I suppose that since _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW is not garanteed to succeed one has to check if it did. I tried to trace this down and made a few corrections while at it (attached), but I couldn't figure out where did this loop start and run out of time. I can change it to a ReadFile if it will make you happier but I do not believe its an essential. There is only a small problem left: if QueryServiceStatusEx() caller really need service process id, it should be saved upon service_start_process() (maybe in service_data) and returned later. Though the process id issue requires very little SCM related changes i leave this exercise to SCM/advapi subsystem maintainer :) With that, the tool works as expected (returning real service status).
