I'm playing WoW using a 64bit Ubuntu on a DualCore Intel Cpu.
The underlying problem is probably a race condition because you can reduce lock
ups by setting the linux scheduler cpu affinity mask to just one cpu.
schedtool -a 0x2 -e ./Wow.exe
Are those of you that have the same lockup using dualcore cpus?

Areas with a great deal of objects tend to be where I have the problem. I do
have a number of UI mods as well. I never hit log-out, so none of mine occur in
that situation. I tend to get timeouts within the first couple of minutes of
entering the world while the textures and objects are still loading. I have
entire days without them, I have 3-5 minute intervals for 20-30 minutes in a
row, and I have one or two random appearances in the middle of a couple hours
of game play. No obvious rhyme or reason.
These are symptoms of the same threading problem(s), just different
manifestations.

I have been using this app all along and at one point had UI glitches but it
was a bad driver. I installed a nvidia FX5200 to replace the built in buggy
openchrome driver.
Dragging-resizing MDI child windows seem to be correct. I would say this could
be closed as a possible driver problem if the original reporter can't confirm
it is still a problem with other hardware.

I'd certainly state for the record that it appears the 'bug' is far more common
upon exiting from the world back to the character selection screen. I seem to
recall I've also had it when porting to another continent, or upon
entering/exiting instances, but for me the logging out of a character certainly
trips this up more often than not.
This may be because I have quite a few UI mods for the game, and when the exit
character routines start, the game saves all the UI info back to disk. This
makes me wonder if the hang may be related to some IO thing - albeit this is
merely a guess based upon no evidence whatsoever.

Via e-mail:
Sorry for the query, is it really fixed? I've checked with wine 0.9.53:
In "ApolFrac" choose from the menubar "color" and then "light", and the
four light controls should show up (without mouse click)?
Testing that in wine 0.9.53 shows that isn't fixed. The periodic table element
colors, however, show up fine.
Reopening.

I have this issue as well and would testify to it being a race. It either
occurs repeatedly, or seemingly randomly while the game is running. I'm using
wine-0.9.53 but have been experiencing this for at least the two prior versions
as well.
Warcraft's internal tracebacks and error logs (one of which I have attached)
show more than one variety of failure when this occurs. I'll attach other
varieties, if it will help. This one shows the stack trace as WoW.exe sees it
when an "unknown exception" occurs.
If WINEDEBUG would be helpful, some pointers for the appropriate debug classes
would be appreciated. 'all' is a bit much, even with opengl and dsound
disabled.

The problem is not the eject one, but rather that the installer simply quits
after the first disk and says "Install complete".
And FWIW I never cd into the disc drive, but rather run this from my home
directory: "wine /media/cdrom/Setup.exe".

The game is known not to run on that card on Windows. It is a game's bug there,
and interestingly putting WineD3D and our D3D9 into the game's directory allows
the game to run pretty nice with Intel cards on Windows.
The fog of war is broken on quite a few setups. I've seen it broken on MacOS
with my radeon X1600, and on the Intel GMA on Windows. Maybe that is causing
your bugs.
Note that this card will not run the game in highest graphics. The hardware
just doesn't do that.

I'm running with wine 0.9.53 and when I get to the actual gameplay it looks
like the shadows are working but the ground in the game is all black. The
horizon and the sky looks good. If I turn up all the graphic settings from
lowest the game looks perfect in about 1/4 of window, the upper right quadrant.
The terminal is full of:
fixme:d3d:transform_texture Non-power2 texture being used with generated
texture coords
and some:
fixme:d3d:handleStreams Tangent and binormal bump mapping is only valid with
vertex shaders
fixme:d3d:transform_texture Non-power2 texture being used with generated

This is with an intel graphics adapter, namely "Intel Corporation Mobile

Please note that the mouse centering bug does not appear in the menus if
compatibility is changed to Windows XP. However, in that case, the mouse sticks
towards the center of the screen when the player is actually 'in-game' and not
in the menu system.
Other compatibilities, the mouse sticks to the center of the screen in the menu
system, and you can't even get to the in-game system since you can't escape the
menus.

I am suffering from the same problem - especially shutdown of Pegasus after
sending a mail makes it virtually unusable under Linux.

patch
I have created a patch which seems to solve this problem in notepad and the
test applications that I made. It solves the problem when there are vertical
and horizontal, and also when there is only one or the other. Please test it.

I'm experiencing a loss of keyboard focus occasionally still on the latest git.
There's no way to regain focus once lost without restarting the game. This is
with window manager management and without.
I use plain fluxbox as my WM.

Any chance of seeing this fixed in the future or an attempt to keep these
patches up to date? I've tried but wine is just too big for my skills

Thanks for confirming the bug. I don't know why it tries to open port 0. I
assume that it was programmer mistake. He just did something like this:
use_some_smart_ms_function_to_open_port(0);
And he/she was just happy that it worked. But he/she didn't even wonder why it
works and that in fact it uses port 950. While waiting these two years for
fixing this bug I have reversed most of the ponyChat protocol. The project is
called ospcc and you can find source code here: http://ospcc.sf.net/ I hope it
can help you to understand how ponyChat works :)

I'm still experiencing the white minimap issue on 0.9.53 and ATI hardware
(Radeon HD 3850 and Radeon 9000). The text issue is resolved if I set the
registry entry for disabling "GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object", but the minimap
issue remains.
