Summary: XFCE specific systray problems
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.43.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vladimiroski(a)gmail.com
I'm testing some applications in Xubuntu 7.04 with Wine 0.43 from repositories,
I tested three programs of my interest: eMule Plus, Online Sig and XMR.
Of these, just XMR (a VB6.0 program) was able to place the icon in the systray
in a successful way, the others (ePlus and Online Sig) were not able to do it.
I tested the same programas in Kubuntu and it was fine, so I assume it's
something with XFCE (tested with version XFCE 4.4)
I guess if this is normal (XFCE already not full supported by design?) or this
is a bug, so I open this bug so you decide.
Online Sig is in Application DB:

When running in full screen mode and using managed windows, if I alt-tab away

as normal, however there is no Half Life 2 in my taskbar or alt-tab programs.
The steam windows appear to be functioning normally, and I can return to them.
I'm a bit perplexed, as I can't even figure out a workaround at this point

This is a different one.
When installing The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, when the
installer gets to choose components the check box's are not visible, but you
can get them to become visible.
1. Remove your .wine dir
2. cd in to the install dir and wine setup.exe (wine will make its dir stuff
see log1)
3. The installer loads up fine and the check boxes are visible and you can
start installing the game but because you have not setup you cdrom drive in
winecfg you carn't use wine eject so you are unable to continue with the
install. (see pic one)
4. Run winecfg and map you cdrom drive
5. Run the setup agane and now the check boxes are no longer visible. (see pic
two and log2)
Because now the check boxes are no longer visible the installer wont install
anything and tells you that the install is complete.
Thanks guys

Renegade FDS server.ini
The Renegade Free Dedicated Server is a program that enables the hosting of a
C&C Renegade server. When launched, it should start a separate console, change
color, and display text, while reading in input which is interpreted as
commands. When running the Renegade FDS under Wine via wineconsole
--backend=user server.dat, a separate console is launched, but the color does
not change, and no text is outputted. No output in the terminal where the
wineconsole command was invoked is present. To install the FDS, download the
installer, and when prompted for user/password/serial, the user/password can be
made up, and the serial can be made up, but must start with 0669. Use this
particular server.ini, which should be placed in the installation directory's
Server directory, for testing purposes. The actual binary that launches the
server is server.dat, in the Server directory.

It appears that running ./tools/wineinstall (the recommended install method for
source installs) adds "/usr/local/lib" to /etc/ld.so.conf
As I understand it, this is not a proper default and should be avoided.
Personally, I've grappled for a week with a bug from dual python installation
(stock /usr/ and custom /usr/local/) where stock python would attempt to
dynamically load /usr/local/lib/libpython2.5.so.1.0 - this caused a lot of
errors with system programs/etc.
Tracing the source of the bad entry in /etc/ld.so.conf led me to wine
installer.

I just played the game Syberia 2.
It went quite alright apart from a strange behavior at one moment :
when in the monastery, clicking on the bellows of the candle machine, the game
almost freezes. I mean, it seems all frozen, but when you wait long enough, you
see your cursor coming back. Then you are still able to move and make actions,
but it's very, very, very slow.
At the end, when you click to open the little box with the candle, everything
start to work alright again.
That's the only one problem I had with this game.
Ubuntu Feisty 7.10, official distrib Wine version (0.9.46) and official CD's of
Syberia 2.
Thanks for your job.

where Cinema 4D R8.2 will run. Maxon's Cinema 4D R8.0 & R8.2 both completely
fail to run. When attempting to run all that happens is an error report in
terminal and nothing else. I'm using Ubuntu 7.04, the official nVidia drivers,
and Wine 0.9.49. Also changing Windows versions in the Applications settings of
the Wine Configuration for Cinema 4D has no effect on it. I'm not much good
with this stuff but I'd love so see if you can achieve full Windows
compatibility so I'm reporting this in hopes the data will be found to be
useful. Thank you for this amazing Wine software.

run. I guess that the problem is something by the way with Wine handle database
access.
If someone could help, I'll be very thankful..

