--- Comment #6 from Fábio Capela <fabio.capela(a)yahoo.com> 2008-01-18 19:27:30 ---
(In reply to comment #5)
> Does adding a symlink /usr/lib32/locale -> /usr/lib/locale help?
At least in my case it doesn't change anything (I'm also having the same
problem, with both the <`> (left of 1), <'> (right of ;) and shift-6 keys, in
both WoW and Guild Wars).
If my bug is the same as the other posters, I have reliably reproduced the bug
with Armagetron Advanced (www.armagetronad.net, less than 3MB). If you set the
keyboard to something without deadkey, for example the US one (setxkbmap us),
you can enter the console from the menu by pressing <`>. Now if you set the
keyboard to something with deadkeys, such as the US-International one
(setxkbmap us -variant alt-intl), you can't enter the console anymore by
pressing just <`>, you need to press AltGr+<`>.
This happens because of the:
if (XFilterEvent( &event, None )) continue; /* filtered, ignore it */
line in dlls/winex11.drv/event.c . It is completely discarding all deadkey
keypresses; to solve the problem you need to let deadkey keypresses generate
WM_KEYDOWN messages (and then, to not break the deadkey handling in wine, you
have to catch and store the result of XFilterEvent to pass to the
TranslateMessage function when it is eventually called to handle the
WM_KEYDOWN; this is what my patch tries to do, although it will fail to
correctly pass this information if either you have more than 10 keypress
events, or two keypress events for the same key and different string results,
before the program calls TranslateMessage).
(combining it with your patch posted in bug 4923, which enforces that at all
times there's at most one input event in the wine server queue, would
theoretically solve my patch's failures, although I don't think that is the
right way to proceed.)
(BTW, I was thinking about how to create a testcase for this bug, but I don't
see a way to do it with the current implementation of X11DRV_SendInput in
dlls/winex11.drv/event.c - the bug is in converting X keypress events to
WM_KEYDOWN messages, and X11DRV_SendInput creates the messages directly,
bypassing the conversion step.)

Compacting the heap is not strictly important to this app. It does so only when
memory is low. However, it is highly unlikely memory is low for such a small
computation. Memory allocation is very sophisticated making use of HeapAlloc,
VirtualAlloc and VirtualQuery. I hope this is helpful.

i dont know any programs with Vista icons, but I suspect you could just use PE
Explorer to add dummy icon to a dummy exe for a text case. So far only utorrent
is tagged as affected adn they stopped using vista icon so i guess this bug can
wait :)

With Wine 0.9.53 the WMA/WMV codecs are installed and useable in the Player.
The installer still says it fails, though if run again it will succeed.
I have not tested DRM files.

The original bug was for the application not starting at ALL. The problem on
not running in full screen was already present. The original bug is fixed, but
the full screen problem has been filed as bug 11236. I closed this bug, since
this regression was fixed, and the other bug keeps track of the other issue. If
you want to keep this one open, that's fine, but please mark bug 11236 as a
dupe.

no, sry, haven't been able to look at this. If somebody else wants to spend
some time here, pls do so. At least a solution for the GetDepthStencilSurface()
issue sounds doable. Not sure about the SetVertexShaderConstant thing,
implementing the whole software vertexprocessing in wined3d is probably quite a
lot of work. Don't know if a hack as used here would be accepted.

I totally agree, but I guess its easier and faster to tweak own program than to
document the bug, write test case, post it and wait for the fix. Here is one
example : http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8490 , submitted ~a year ago,
status still UNCONFIRMED, thats why i dont blame utorrent guys. I was trying to
submit all the bugs i knew about and ask for as much info from the devs as i
could.

BTW uTorrent devs are doing some heavy hacking to work in Wine in newest Alpha,
heres the changelog from : http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=31998
- Change: Advanced setting to disable WINE hacks if need be (program restart
required)
- Change: A boatload of GUI hacks for WINE, including disabling listview
flicker workarounds, a multitude of ugly hacks to make the addtorrent dialog
usable on it, and disabling the messagebox subclassing (which means no checkbox
or controls in them)
so this bug might look like obsolete/fixed in new uTorrent wersions, but will
me only masked for wine.
btw I dont remember now why I did write "flags", obviously im no W32 gui
programmer, but i was researching w32 API involved with this bug at the time so
I guess I saw the difference in the flags when running wine with different OS
set.

