Why is this marked as a regression? Did it work at some point? If so, please
run a regression test [1]. If not, then the regression keyword needs to be
removed.

Summary: Lotus Notes window disappears when using Compiz
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.53.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ploum(a)fritalk.com
I'm using Lotus Notes hard client 7.0.2 with Wine 9.53 under Ubuntu 7.10 and it
works fine. I launch it from an icon in the Gnome panel.
Except if you enable Compiz.
If Compiz is enabled, Lotus Notes will start normally but, as soon as you
change your virtual desktop, the LN window will disappear. The processes are
still running so it seems to be only a matter of display.
If you run Lotus Notes from a gnome-terminal instance (instead of the
gnome-panel icon), the window will NOT disappear !
But, instead, the console will be constantly filled with :
err:win:DefWindowProcA called for other process window 0x10020
err:win:DefWindowProcA called for other process window 0x10020
err:win:DefWindowProcA called for other process window 0x10020
This take a lot of CPU but, besides this, Lotus Notes works normally.
This bug seems to be very common :

Wine 0.9.50 and on should have the fix. 0.9.54 is the newest, and unless you
have a good reason not to, is the version you should use.

It would give an idea of where to start looking, so yes. Run a regression test,
using nov 24 as the good and 0.9.54 as the bad. Or was Nov 24 also bad? If so,
regression testing wouldn't tell you too much, you'd need to know some point
where it worked...

I can confirm the same problem on my machine:
-AMD Sempron64 3000+

-ATI Radeon x600 [RV380]
It also happens when I alt+tab a bit too much. Happened since I got this new
card, suspect it has to do with the r300 series.

Yes, the problem with memory leaks in AVP1 when entering game level / exiting
to menu (aborting the game) still exists in current git wine. By repeating
these steps the process reserved memory footprint is growing and growing every
time by a certain amount. The amount of memory leaked seems to be correlated to
resolution. Seems to be few hundred kilobytes at small resolutions and a few
Mbs at 1280x1024x32. So I suspect maybe memory of front/back/z - buffer is
leaked or something like that. I've already spent a good deal of time trying to
figure out what happens, but no luck so far. It can even turn out to be driver
bugs. I'm currently experimenting with mesa software libgl - it's reproducible
on it too, so maybe I can find what memory is allocated and not freed and
where.

Wine does not have automatic mechanism to register it's mime-types with system.
Nor import system registered mime-types. This is something for the
packagers/integrators to think about.

Is there any chance that double-clicking an attachment open the document with
the corresponding mime-type application under Linux ?
If I receive a word file, can it open it with my native OpenOffice ?
(From an integration point of view, it makes perfect sense. Even if you want to
use Word with wine to open a .doc, you would simply have to register "wine
word.exe" as the handler for .doc file)

This means that Wine dereferences NULL pointer and crashes. Please try

Just curious--what version of Wine would this fix be included in? I'm running
0.9.46, set to Win2K, and during O2Kupg installation I still get no button that
causes the drive select combobox to open (see screenshot). I was rejoicing at
the message that this problem's been fixed, so I installed Wine fresh yesterday
and tried it, but it's not behaving differently from before.
Maybe I've been concentrating on the wrong part of the problem, as in there was
indeed no combobox to select drives from, but I hadn't actually gotten to that
point yet because I don't even have the button that *triggers* the combobox
which has now, itself, been implemented.
(Sorry to posed on a closed/fixed issue.)

I just checked 0.9.54 (openSuse buildservice version), the bug does occur
again. I've noticed that this bug re-occured in a wine release LATER than the
cvs version i've checked (from Nov 24. 2007) but I'm sorry i cannot recall the
exact version number.
Additionally i've now tested 0.9.54 on openSUSE 10.3 (64bit), where the bug
does not "really" occur, i'll try to describe:
On the faster machine, the system and the ingame pointer get "out of sync" too,
i.e. the ingame pointer is stuck while you can move the system pointer. after
about half a second to a second, the ingame pointer "jumps" to the
systempointer and they are again in resync. This happens permanently, in
intervall of a few seconds.
I blame this "beeing out of sync" to be the bug, but on the much slower
hardware (850 mhz PIII) they never get resynced and you cannot continue the
game (game seems to work, but since your system pointer movements and clicks
are not recognized by the game, you can only restart).
I could start from the CVS version Nov. 24 (where bug did not occur) and try
building each release since then to see when the switchover (not occur ->
occur) happens, if this helps in finding the cause.

Btw. you might be able to test this with the demo.
ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/ea/demos/nfs3/nfsdemo.zip
Also the problems seems to be somewhat system specific. If the demo starts
without problems after installing it to clean wine system you're out of
debugging luck.
The demo starts with my system when I shorten the long full-path lines in
install.win to under 44 characters. The paths don't need to work.

