I think that's another problem. The Worms Forts demo I've got here works with
wine 0.9.19, I think you have a newer one. The one I have crashes when you try
to quit, though (it freezes for a minute or so). So I think we've actually got
more than one bug here.
I'll do regression testing of the retail Worms3D tonight (as Lei asked for).
Btw, I once had a demo of Worms3D which also crashed (I'll see if I still have
it somewhere), however I found another one that worked great (up to 0.9.19).
There seem to be alot of issues here, so I think it may be best to concentrate
on the retail Worms3D for now and see if/how the the other versions are affected.

i'm currently trying to regression test "Worms Forts: Under Siege", but it's
giving me quite some headaches.
To compile back to wine-20050524 i had to:
add # define CLK_TCK CLOCKS_PER_SEC to /usr/include/time.h
remove my freetype-devel.i386 package
add following to LDFLAGS:
export LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS -Wl --hash-style=sysv"
Let's see if i can get anywhere, sigh

Hmm. I updated to git (which seems to have your patches already).
When I install now, I still get the "Unable to open active database" dialog.
Maybe I got it before, too, but didn't notice.
And now the app actually crashes during startup (instead of hanging).
The crash is in... xerces. Doesn't look like Wine code at all, judging
by the stack. I'll attach the +ole log.

to install well enough now, but when I run the tb2pro executable, I get the
following dialog:
Unable to initiate a TCP/IP connection.
- Maybe the TCP/IP protocol has not been installed?
- Maybe the network was not initiated?
- Maybe the winsock.dll was not installed, not found, or not the correct version?
I tried copying the winsock.dll file from a WIndows XP install into the SYSTEM32

I'll attach all output from the terminal in case it helps.

able to go online and join a server and play just fine. But once the e-mail

The winecfg this is easilly answered: There is no winecfg option and there
will never be one. The DirectDraw renderer should be opengl by default, and
autodetected to fall back to gdi if no opengl libs are available, or only
uppon direct request.
The issue that DDraw fails to load completely without opengl is because the
DDraw software renderer is built into wined3d.dll and wined3d.dll is
dynamically linked(at load time) to libGL.so. Having the sw renderer in
wined3d allows us to use it as a fallback if Direct3D blitting
operations(StretchRect, CopyRects) are not supported by the opengl code.
What needs to be done to make DDraw work without gl is to replace the dynamic
load-time linking with lazy linking. The last time this was discussed the idea
was to link wined3d (dynamically) to out opengl32.dll(or native opengl32.dll
on windows). OpenGL32.dll does the lazy linking against libGL.so. For
initialization opengl calls our display driver, winex11.drv or winequartz.drv
which does the platform dependent initialization. Platform independent calls
go from opengl32.dll to libGL.so.
I dislike that idea because I do not think it is good to put abstraction layer
above abstraction layer above abstraction layer in performance critical things
like 3D graphics. In the worst case we have
d3d9->wined3d->opengl32->winex11->libGL.so
Also, if I understand the linking concept correctly, dynamic load time linking
results in faster calls than lazy linking. Thus if we take even the simplest
approach and implement lazy linking in wined3d, this will result in decreased
Direct3D performance. It would be a minor decrease, but still a decrease.
Honestly I think that there are more Direct3D users than users who use
DirectDraw on a non-opengl display. I think Gentoo is the only distro that
offers a way to compile wine without opengl, except manual compiling with
fidling with configure params. Keep in mind that you do not need a 3d
accelerator. The Mesa3D software renderer is perfectly enough, and it maybe
even gives faster performance than our software ddraw renderer.
If you want to implement lazy linking to libGL.so the first step would be a
discussion of the approach on wine-devel. My personal preference would be not
to implement lazy linking and close this bug as invalid, or wait for a general
opengl loading cleanup which moves wined3d over to wgl(opengl32.dll), which we
will need if we want to use our (future) Direct3D10 implementation on windows
xp(and thus close the bug as later).

Tomb Raider 2 has the same problem. It gives the well-known "TR2 doesn't find
DirectX 5 or greater installed" message, so on the surface it looks like bug
4387. However, in this case TR2 is actually right :-) wine's DX isn't coming on
because the openGL test fails and it doesn't "fallback" to software.

native xp strace of app
Hello,
interesting app - from reversers point of view :).
Lots of anti debugging tricks which make this stuff a pain to debug (even more
with half working ollydbg on wine)
The stack exception overflow is on purpose (e.g. recusive calling) probably to
hide the real cause (and to misguide any debugger).
I did a system level strace on *native* windows xp.
Nothing suspicious (taking the anti-debugging countermeasures into account).
You can "synchronize" the native windows strace and wine trace by searching

I was about to confirm that bug with 0.9.31, when I decided to give current git
a try. It works for me in current git. That is it starts and I can use the menu.
It still blows up on me when trying to start a game. I still suspect a sound
issue, though. And there's lots of stuff on the winsock debug channel.. But that
might be worth a new bug.

