Basically you bring up the save menu and save and you may see your other save games, but then in future when you bring it back up the entire save list may be empty. The problem is it also shows up as being empty when you try and load a game too which means you can't actually load a game at all. The problem is, after the initial save (which seems to cause this issue) you can tell it to save and it says it does, but looking in the Saves folder from Linux shows that it's not created any more saves. So in summary, you can save ONCE. Campaign loading screen appears, but as soon as it would probably go on to the next screen (I can't tell what it's doing, but based on load time I'd say it's about to finish doing pre-loading and open the main campaign window) it crashes with the same output as previously.