I followed the instructions for regression testing, but after building 0.9.54
from source, that problem that I had described before (where it hung before
even showing the main window) magically DISAPPEARED (did not happen this time)!
Strange, as I would have expected 0.9.54 from git to behave identical to 0.9.54
from a package. So no regression I guess...
But there's still a problem (the reporter's original problem): Whenever I try
to run either "Practice Questions" or "Practice Test", the application shows a
"Please Wait" message but then just hangs there.
I will attach the debugger output, but here are the last 2 lines:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7b928b40 "syslevel.c:
Win16Mutex" wait timed out in thread 0012, blocked by 0015, retrying (60 sec)
err:syslevel:_LeaveSysLevel (0x7b928b40, level 1): Invalid state: count 0 mutex
(nil).
What I did:
$ git bisect start
...
$ CC="ccache gcc -m32" ./configure --verbose && make clean && make
$ ./wine --version
wine-0.9.54
(Kept same ~/.wine dir)
$ ./wine "C:\Program Files\ETS\PPGRE\PPGRE\PPGRE.EXE"

The problem seems to be related to the fact that GetFileVersionInfoXXXX APIs
may trash the refcount of loaded DLLs. That happens because GetModuleHandleExW
increments the refcount *only* for the library handle passed to it, but
FreeLibrary which gets called later decrements refcounts for each linked in
library. This may imply a bug in GetModuleHandleExW.
However. The testing with native version.dll shows that it doesn't care
about already loaded modules and always loads the library as a data file,
i.e calls LoadLibraryExW(filename, 0, LOAD_LIBRARY_AS_DATAFILE);

The non-English (in my case, Russian) characters are replaced by colons in
several dialog boxes (including file selection dialog, winecfg dialog and
others). Look at the attached screenshot (it is 'wine notepad' with file
selection dialog opened). You can see that Russian text in notepad's main
window and menu is displayed correctly, but in the file selection dialog
(buttons, labels, input fields) it is replaced by colons. Note that Russian
file names in this dialog are displayed correctly.
The locale used is ru_RU.UTF-8. Changing it to ru_RU.KOI8-R (one-byte encoding)
doesn't help.

I tried downgrading to wine=0.9.46-0ubuntu1 and running it again with logging
on to see if it was able to get past the call to KERNEL32.Sleep(ffffffff) in
the older version (or if it even CALLED Sleep before) and sure enough it
does...
...
000b:Call KERNEL32.Sleep(ffffffff) ret=7effd5d6
[Continues on]
000c:Call
winex11.drv.MsgWaitForMultipleObjectsEx(00000003,7ba37318,00002710,00000040,00000000)
ret=7ed93b43
000e:Ret PE DLL (proc=0x7ecf4030,module=0x7ec90000
L"gdi32.dll",reason=PROCESS_ATTACH,res=0x1) retval=1
000e:Call PE DLL (proc=0x7edea320,module=0x7ed40000
L"user32.dll",reason=PROCESS_ATTACH,res=0x1)
so, not that it was working FULLY in 0.9.46, but it least it didn't get stuck
and freeze in that version like it's doing in 0.9.54, so I wonder if there's
been a regression.
Anyway, for what it's worth... I doubt Powerprep is much of a priority to
anyone else. (So I'll probably just boot into Windows for this anyway...)

I should probably note that the lines starting at:
0035:trace:seh:raise_exception ...
ONLY occur when I press Ctrl-C.
If I just let it sit there and then examine the log file in another process,
then these are the last lines in the log:
0041:Ret KERNEL32.LoadModule16() retval=00001226 ret=7eea2d6e
0041:Call KERNEL32.48(0034f8c0) ret=7eea2d8b
0041:Ret KERNEL32.48() retval=00000000 ret=7eea2d8b
0041:Call KERNEL32.Sleep(ffffffff) ret=7eea2d9a
So by appearances, it looks like it decided to go to sleep indefinitely. But
why??

Sorry, I wasn't aware that 0.9.45 was a very old version. (It's much newer than
the one the reporter would have been using in 2005-11-06.) But I can understand
that you'd like reporters to only use the newest version...
---------------------------
Trying again with wine-0.9.54 ...
Now when I do wine PPGRE.EXE, it just hangs there (it doesn't show any windows
at all like I did with the older wine version) and I have to Ctrl-C out.
Attached is a backtrace from doing this...

