionInfo32_QueryValue() ->
VersionInfo32_FindChild() -> strncmpiw() when a subblock key is supplied that
matches a *part* of resource key.
Now what happens ... due to partial string match of "Internal" ->
"InternalName", the value "ALBUM" is returned.
"Internal" has a special meaning to ulead software: the helper dll expects some
kind of GUID "{xxxx}" when parsing the value for this key.
It doesnt meet the expected format -> error msgbox.
So the fix would be using *exact* string match in VersionInfo32_FindChild().
This is cleanly a wine bug, yes.
---
BTW ... someone could add 2-byte opcode 0xFF,0x15,<addr32> (call dword ptr) insn
to the wine debugger ("programs/winedbg/be_i386.c:be_i386_is_func_call()")
After using attach i encountered lots of this stuff in debuggee (uses calls to
IAT, e.g. call dword ptr ds:[some_iat_entry])...
Makes it somewhat harder debug if call destinations (dll imports) are not
recognized correctly.
Regards

The offending line (9173) in lex.yy.c is:

which looks OK to me.
Help?
In the meantime, I also found the oldest deb I can locate, namely for 0.9.3, in
which this is also broken. Is there an archive of old (2004-2005 era) wine
binary packages anywhere?
Thanks for your help,
Richard

Again, thank you very much for your help and kind replies. I would like to appy

I think that, to apply the patch, I need to compile Wine from source? Could you
tell me exactly how to apply the patch? I succeeded in compiling Wine 0.9.33
(the current stable version) from source and I did a "make clean".
P.S. I'll be kind of busy with work and familiy business the next few days or

Also, on line 128 you need a '$' before 'WINE'.

Summary: Broken mouse movement in No Man's Land

Somewhere between Wine 0.9.27 and 0.9.28, the mouse movement in No Man's Land
became broken. When moving the mouse, it will usually jump to one of the
edges of the screen instead of moving the appropriate distance. Note that
mouse movement does not currently work at all for this game, due to a
regression between 0.9.28 and 0.9.29 (bug #7832).

cursor moves back to its previous position unless you move the mouse really
fast. I will open another bug report for that problem.

Summary: Hang upon exiting Oblivion
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.33.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: anthonyhaslam(a)btinternet.com
Using this guide to play Oblivion: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Linux
I experience regular hangs when exiting the game. It happens about 90% of the
time & requires several attempts at killing Oblivion.exe.
This seems to be the relevant part of the output:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x0000000c at address 0xb7d918d2
(thread 0010), starting debugger...
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7efecfa4 "loader.c:
loader_section" wait timed out in thread 0015, blocked by 0010, retrying (60 sec)
This is also apparent in Wine 0.9.32. I use Zenwalk 4.4 & have also tried it on
Sabayon 3.3 with the same result.
If you need more info I'll gladly provide it, though it'll have to be next week
as I'm going abroad this afternoon.

Unfortunately, the registry error appeared again...

The demo still fails here.
First run on a fresh .wine seems to result in a error while installing some
Installshield stuff.
On second run I get:
err:msi:load_media_info Failed to extract cabinet stream
err:msi:ready_media Unable to load media info
err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles Failed to ready media
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"InstallFinalize" returned 1627

Hi, a user submitted garbage test results for this , so i gave it a try. It pops
up a messagebox that no version info could be read from a file called Album.dat,
and then it just exits. With native version.dll it starts fine.

No crash still occurs at the same location and still works fine with +all. Did
you use the exact same version? This might also be a bit non-deterministic
because of threading.

Yes that should work with native msxml3 and thus is a problem in our builtin
version.

You should use the latest Wine. Try if rerunning wineprefixcreate does help if
not, does this still happen with a fresh .wine (move or delete the old one)?

The game tries width=800 height=600 bpp=16 and how I read the code it should not
fail. Then the game tries width=16 height=16 bpp=32 which is obviously not a
correct resolution. But recently there were some changes regarding mode change,
can you retest with at least Wine 0.9.32 and attach a log with
WINEDEBUG=+x11settings,+xrandr if it fails. And also please test with virtual
desktop setting and if that doesn't help either with X set to depth 16.

This bug also seems to happen with other units & buildings on different zoom
levels. However, it only seems to happen when there is only one unit/building
in the view. If see something exhibiting the bug, and then order another unit
to step into the view, the bug is gone the moment the other unit is visible.
