First you have to install Firefox for Windows to
access http://pack.google.com to work around bug 9291.
That lets you download Google Updater.exe.
But that app fails to start, and aborts with a dialog:

The -extra commandline argument probably indicates which apps
google pack should install after installing itself.
If you run GoogleUpdaterSetup.exe with no args, it
fails with a different problem (no BITS service started).

I removed the default Wine 0.9.49 installation (from Ubuntu 7.10) and
compiled/installed the latest Wine (0.9.50) source. Steam runs perfectly fine
after adding the "tahoma.ttf" font into the fonts folder but counter-strike 1.6
fails to load. I tried removing the CS files from Wine and reinstalling it via
steam but it still doesn't work.
Extra notes: I haven't tried running steam or counter-strike in a few days, so
it could have something to do with a steam update -- but in either case, I
can't seem to get counter-strike running.
I get the "loading counter-strike" message after launching it, but the message
just disappears and nothing starts up.

In certain places in winecfg, pressing alt + a certain key will freeze winecfg
(it never seems to actually crash).
Steps to reproduce:
Start winecfg
Click Libraries
Press alt + m
winecfg has now frozen.
- It works on tabs other than Libraries, and with keys other than alt + m
(depending on what tab you are on).
- If the key pressed is an alt + key shortcut on the current tab, it won't
crash
- It only happens when no control has the current focus - ie. when you have
just changed tabs, but if you tab to select the tabs then change tab, it will
not freeze.
Also tested with the latest Git.
There is on terminal output, other than the fixme printed at startup:

Summary: IOCTL_SERIAL_WAIT_ON_MASK does not always return correct
answer
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.46.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tombrus(a)gmail.com
The io_control() function with IOCTL_SERIAL_WAIT_ON_MASK in dlls/ntdll/serial.c
does not seem to always return the equivalent status as windows.
Unfortunately I only have an proprietary windows application (no source) that
shows this. It is an application called FanControl shipped with a water cooling
control unit from Innovatek (germany). The application controls the unit via an
USB FTDI serial port. The application only works if there is such a device
available. Rather difficult to reproduce on the average system :(.
The fix is to remove a few lines of code from the wait_on() function:
*events = check_events(fd, commio->evtmask,
&commio->irq_info, &commio->irq_info,
commio->mstat, commio->mstat);
if (*events) goto out_now;
where the 'if' is the essential bit. The status returned to the caller will be
zero when the check_events() returns something. This seems to confuse the
windows application. When the above lines are taken out the returned code is
always "STATUS_PENDING" and the handling through wait_for_event() will always
return the right things to my windows application.
The code mentioned above looks like a shortcut to avoid starting a workitem
with RtlQueueWorkItem(). My feeling is that this shortcut is not always valid.
I will attach a patch.

Hi,
I wanted to run EURO-Fahrschule 2007, a German program which helps you learning
for your driving license.
The installation went well.
After that I tried starting it.
The starting window appeared and the little sound has been played (choppy
though, but this is not of interest for me and we can let that out) - see
screenshot one.
After that the GUI should change it's look and the program ought to ready to
use - like in screenshot two (taken from Microsoft® Windows®™ XP.)
But this never happens. Instead, the application seems to hang and use 100%
CPU, which lead me and other people to the conclusion that Wine is running into
an infinitive loop.
I tried to put a little mark in the near of where the program finished playing
the sound.
I hope that can be fixed.
Have a nice day,
-Ionic

Often in Portal, instead of seeing through a pair of portals, you end up seeing

It would appear that the clipping plane/frustum (whatever) when the portal is
rendered is modified with respect to the player's position in Portal; or
perhaps it *isn't* modified and is instead rendered with the same clipping
frustum as the main viewpoint.

