Summary: test_arb_vs_offset_limit() vertex program error
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: eric(a)anholt.net
While test_arb_vs_offset_limit() appears to intend to test the limits of
constant offsets from an address register, it also (I think) unintentionally
tests whether ARL accepts a floating point constant as the source value, which
is outside of the spec. Excerpts from ARB_vertex_program spec:
<ARL_instruction> ::= "ARL" <maskedAddrReg> "," <scalarSrcReg>
<scalarSrcReg> ::= <optionalSign> <srcReg> <scalarSuffix>
<srcReg> ::= <vertexAttribReg>
| <temporaryReg>
| <progParamReg>
<scalarSuffix> ::= "." <component>
<component> ::= "x"
| "y"
| "z"
| "w"
While it may be that Mesa should also allow constants as ARL arguments, the
program should probably be fixed to test only the intended out-of-spec
behavior.

butt
Japanese letters in Input Method window (uim) hides behind the line below the
cursor and even blank area below the cursor. Japanese letters which I typed is
seen just only the little of upper part.
Can it make the whole IM window will be seen in front of all? (May this request
be not to wine...)
Or can it make IM window will appear below the application window?
*Or can it make letters typed with IM which are not yet entered will be seen
just the same line as the place where there is the cursor.
The best thing is the line (*)..
As I see,the other problem about Home Page Builder Version 9 is only the
previewing the editing page. This problem is perhaps a little complicated
because it needs to invoke Internet Explorer engine. But it can substitute by
using firefox or something.
If this IM problem cleared, IBM's Home Page Builder can be utilize for
practical use in the country that needs IM.
I am a Japanese. Poor English sorry.

testcase project and 2 test binaries
When I upgraded to Winboard version 4.2.7b from 4.2.7a, I got parse errors when
the app tried to extract info from an online chess server. I tracked this down
as far as I am able-- it appears to be only a definition in the makefile:
-mno-cygwin. How that causes the bug, I don't understand, but presumably the
only difference between Winboard 4.2.7b and 4.2.7a (which works in wine) is the
presence of that option in the makefile.
When -mno-cygwin is present, a call like:
n=sscanf("r-bqk -1 0", "%5c%d%d", str, &i, &j);
only gets the first character into str rather than all 5 like it should, and n
becomes 1 with i and j failing to get read.
Attached is a testcase project to illustrate. It includes 2 binaries, the only
difference being the presence of -mno-cygwin during the build. (Line 19 in the
makefile) To build this testcase, you need the cygwin tools, probably just
normal build tools, and to run wbtest.exe, you need cygwin1.dll which I haven't
included.

wbtest.exe: works properly in windows, but fails in wine

This IS a bug, as far as I'm concerned. Building the amd64 package can't be any
harder than building the i386 package, especially when it uses the exact same
binaries.
The last time I looked at:
http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html
It was at least honest: It had a link to 0.9.44 for i386, and 0.9.43 for amd64.
Now, it does have a link to the nonexistant 0.9.44 package:
http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/ubuntu/feisty/wine_0.9.44~winehq0~u…
which doesn't exist.
First I tried the repository, as described here:
http://winehq.org/site/download-deb
The most recent version available was 0.9.43. I then asked in the IRC channel,
where others confirmed that 0.9.44 was, in fact, out and in the repository.
That's what lead me to look it up for myself, and confirm that there is no
0.9.44 amd64 debian package, either in the archive or in the main repository,
or anywhere else I can find.
I know how to compile things from source, and I know how to force a 386 package
to install, but it's a hassle. It defeats one of the main reasons we use
package management: automatic updates.
I'm not sure exactly where to submit this. It's not a bug in wine itself, and
yet, it's not really a website bug. Then again, that IS a broken link there.

I have just switched from an ATI 9700pro to a BFG 6600gt. Unfortunately, Medal
Of Honor: Allied Assault (MOHAA) will no longer run (the single player demo
shows the same problem). With my ATI board, it ran without a hitch in Wine.
After installing the latest Nvidia-glx drivers for Ubuntu Edgy, mohaa fails to
start. An empty grey screen is displayed, with the cursor visible. It seems
that it just can't start the game. ALL other Open-GL games run fine. Here are
my specs:
O/S: Ubuntu Edgy, i386 build
CPU: AMD 3000+ 64
RAM: 1GB DDR RAM
GPU: Nvidia BFG 6600GT
H/D: Seagate: Dedicated FAT32 partition
I have installed the nvidia-glx drivers via apt-get, as well as installed the
latest linux drivers (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.19-pkg1.run). Both produce the
same result.
Here is the output:

I have tried everything there is to try. I removed the card and replaced with
the old ATI and it runs. I used different versions of wine (up to 0.9.44) to no
effect. Either it is an NVIDIA bug or a Wine bug.