Summary: Buggy YeahWrite regression under Wine 0.9.47
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.47.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-gdiplus
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lamented_apparition(a)yahoo.com.ph
Distro: Mint Celena/Gnome
Tested YeahWrite 1.7 on 0.9.47 and it resulted into corrupt characters. Also,
previous version bugs are still present.
Tested YeahWrite on 0.9.41 (installed from Synaptic) and 0.9.46 and characters
overlap seemingly creating random characters.
Could also be that the previous deleted character is occupying the space of the
blank space afterwards.
Highlighting fixes the problem of the characters.
Another problem: Fonts except for the default don't format. Tested by trying to
turn text bold, italics and underline.
Problem is, Yeah Write on Wine can only turn the fonts into MS Sans Serif,
Courier, Small Fonts and System Fonts under Wine.
Installation - Tested through:
Running yeah write.exe downloaded from main site (yw32.exe)
Running yw.exe from portable flash drive
Running yw.exe from HD without installing from yw32.exe (Copy paste from
portable flash drive)
Ran under -
Win 3.1, Win98, WinXp, Win2000 settings
Also found similar bugs running AbiWord on Linux (installed from Synaptic, Not

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: andrej.andolsek(a)gmail.com
Hello guys!
If I run Bitvise Tunnelier (Tunnelier.exe, installer can be downloaded from
www.bitvise.com/download-area) in Wine 0.9.53 I get the following problem when
I try to login (establish a TCP/IP connection):
fixme:winsock:convert_af_w2u unhandled Windows address family -1
fixme:winsock:WSASocketW Unsupported socket family -1!
---
This is how Tunnelier calls WSASocketW():
WSASocketW(FROM_PROTOCOL_INFO, FROM_PROTOCOL_INFO, FROM_PROTOCOL_INFO,
&m_protocolInfo, 0, WSA_FLAG_OVERLAPPED);
and FROM_PROTOCOL_INFO has the value of -1.
If you check WSASocket() in MSDN -
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms742212(VS.85).aspx - the 3rd
paragraph of Remarks says the following:
If the lpProtocolInfo is not NULL, the socket will be bound to the provider
associated with the indicated WSAPROTOCOL_INFO structure. In this instance, the
application can supply the manifest constant FROM_PROTOCOL_INFO as the value
for any of af, type, or protocol parameters. This indicates that the
corresponding values from the indicated WSAPROTOCOL_INFO structure
(iAddressFamily, iSocketType, iProtocol) are to be assumed. In any case, the
values specified for af, type, and protocol are passed unmodified to the
transport-service provider.
So, in dlls/ws2_32/socket.c WSASocketW() something like the code following
needs to be added (taking into account that the trasport-service provider
requirements doesn't affect Wine):
if (lpProtocolInfo)
{
if (af == FROM_PROTOCOL_INFO)
af = lpProtocolInfo->iAddressFamily;
if (type == FROM_PROTOCOL_INFO)
type = lpProtocolInfo->iSocketType;
if (protocol == FROM_PROTOCOL_INFO)
protocol = lpProtocolInfo->iProtocol;
}
So you see, it's a show stopper with a very simple solution.
Keep up the good work!

My Logitech Cordless Rumblepad was working perfectly including force
feedback(with evdev driver) (wine 0.9.48,0.9.49) in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit
2 until wine 0.9.50 was relased. In 0.9.50 i have very strange deadzones(and
random resetting of axes like old function 'autofire :P'), with both input
handlers(/dev/input/js0 and /dev/input/event2). I was chmoding devices to make
sure, they are not used. I made regression test for "git bisect start
dlls/dinput" setting 0.9.49 as good, and 0.9.50 as bad.
"$ git bisect good
Bisecting: 0 revisions left to test after this
[1ed3a815edc0edca2c077a1a2795414fca187cf7] dinput: Fix dead zone handling"
Now all works perfectly.
---
Problem exist still in 0.9.52. Main problem is limited deadzone of left and
upper halfs of axes [steering right and breaking/riding backward works
perfectly]. Its hard to drive using joypad with limited deadzones, but much
more harder with non-symetrical deadzones. And theres also problem using
multiple axes in one time(often mowing one axes cause resetting(setting to 0)
other axe).
I think its related to:

And resolution of this bug was probably one big regression.

