Please make sure you are using latest Wine, (re)move ~/.wine directory and reinstall IL2. Also test it with "virtual desktop" to see if you get the same behavior. The first hurdle is that setup.exe exits silently if it thinks MSIE4 isn't installed. winetricks fakeie6 takes care of that. A cosmetic glitch is that the cursor turns to crap when you click 'install'. I'm going to ignore that for now, but it's bad enough to distract real users. The second hurdle is that it tries to install mdac 2.8, and fails. Running winetricks mdac28 twice, and then the app's installer twice, takes care of that. (See bug 5428; mdac 2.8 fails the first time through.) The next hurdle is that it tries to install dotnet 1.1. (See bug 5358.) This fails with great gusto.
