I did some more experiments. TomTom does rely on the new volume to be added on the fly. After detecting a removable drive *by drive letter* it checks each volume for its drive type *by volume id* and expects to find a removable drive again. With attached hack TomTom proceeds to call QueryDosDevice on each removable drive, by volume id, which currently also fails on Wine.