sPlan 6.0 with a newer version of Wine (like 0.9.51) works fine with every
part, as long as the parts don't contain curves. If they do, the program gives
me an error message that states that there's a "Ungültige
Gleitkommaoperation", which translates to "Invalid Floating Point operation"
Last working version is 0.9.36. Above that it gives me an unhandled exception.
Going higher in version (0.9.51) silences the console log, but gives me the
error box with Invalid Floating Point operation. The cause in all cases are
parts that contain curves.
If you want me to check any specifig debug channels, just name them.
There's a free demo that can be downloaded from the link given. To reproduce:
-install and start it
-use the drop-down menu in the upper left corner to choose e.g. Transformers (I
don't know if that's available in the demo, but every list that contains parts
with curves will do)
-select a part with curves and drag-'n'-drop it into the main screen
Now whenever your mouse hits that part you just dropped on the main screen, it
pops the dialog box. The software is unusable in this state.

Trivial patch to fix the problem
In its present state, wait_on() function implemented in ntdll/serial.c fails
more often then it should. This means that in some cases serial events are not
reported to the calling Windows program (even if in practice they could be)
leading to application malfunction.
The problem is in the sanity check:
if ((status = get_irq_info(fd, &commio->irq_info)) ||
(status = get_modem_status(fd, &commio->mstat)))
goto out_now;
which bails out and silently returns 0 if low-level Unix kernel driver for
serial device doesn't implement TIOCGICOUNT or TIOCMGET ioctl()s. This is, in
fact, intended behavior if the calling program wants to monitor events like
EV_BREAK, EV_ERR or EV_CTS and friends (otherwise, Wine will loop forever in
wait_for_event()) but is useless and even harmful if the event in interest is
EV_RXCHAR or EV_TXEMPTY. In latter case the check just prevents the program
from working correctly.
I've came across this bug when trying to make control software for AnyData CDMA
modems (EasyWirelessNet 1.00.xx) working. In Linux, those devices use "option"
driver, which lacks TIOCGICOUNT ioctl().
The trivial patch is attached. It's not against git clone of Wine so it is not
meant for applying directly.

ReportedBy: Zenitur(a)yandex.ru
Dear developpers! Thank you very much for great program!
Sorry, my English is dadly.
Usually I download precompilated wine for Ubuntu 7.10 AMD64, but 0.9.53 version
I wanted to compile using specially for Ubuntu 7.10 source.
sudo apt-get -b source wine
It was good! Because precompilated wine was compiled with old nvidia driver,
and my Morrowind game was with bad pixel-shadered water in Ubuntu with this.
Apt wants to delete nvidia-glx-new, because one of the dependences is
nvidia-glx-dev, not nvidia-glx-new-dev, but I forbid this. But error was with
nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-new. I see some bugs of the compilation! For
exsample, 5-10 input/output errors of bison, and in the end of compilation was
many nvidia-glx(-new) errors:
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: diversions involved - output may be incorrect
diversion by nvidia-glx to: /usr/X11R6/lib32/nvidia/libGL.so.1.xlibmesa
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: diversions involved - output may be incorrect
diversion by nvidia-glx to: /usr/X11R6/lib32/libGL.so.1.2
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: diversions involved - output may be incorrect
diversion by nvidia-glx to: /usr/lib32/nvidia/libGL.so.1.2.xlibmesa
and etc., because Ubuntu AMD64 haven't this files in lib32 directory!
nvidia-glx-new have really bug, because I see some lines in water then playing
Morrowind. I don't know, was it in older versions, because in older versions I
don't saw pixel shadered water. If I compile wine with old version of nvidia
driver, I don't see water again!
I installed my new wine. Then I type winecfg, he spoke:
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/zenitur/.wine'...
Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled.
wine: '/home/zenitur/.wine' created successfully.
Why?! May be, I have not some dependences? I install it all from
wine_0.9.53~winehq0~ubuntu~7.10-1.dsc. Installations of many programs was good,
but installation of program was in RAM after installation, I need restart. This
bug was only if I use not precompilated wine. But I can play Morrowind normally
in myself compilated wine!
New button "Control Panel" in audio said me in fixme error window: "Launching
audio control panel not implemented yet!". I don't saw this button in oldest
versions of Wine, and don't know, work this in normal compilation, or no. May
be, it all bison's errors? I can't download precompilated deb, because have not
money and I'm using GPRS. In all versions of wine I need add russian Tahoma
font. Morrowind can't run main screen if I use native windows quartz. Only in
Ubuntu version of wine I need add /media/cdrom0 in Drives in winecfg, and can't
run wine with sudo!
In one moment of playing Morrowind I was attacked with invisible monster. I
have screenshots of spell on this before my death. I don't know, was it bug of
wine or bug of game. Game have many bugs in windows too: in one game one of
main character dissapear. He was not invisible, but he can was in any of walls.
Game save fails.
I can pay $20-$100 to developping of wine. Can you make better the Morrowind
game?
Thank you for wine!
Zenitur.