Are any of you using a keyboard layout with deadkeys / combination keys?
Can you test to see if you can bind actions to the <altGr>+key combinations for
the keys you are having problems?
Also, can you test to see if the problem still exists with a keyboard layout
without deadkeys, such as the US one, or any "nodeadkey" variety?
If those two tests works, you can probabily use the patch I've sent previously.

Hello,
used current GIT (wine-0.9.53-137-ga9e9673).
First issue is gdiplus ...

wine: Call from 0x7b8414e0 to unimplemented function

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x009ad4d8 at address

First chance exception: page fault on read access to 0x009ad4d8 in 32-bit code

Which leads to message box "Runtime Error 216 at 0040366E" popping up.
Use 'winetricks gdiplus' for native override to work around incomplete wine
implementation.
Second issue is unimplemented browser/control ready state
transitions/notifications.
Many apps which use embedded browser control poll ready states (or advise event
sinks for async notifications) to check for completion of container/child
control load/init state.

I used explicit READYSTATE_COMPLETE instead of READYSTATE_LOADED for browser to
mimic behavior of many controls which do not differentiate between "loaded" and
any other state (such as gui controls that load all their properties and have
no external data to retrieve).
Child controls do not need to support this property at all so the container
always assumes READYSTATE_COMPLETE.
With the hack applied the app starts and shows main gui. One can load default
project.
Though there is some mshtml component error message box popping up which can be
dismissed (file new bug reports for that).
Of course the browser ready state property changes/transitions should be
properly fleshed out some day...

"The vfat / fat32 driver does already have a function for find a filename
case-insensitively and Wine already uses it. It doesn't help the people that
are
installing this app on other filesystems."
When does Wine determine to do this? If I drag a folder from my
~/.wine/drive_c directory to a vfat filesystem and then create a symlink to it,
is Wine smart enough to use that?
I tried doing exactly this, and performance is still really slow for the
application (System Shock 2). I'm not 100% certain the load time is due to
this issue, but I do know that System Shock 2 works by loading up some files
from one folder and then looking for newer ones with the same
(case-insensitive) name in the main folder to use instead as newer
replacements.

Confirming this bug. Enough info in this bug for someone familiar with ole
stuff to fix a patch...
Note, it starts fine using native oleaut32, but then you also have to copy a
native stdole2.tlb into system32.

I've tested Guild Wars and Dawn of War - Dark Crusade with the latest git
(which already seemed to have some fixes to check the number of processors) and
also with the patch (applied manually since it wasn't compatible with the state
of the git). But in both cases these two games only seemed to use one processor
at a time (or one with full load and the other more or less unused).
So it's good if this fix helps in some cases, but there still seems to be some
more things that might have to be done.

The crash for notepad (win98se) in PRINTDLG_PageDlgProcA
was fixed some weeks ago.
The reason for notepad (w2k) not printing is your stub for
PrintDlgEx (comdlg32.dll), but that is bug 4342

--- Comment #32 from Anastasius Focht <focht(a)gmx.net> 2008-01-17 12:43:52 ---
Hello,
well I stumbled over this one just today while trying to use PowerISO windows
tool to convert some downloaded .daa file (damn proprietary formats).
I hate it when something doesn't work just when I need it ... so immediate
investigation was just natural to follow ;-)
--- quote ---
but the fix outlined by you in the end ( so in gdi32.StretchDIBits()) looks
better to me as well.
--- quote ---
That was just my opinion. Although it might look more "hackish" to do an early
probe read, I think it's actually the right place to fix this crappy bug.
In general SEH guards should not be overused and placed very carefully in wine.
They should not cover too much code/nesting levels because that approach might
hide other bugs.
That's why I thought x11 driver's X11DRV_DIB_SetImageBits might not be the
right place for SEH.
Example for early probe read (it looks hackish but works, I tested with some
apps):
--- dlls/gdi32/dib.c ---
INT WINAPI StretchDIBits(HDC hdc, INT xDst, INT yDst, INT widthDst, ..
{
if (!bits || !info)
return 0;
/* detect broken MFC apps which pass invalid bits pointer */
__TRY
{
volatile const char *ptr = bits;
char dummy = ptr[0];
}
__EXCEPT_PAGE_FAULT
{
return 0;
}
__ENDTRY
...
}
--- dlls/gdi32/dib.c ---
Anyway if that proposed x11 driver patch already pleased Alexandre, you might
resend it to mailing list, pointing again to this bug/comments.
Regards