Hello,
small correction...
--- snip trace ---
0046:trace:process:CreateProcessW starting L"C:\\windows\\temp\\setup.exe" as
Win32 binary (0x400000-0x4a4000)
--- snip trace ---
vs.
--- snip comment ---
Because of this "setup.exe" is resolved to "d:\\setup.exe" (d:\\ = cdrom root
dir) = wrong.
--- snip comment ---
"C:\\windows\\temp\\setup.exe" is actually a copy of "d:\\setup.exe" which is
the current (main) installer executing.
Anyway it gets the wrong one due to missing filename/path expansion/resolver in
ShellExecute().

patch which fixes shrinker 3.x issues, making it fully wine compatible
Hello,
--- snip ---
Anyone fancy trying it out?
--- snip ---
How should I have known how to fix this? ;-)
Some time ago I downloaded that game in question, analyzed the problem, created
& tested the patch.
I usually delete everything afterwards because there is no use for me to keep
games/apps/patches around.
Unfortunately it seems to be somewhat difficult to get Shrinker 3.x protected
apps nowadays.
I redownloaded that app I mentioned in comment #10 "Astrosoft Vision 4"
(http://astrosoft.ch/vision.htm) but it seems they dropped Shrinker in favour
of ASProtect (another PE protector).
Good choice for them. Good riddance of Shrinker.
I replaced the old patch for a better "GIT-like" version.
You might try to send it but actually I don't care if it makes into GIT.
Technically there is no other solution but to resemble the expected entry point
signature for such brain damaged piece of software called Shrinker.

Hello,

When you run it, it checks for installed components,
tells you you need IIS, and lets you continue without it.
When you click "Continue", it thinks for a couple seconds,
then the dialog goes away, and nothing happens.

same happens with VS.NET 2003 (7.1).
VS.NET 2002 isn't that widespread/used anymore so if anyone owns VS.NET 2002
try the fix there too.
Because there is no error message associated and even +relay didn't show
anything suspicious this problem was somewhat tricky.

What happens ...
Well, the installer spawns sub-installers - which coincidally have the same
filename.
Unfortunately the wrong setup.exe is spawned (main installer instead of
sub-installer) resulting in installer detecting a running instance of itself
(mutex) and silently terminating.
Parent then terminates too without any error.
CDROM disk layout ("d:\\"):
root directory: setup.exe (main installer)
sub directory: wcu\setup.exe (sub installer for prerequisites)
I first thought CreateProcessW() was to blame because it resolved the wrong
setup.exe but it was not the case.
CreateProcessW() works expected if given a short pathname of executable:
--- snip ---
search order:
1. The directory from which the application loaded.
2. The current directory for the parent process.
3. The 32-bit Windows system directory. Use the GetSystemDirectory function
to get the path of this directory.
4. The 16-bit Windows system directory. There is no function that obtains
the path of this directory, but it is searched. The name of this directory is
System.
5. The Windows directory. Use the GetWindowsDirectory function to get the
path of this directory.
6. The directories that are listed in the PATH environment variable. Note
that this function does not search the per-application path specified by the
App Paths registry key. To include this per-application path in the search
sequence, use the ShellExecute function.
--- snip ---
Because of this "setup.exe" is resolved to "d:\\setup.exe" (d:\\ = cdrom root
dir) = wrong.
The application filename needs to be expanded before the CreateProcess() call -
so only ShellExecute() is left as possible cause.
In windows the sub-installer is created with full path "d:\\wcu\\setup.exe" -
so a filename expansion/resolve must take place in API.
I first used SearchPath() with explicit path to do LoadLibrary-like search in
SHELL_execute().
Later I found the more convenient PathFindOnPath() which does all in one call
without additional buffers/copying.
The attached patch fixes the VS.NET 2003 installer problem for me, starting the
correct prerequisites sub-installer.
Regards

Could you retry this in a clean .wine directory and wine 0.9.54 (remove or
rename your current .wine directory, reinstall and retest).

More than likely buggy video drivers. A normal user cannot lockup/crash X. Only
root (or something running as root) can do this.

Just did a test on:
$ uname -a
Linux agamemnon 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Dec 18 08:02:57 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux
$ wine --version
wine-0.9.47
And it seems to be working here. But I haven't tried totally removing Steam and
then restoring, yet (sorry, this is all I have time for this morning.)

I've just tested SonEd with Wine 0.9.54, and the result is bad. I could not
even check if the scrollbars are drawn or not (which is the subject of this
bug), because the graphics were completly garbled.

I'm running a core 2 duo system with 32-bit ubuntu and wine 3.9.54 and I'm
beginning to experience the same crashed only since the 2.3.3 patch.
I've tried the "schedtool"-trick, still crashes.
Any ideas are appreciated.