I'm using Lotus Notes 7.0.2 with wine 0.9.53/Ubuntu 7.10
In some places in Lotus Notes, there are what I call "date selector", which are
small calendar displayed so you can easily choose a day. A typical place where
it is used is when you schedule an appointment.
This date selector is not displayed when LN is used with Wine.
Instead, clicking the date selector button writes the current date into the
date field. No error is displayed in the console.
Workaround : you can still write the date manually or use the up/down arrows to
change the date in the field.

Since version 5.5, IE supports the CSS property ‘writing-mode’. It enables
vertical text layout, in which text flows from top to bottom and lines flow
from right to left. Fullwidth characters (including all non-specially-halfwidth
CJK) are to be rendered as usual (with their top pointing towards the absolute
top of the box), while halfwidth characters are to be rotated by 90°. In Wine,
on the other hand, all characters are rotated no matter what width they are.
Here is a closely related piece of text from MSDN
(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb250415.aspx):
‘Operating system limitations prevent the correct display of East Asian
characters in an upright orientation in some configurations. This limitation
has been eliminated in Microsoft Windows® 2000, but Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0
and Windows 9x systems require a version of the operating system that has been
localized for an East Asian language to ensure that these characters display
correctly.’

When you try to install PSP X (10.0) you can't get past license agreement
screen,
because the next-button is disabled and doesn't change when you check the
accept box.
My first guess would be window messaging problems.
On Windoze, the Button becomes active when you scroll to the bottom of the
agreement and check the box.
The cancel (and after that, the finish-) button is invisible, but gets drawn
when you click in the right place.
err:msi:deformat_environment Unknown environment variable L"ALLUSERSPROFILE"
err:richedit:ReadStyleSheet ReadStyleSheet: skipping optional destination
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"LicenseAgreement" returned

This is the only possibly relevant output, last line after you clicked cancel.
Anyone think it's a good idea to suggest this for 1.0?
PSP is pretty popular, it has some functionality gimp hasn't and most people
can't afford Photoshop.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

ReportedBy: ben(a)bristoll.com
In Microsoft Word 2000, for some fonts only, the "regular" style fonts
(non-bolded) always appear as bolded in the document. These fonts appear to
stay bolded, even when you toggle them between being bold or un-bolded. For
some fonts, the italic style is also bolded (whether you make it bold or not),
while for some fonts, the italic style is always un-bolded, whether you make it
bold or not.
This is only happening with some fonts (Times New Roman, Garamond, Tahoma),
while others work as they should (Arial, Courier New, Century Gothic, Bitsream
Vera Sans).
This issue also seems to appear only in Word 2000. I do not see this problem
in Excel 2000 or PowerPoint 2000 (using the same fonts that have this issue in
Word 2000).
This issue first appeared for me in wine 0.9.53, and is still present in
0.9.54. When I revert to wine 0.9.46, the problem goes away (all fonts look as
they should).
Please let me know if there is any more information that would be useful.

In Picasa, select a picture and press Ctrl + k to bring up the keywords tool

On Windows, the keywords window is active. Pressing Alt + F4 closes the
keywords tool window.
On KDE, both the main window and the keywords window look like they are active.
If you start typing, the letters go into the keywords window, but if you press
Alt + F4, the main window closes. (and the tool window with it)
On Gnome, when the keywords tool window pops up, the keywords window looks like
the active window, but neither it nor the main window have focus.

