It's a regression.
It used to work: as of (somewhere between 0.9.25 and 0.9.28; I haven't located
the exact commit yet) it stopped working.
Perhaps it isn't a dinput bug. What responds to games messages to reset pointer
position?

Ok, found an interesting thing. The "only appears in the top quarter" is only
present if using virtual desktop mode and the "screen is entirely blank on the

Summary: dsound buffer underruns on campaign/mission start videos
in C&C Generals
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.32.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jasmin.1023(a)yahoo.com
problems with direct-sound, regardless of whether alsa or oss is used and with
any hardware acceleration/driver emulation options. After I put my Config.ini in
"~/Command & Conquer Generals Data", i can start the game. Solo Play -> Skirmish
always works, but..
Most of the mission start videos.. trying Solo Play -> GLA always crashes as
soon as first mission video starts. also, if you clicked China, first mission
video works, but after the initial video of 2nd mission, it crashes at or after
the "destroy the convention part".. The errors in both scenarios are related to
DSOUND and problems with buffer underrun detection. I have it running up to
1600x1200.. i run it at "low" in video quality settings. it runs fine when set
to "high" even at that resolution, but it gets slower almost as cedega at "low"
also i've noticed when playing a big skirmish game (I + 7 armies on a 8 player
map), things start getting slower 15 minutes into the game or so, and then the
buffer underrun errors start scrolling again in the terminal in the back, though
the game continues to run for hours even.
while playing skirmish:
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne underrun on sound buffer 0x7084f28

fixme:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne problem with underrun detection (mixlen=28536 <

the above errors always show while playing around in the game (in skirmish for
example)
But these are the errors that show when the campaign videos lockup the game,
scrolls really fast in the terminal using up 99.9% cpu:

The problem is likely to happen because of the spash screen of the application,
but not completely sure.
What we see on startup is the splash screen window, that then becomes blank and
then the application crashes instead of being launched properly.
On an X.org 6.8.2 server, the splash screen also becomes blank, but the app is
launched properly.
Note that if you launch the application using a SSH on which the server uses a
X.org 6.8.2 server and the client uses a X.org 7.x server, the application is
displayed fine on the client.
The contrary leads to a crash.

Under Ubuntu Breezy Badger, with Wine 0.9.x, the application "Le Petit Robert"
worked fine. Breezy Badger uses X.org 6.8.2.
When upgrading to Ubuntu Dapper Drake, and now on Edgy, which both use an X.org
7.x server, the application does not work properly, and crashes at startup.
The problem does not come from the Wine version, since the first times I got the
error the versions of Wine I had on Breezy and on Dapper/Edgy were the same.
(0.9.20 or something like that.)
The first lines of the error log are the following :

In 0.9.31, Halo worked better than ever. In 0.9.32, I get a black screen
whenever I'm allowed to move (in-game). I mean, cut scenes work fine, but that
moment the cut scene finishes, the screen goes black. However, stuff like text
or the menu after pressing ESC still get displayed (on top of the blackness)
I compared logs of 0.9.31 and 0.9.32 and I've found this
fixme:d3d:clipplane >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 0x500 from glClipPlane @ state.c / 2071
err:d3d_shader:shader_get_registers_used No texture bound to sampler 2
Those 2 errors appear in the 0.9.32 log, but not in the 0.9.31 one.
If more information is needed, I would be glad to provide it.

- modern skins do not show
- Dro's JTFE plugin doesn't work
- dragging winamp windows and even file manager windows caused winamp to
stutter. At least for my setup.
- Crackling: Doesn't happen if you use the wave_out plugin and increase the buffer
- AVS works fine, just Fullscreen mode doesn't work
- Issues when minimizing winamp

Normally games with mouse input recentre the mouse on the display every time you
make an input movement.
As of (between 0.9.25 and 0.9.28) AvP doesn't do this: as you look round the
mouse pointer keeps moving and eventually leaves the window. Affects both
fullscreen and 'Emulate Virtual Desktop' modes.
Will try to find the commit (zzzz)

The Weapon menu in Nexus 1.01 is only black so that you can't see any Weapons or
items and you see in the left bottom corner a picture of your ship but because
of this picture you can't see your other ships.

Also note that I was using 0.9.32 to test with (git as of yesterday) And if you
search wine-devel archives you'll find a note from someone also having this
problem.

Summary: Grim Fandango sets wrong screen size and crashes if X
24bpp
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.30.
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.lucasarts.com/products/grim/
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: a.hurst(a)shef.ac.uk
Starting Grim Fandango (in fullscreen mode) with X display depth at 24bpp, sets
the wrong screen mode [ 320x200 instead of the intro video's 640x480 ] and then
crashes.
If X is started with 16bpp display depth this bug does not occur.
If 'Enable Virtual Desktop' is set in winecfg this bug does not occur.
This supercedes bug 6269

I just did some testing; if I revert this patch, the game doesn't crash (but it
doesn't load either, which is a separate problem.) Tried running it in a
desktop, and it still crashes. I'm using an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro on X.org 7.1
with fglrx drivers version 8.34.8.