I use UltraVNC because with it and SingleClickVNC it is easy possible to
support people without installation, with only one file and encryption in
listen mode.
It works fine at first but always after around 10 minutes UltraVNC becomes
unresponsive. Systray icon blends out for some time If I click on it and I can
only see new viewer updates around my mouse.
If I start it in console I get many "err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)"
messages after this happens.
This only seems to happen if window is in use with mouse clicks and so on.
If this happens I have to close UltraVNC Viewer which is possible after some
waiting but the problem is that the listen mode port is in use for around 30
seconds or more so I have to wait until restart. Should I make another bug
report for this issue or is this a Linux problem?
So every time this happens the customer have to wait around a minute until I
can support him again and this every ten minutes.
This happens with every UltraVNC version I have used until now in Wine.
(1.0,1.2 and 1.4 rc5).
It has nothing to do with listen mode since it happens with UltraVNC Viewer and
a local Xvnc-Session too. Important is to use the session otherwise it wouldn't
happen at least not so fast.
I am using Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 with winehq repository.

With Irfanview, goto File -> Acquire/batch scanning, and hit ok in the dialog

With Picasa, do an import and select the scanner from the list of sources.

There is no backtrace from the segfault, but I tracked it down to

Platform: PC

Component: wine-files

ReportedBy: let02do(a)earthlink.net
Custom tff fonts allow the pgm to be a wsiwyg music editor. Its display
is ugly/un-usable without them. The fonts are installed by the program's
installer in .wine/dirve_c/windows/fonts This has been correctly pcked up in
wine versions 0.9.46 through 0.9.50 I skipped wine-0.9.51 (the
holidays--sorry.) Mozart also can't find other user selected fonts (Arial
etc.). reverting back to 0.9.50 corrects the problem.
A free but completly functional dowload of the program is available at:
http://www.mozart.co.uk
The full version is labled "Try Mozart for free" on the left side of the page
above a blue download link.

Proposed patch
Currently our builtin rebar code does not calculate 0 as the height of the
control if no bands are visible, while native does.
Tracing through our rebar code I found this suspicious code:
for (i = iBeginBand; i < iEndBand; i = next_band(infoPtr, i))
{
lpBand = &infoPtr->bands[i];
yMaxHeight = max(yMaxHeight, lpBand->lcy);
}
while further down the height of the control is returned as
return yPos + yMaxHeight;
It does not make sense to include the hight of a hidden band, and my fix
for (i = iBeginBand; i < iEndBand; i = next_band(infoPtr, i))
{
lpBand = &infoPtr->bands[i];
if(!HIDDENBAND(lpBand))
yMaxHeight = max(yMaxHeight, lpBand->lcy);
}
corrects the problem.
But this will need a test case, right?

Major because it affects lots of other games. Also since development goes

First of all I don't know if this is an actual bug in wine, but don't know
where else to report.
I run Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy, and there is no issue when running the wine version in
the official gutsy repository (0.9.46).
When I upgrade wine through the repositories on wine.budgetdedicated.com most
of the apps stops working.
Just after the wine desktop appears the computer restarts X (like pressing
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace).
The following apps all works on 0.9.46 (and still does if I downgrade)
Return Of The Incredible Machine
Edit+ 2
Elasto Mania
Pocket Tanks
GTA2
Starcraft 1
Mansion Poker
But after upgrading to 0.9.5x only Edit+ 2 and Mansion Poker works.
Can't say if 0.9.47-49 works because I haven't tried them.
The fact that it's the game apps that doesn't work makes me think it's a
graphics problem.
The system has a intel i965 chip, and the xserver-xorg-video-intel drivers
installed.

There are some controls on CS2 that allow you to slide a token indicator along
a scale or to adjust a curve by clicking and dragging on any point across it. I
found multiple examples where these are not working.
1 - Create a new adjustment layer with “Levels”. The resulting dialog has
little sliding tokens to adjust both the input and output levels. On windows
you simply slide them. On Wine you cannot . Here is a screenshot to illustrate:
http://download.erasmix.net/CS2-WINE/Screenshot-1.png
2 -Create a new adjustment layer with “Curves”. The resulting dialog has a
diagonal line that can be adjusted by clicking and dragging anywhere on it. In
Wine this line seems stuck, there is no way to drag points in any direction.
Here is a screenshot to illustrate:
http://download.erasmix.net/CS2-WINE/Screenshot-2.png
3- Create an adjustment layer using “Brightness/Contrast”. This dialog has
little sliding tokens to adjust left or right (these are a bit different than
the ones described on 1). These cannot be slided either. Here is a screenshot
to illustrate: http://download.erasmix.net/CS2-WINE/Screenshot-4.png

After many successful previous Wine upgrades, I upgraded from Version 0.9.42 to
the new Version 0.9.43, only to discover that NONE of my old Windows 3.1 games
will start up -- NONE of them. I NEVER had that problem with any earlier
version. I then uninstalled and re-installed with a different (but still
compatible) .rpm release -- no difference whatsoever. And yes, ALL of my 32-bit
programs worked just fine. As a result, I UNINSTALLED Version 0.9.43 and
re-installed Version 0.9.42 (I simply cannot adequately replace those great old
Windows 3.1 games).
So PLEASE fix this -- DON'T be like some developers lately who just don't seem
to care at all about any of the older stuff. Thank you.
P.S. In addition, "winecfg" was nothing but a 0-bit empty file -- it wouldn't
even run. Is that PROGRESS?