2. go to the game options, keyboard config
3. assign capslock to some action in the keyboard config, like duck or jump
4. load a new game
5. press capslock
What's to be expected:
- pressing caps lock should trigger the action you've configured in the game
options. Step 3 works but 5 does not. I use capslock for ducking as it's right
next to WSAD, but the action doesn't happen. Nothing happens.

When hovering over a calendar item OPAS hows a popup tooltip with a some more
information about the event. On Wine this popup is also shown but then a dialog
informs about Visual FoxPro errors (property not found, field not found). This
bug is even when using native dcom98, msvcrt, shlwapi and other DLLs that could
be easily substituted.
A thing that I have found is that on Windows the tooltip seems not to take the
focus from the window while on Wine WM_KILLFOCUS and WM_SETFOCUS messages are
sent to transfer the focus to the tooltip. On the next WM_MOUSEMOVE the error
occurs.

It is essential to route manually wires between electonic parts. In latest Wine
0.9.45 first attempt to manual routing (via mouse) is OK, but the next one
being drawn at 90 degrees direction gets out of control. So straight wires are
drawn as always OK but those with at least 1 turn or more are not. This is a

Hi,
the idea sound a little crazy but could be some nice enhancement to wines
usability. I run an dual screen system and when any programm get into
fullscreen
there are two ways system handle these, first way is to turn of the second
screen and only display at one or ignore that there are two screens and draw
into the center of virtual screen so a fat beam (the monitor borders) split the
app output in two parts.
I like to run windows apps in the same space as my nativ apps and so I dislike
the
virtual desktop, but when launching games or other apps that like to fullscreen
then usally one of my screens turn off and I can't look at my other apps while
gaming, some of games allow window mode, but not all of them, so my enhancement
idea is to allow wine redirect fullscreen apps into an window like the virtual
desktop do, the window should be the size of the resolution the app likes to
set.
This shouldn't be the default behavior, but could activated in winecfg graphics
section.
regards Daniel

I explained this in Bug 5723 before, but that Bug was mainly another problem
that is now fixed. Summary:
Sometimes, the texture of a random model is not drawn properly when you have
both pixel- and vertexshaders enabled. It seems to affect one model at a time,
mostly. When there are more persons with the same model, it affects them, too,
textures of other models are ok. It happens in cutscenes as well as in normal
game. If you disable one or both shaders, all textures are rendered correctly.
Still present in 0.9.44, with both ARB and GLSL.

Install mono 1.2 with:

It will refuse to run at first due to modified executable code, but this has
been fixed by the developers and the fixed exe is here:
http://www.epicgames.com/download/UT3Demo-XP64-2K3.zip
Named XP64-2K3 because it wouldn't work with those (or Wine), not because it is
a 64-bit executable.
It also needs various native DLLs to run, and UseGLSL set to enabled to work.
Once it attempts to run, it displays the splash screen, then fails with the

xdg-users-dirs permits the usage of "well known" directories, for instance:
$XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR, $XDG_MUSIC_DIR, $XDG_PICTURES_DIR, $XDG_VIDEOS_DIR
For the time being wine creates 4 links for its Shell Folders ("My
Documents","My Pictures","My Music","My video" ) directly to user home or in
~/My Documents if it exists.
ls -l ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/maz
now:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 maz maz 9 2007-10-11 10:31 My Documents -> /home/maz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 maz maz 9 2007-10-11 10:31 My Music -> /home/maz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 maz maz 9 2007-10-11 10:31 My Pictures -> /home/maz
lrwxrwxrwx 1 maz maz 9 2007-10-11 10:31 My Video -> /home/maz
If wine would make use of $(XDG_CONFIG_HOME)/user-dirs.dirs (assuming it
exists), this could become (for example):
lrwxrwxrwx 1 maz maz 19 2007-10-11 10:53 My Documents -> /home/maz/Documents
lrwxrwxrwx 1 maz maz 15 2007-10-11 10:53 My Music -> /home/maz/Music
lrwxrwxrwx 1 maz maz 18 2007-10-11 10:54 My Pictures -> /home/maz/Pictures
lrwxrwxrwx 1 maz maz 16 2007-10-11 10:55 My Video -> /home/maz/Videos
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/151530
I believe this can be fixed with a simple change to wineprefixcreate. Am I
right?