This looks like a vb6 app. Does using native dcom help? Easiest way to try is
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks dcom98
then rerun your app. If this helps, we know the bug is in our OLE/COM
implementation.

Doesn't look like a comctl bug offhand, changing category to misc.
Adding keyword 'download'.

And exactly how are you running the installer?
If the cd-rom is the current directory, you'll have trouble ejecting.

------- Additional Comments From J.Nicolaisen(a)gmx.net 2007-21-03 12:16 -------
Just installed wine 0.9.31 to my Gentoo system. The opengl USE flag is unset, so
wine was compiled without OpenGL support.
I opened Regedit and set
HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D/DirectDrawRenderer = gdi (still no winecfg option?)
Upon starting vanilla Starcraft, I get this error:
err:ddraw:DDRAW_Create Couldn't load WineD3D - OpenGL libs not present?
>From Starcraft I get a neat little message to the extent of, "Starcraft couldn't
initialize your graphics card with DirectDraw. Make sure you have DirectDraw 5
or later installed etc. etc."
>From earlier dev comments in this bug I got the impression that Wine should
automatically fallback to the "old behaviour" if the OpenGL capabilities check
returns negative?
It doesn't do that, and just exits instead (same behaviour with and without the
registry key.)
Expected behaviour:
1) Compiling with OpenGL support should be optional
2) wine should fall back to plain X rendering if no OpenGL available (ie if the
check returns negative.)
I can check with Baldur's Gate too, if you want.
Stefan, I'm willing to help; tell me what you need.

Summary: Photomatix 2.4 crashes if user tries to calculate the
average between pictures
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.33.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: christianuceda(a)yahoo.com
Introduction: photomatix is a very nice little tool (albeit a bit ugly) to
combine different exposed pictures to generate HDR images. The HDR generation
and tone mapping functions works wery well (and fast!) in wine. However the the
Average functions do not work and make the app crash.
I'm using ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) and Wine 0.9.33
To install and run the program:
rm -fr /home/user/.wine
wineprefixcreate
wget http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/184124-U1PR/PhotomatixPro24.exe
wine Photomatix240.exe
Complete installation using all the default settings, basicaly click next until
you reach the end
To reproduce the crashes:
1)Click on File->open, go to the program's samples folder: c:\Program
files\Photomatix\samples and open the folder named 3bracketedimages folder,
inside this folder there are three jpg files from the same scene with different
exposures. Open them all, click on the first file and then holding the shift
key click on the last image, then click open.
2)Click on any of the newly open image windows, and then click on the Combine
menu and select the Average option.
At this point the app crashes (Screenshot 1) displaying a small dialog that
says: Run-time error '13': Type mismatch, if you click ok the app terminates
and the following message is printed on my terminal:
fixme:ole:OLEPictureImpl_FindConnectionPoint no connection point for {33ad4ed2-
6699-11cf-b70c-00aa0060d393}
fixme:ole:OLEPictureImpl_FindConnectionPoint no connection point for {33ad4ed2-

fixme:ole:OLEPictureImpl_FindConnectionPoint no connection point for {33ad4ed2-

wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0xb134b10f at address 0x20b0fc
(thread 0011), starting debugger...
Under the Combine menu all the different average options crashes in a
different and weird way opening more or less error windows, and then output
things like:
err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 168 bytes in thread 0017 eip b7e3a5ce
esp 00230f58 stack 0x231000-0x34

Summary: Photomatix 2.4 crashes when copying/pasting license
information

ReportedBy: christianuceda(a)yahoo.com
Introduction: photomatix is a very nice little tool (albeit a bit ugly) to
combine different exposed pictures to generate HDR images. Overall the GUI
works perfectly under wine. The app's GUI looks a bit odd but that is the way
it looks like in windows too. There is one serious bug with the GUI, when you
try to copy or paste your license details, wine crashes.
I'm using ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) and Wine 0.9.33
To reproduce the problem:
rm -fr /home/user/.wine
wineprefixcreate
wget http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/184124-U1PR/PhotomatixPro24.exe
wine Photomatix240.exe
Complete installation using all the default settings, basicaly click next until
you reach the end
Once you launch Photomatix you will be presented with a window with three
buttons, register, continue trial order license key, we are interested on
the Register... button, click on it and a new window will appear on screen,
in this window you can type your license details, if you type the details by
hand everything works as expected, but if you try to copy or paste into any of
the text fields, wine crashes.

What version of Wine are you using (I mean more specific than 'current')? Why
do you say you can't install from the second CD? What happens? I've personally
installed Call of Duty several times successfully.