I originally sent something only these lines to appdb(a)winehq.org where
suggestions are to go, but I thought I might enter it here also.
I have a feeling that there are a few appdb maintainers who are inactive, which
reduces the overall effectiveness and quality of the appdb. If appdb entries
have maintainers but the data is old, why are they still maintainers and is
there something that can be done to stop this from happening.
I have some ideas,
my first idea is that maintainers should be reminded to submit new test data
after each new release if no one else has.
If they cannot manage to do this they should get a warning that they aren't
meeting the responsibilities of a maintainer and will be removed.
If they still don't manage to make good on their commitment they should be
removed and a record made that they have been unreliable if they decide to sign
up sometime in the future, which might tie into the approval process.
This would include maintainers failing to approve or reject test data or
screenshots, (I think this is already in progress or done within the last few
days?)
My second idea is that might be useful is a link to list of apps that require
maintainers or test data, this way people can actively seek out to improve the
system by browsing lists appdb entries that,
a. need screenshots
b. need test data
c. volunteer as a maintainer to regularly do a and b.

While 0.9.48 works fine, the game freezes while loading on 0.9.49 after
displaying the intro pics. I ran a regression test:
f6637cae983323eb60d989e5d144b15f1fee2846 is first bad commit
commit f6637cae983323eb60d989e5d144b15f1fee2846
Author: Stefan Dösinger <stefan(a)codeweavers.com>
Date: Sat Oct 13 12:54:10 2007 +0200

Steps to reproduce:
- Install the game using the First URL and use the binary provided by the
second URL to start it.
- Select a resolution. Fonts may corrupted, just click on the upper left hex to
select. This is only needed once.
- Intro pics will get displayed. Click mouse1 to skip, there are 3 of them.
- The game will now sit there sucking CPU time for about a minute or so. After
that there will be a message that the engine started. Just wait for it, and
don't alt+tab
- In case of 0.9.48: You will be provided with a dialog to change graphic
settings. This is the sign of success
- In case of 0.9.49: The game will freeze with the following console output:
err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 4 bytes in thread 0009 eip 7ef84e81 esp
00230ffc stack 0x231000-0x340000
I'm sorry that I'm not able to test 0.9.53 (the current one), but that version
will not even get to the point of displaying the intro pics, it will freeze on
the spot without any suspicious console output.
I'm still investigating that as I'm unsure whether this is a seperate bug. If
someone could write a patch for me that disables the bad commit mentioned
above, I could try applying it to current sources and see what happens.

Currently, Debian discourages installing non-free stuff such as the Microsoft
core fonts. Debian policy forbids me from recommending it. (They also consider
the Liberation fonts undistributable.) Hence, you have to expect Wine users
from Debian to not have fonts like Arial available. The problem is that, if an
application asks for such a nonexistent fonts (very common), Wine frequently
chooses Marlett, which is fairly illegible. It'd be much more user-friendly if
it chose Tahoma or something.
I have a bug report that suggests that whether Wine chooses Marlett or not
depends on the fontforge version that Marlett.ttf is generated with (the
fontforge in Debian Stable (etch) works, but the one in Debian Testing/Unstable
does not), but I don't have much time to investigate why. Perhaps someone at
Wine knows. Is it something that should be fixed in the marlett.sfd file, or
should the bug be reassigned to fontforge?

Running 'Hitman 2' (the game) in wine creates a sticky key. When wine in closed
the problem remains. Restarting gdm ends the problem. This has also happened
once when wine was not running, I had just mashed the keyboard by mistake so
have no idea what keys were pressed to cause it. It's a standard 105 keyboard
using British layout, nothing special in hardware or config. Have reconfigured
xserver-xorg several times, cannot fix.
I can confirm that bug. For it me occured when running:
1. Oblivion with wine 0.9.52. When I press '1' keys it becomes sticky
2. World of Warcraft with wine 0.9.53. When I press 'w' or 's' it works fine
for some time, but then becomes sticky
Wine is installed from http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt. I use xserver-xorg
from Debian Sid (I'm using Debian BTW)
When I exit wine key remains sticky. I have to restart X session to fix that.

Regression caused two problems... white screen but only in nVidia cards(was
fixed later Wine versions) and black screen(still happened in Wine 0.9.37)...
that black screen was still there when I tested it last time(on Wine 0.9.37) so
it's half-fixed.
I will try this again in this weekend hopefully.

I know that it's too early to say this, but when Wine started to support Run
and RunOnce registry entries, I have few Windows worms on my computer (I've
been using ies4linux).
Is this possible, that when for example virus developer will think about
supporting Linux he will steal data? I think, yes.
As we know, wine have access to the whole drive (most users have / configured
as Z:\). If we have a virus installed in Run in the registry, and the virus
will look for every drive in the system (especially for Z:\) it can try to
detect if there is any Z:\home\[user] directory and it can steal data from it.
Virus devs can even try to compile their viruses with libwine to check if they
will work on Linux.