Starting the game once the setting is changed to windowed mode works fine; the

Summary: Wine supplants system menu in child window title bars
Product: Wine
Version: 20050830
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-debug
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: frogbarf(a)telus.net
Pegasus 4.41 (and other versions) uses child windows to display specific
categories of information relating to email. Examples: a list of all email
folders. All the messages in a specific email folder. A display of email
messages waiting on the smtp server. A message editor for composition of a new
outgoing email.
Each child window is controlled by a system menu at the left of the title bar,
and three icons at the right of the title bar. The system menu normally
includes move, restore (to previous non-maximized size) minimize, maximize,
close, switch (to another child window). It also lists keyboard shortcuts for
many of these actions. The three icons are minimize, restore or maximize, and
close.
Running Pegasus as a window-managed application, Wine replaces the child window
system menu with one of its own in which the shortcut for close is ALT-F4. In
native Windows operation, the child window close shortcut is CTRL-F4.
If you key CTRL-F4 in a child window, nothing happens. It is not a valid
shortcut under Wine.
If you key ALT-F4 in a child window, the program itself exits, not just the
single child window.
If you click the close/exit icon [X] in a child window the entire program
exits.
Evidently the exit icon is linked to the close option in the child window's
system menu.
It also appears that some child windows that close automatically also use the
close option listed in their system menu.
It isn't clear to me if the bug is (a) that Wine supplants the native child
window menus or (b) that Wine does not implement a CTRL-F4 (close child window)
shortcut or (c) that the Wine child window menu does not include CTRL-W for
"close".
The effect is that once you open a child window in Pegasus, you cannot reliably
close it without exiting Pegasus altogether; also that auto-closing of some
child windows causes program exit.
In unmanaged mode, bug #1798 causes its own problems.
CTRL-F4 is the Windows equivalent to CTRL-W, which has no effect.
This behavior is not entirely consistent; sometimes you can use the [X] exit
icon to successfully exit a single child window without shutting down the
entire program. I can't tell if this is true inconsistency or because some
child windows are (perhaps) programmed differently from others.

Those are some reports after testing the free-downloadable demo of PES 2008

The game installs well and runs if well configured as mentioned in Application

problems in some hardware I think:
1) Running it with ATi fglrx drivers (free radeon ones aren't usable at all) on
my rv350 card (mobility radeon 9700) there are resolution errors (if I set it
to 640x480 the size is something like 400x450).
See attachment for a shot.
2) In some cards (nvidia from my tests) it freezes while loading some textures
(both in menus and/or in game) with these errors (tracked on low/medium/high
quality runs):

A workaround to this problem is setting "OffscreenRenderingMode" Direct3D
setting to "fbo"
3) Using fbo OffscreenRenderingMode some scenes (Replays, Corners,
GoalKicks...) can't be seen using Medium or High quality (no problems using low
quality, instead). Durning these moments, in fact, I can see only a light-blue
screen with a small square in, showing a part of the game.
Some relevant (I think) logs are:

You can see the attached shot for understanding in a better way.
4) Freezes on closing: when exiting from PES the screen becomes black, but the
application doesn't terminate (it seems an audio problem, since util I kill the
process my sound-card emets a vibrant sound).
Sorry but I can't take a log...
6) Gamepads can't be used inside the game... Also if wine finds my pads (and
they works with other games [i.e. FIFA 08]), I can't use them in menus.
I don't know if this is a wine or PES bug btw...

According to MSDN, CreateFile can be used to obtain a handle on a device on
which DeviceIoControl can be performed. Also, code in

However, wine always fails with error code 2 (file not found). The following

I've tested their code both on native winxp and win98. It works fine on winxp

the left channel.) The buzzing is continuous, but the volume seems to vary
with the music: it seems that the buzzing suddenly gets louder after low notes.
(You might have to wait a few seconds before the buzzing becomes obvious on
the title screen.)
Note that the audio file itself is fine: it's a regular MP3, and it plays
without any buzzing in VLC. Also, there doesn't seem to be any buzzing with
the music disabled.

The box is supposed to close with the command Transfer, which is supposed to
copy the text into a buffer and paste it into the current application, wherever
the cursor was before DB was opened.
The Dictation Box opens correctly, and text enters correctly. But the Transfer
command does not place the text in any buffer at all -- the text just
disappears, and DB with it.
I have tried to paste into both DragonPad and Notepad. Neither works, although
both should.
I have run the program using a terminal. There is no output when the Transfer
command is made.
This is the terminal output when DB comes up.

The normal terminmal output probably isn't useful for this as it doesn't

if ((device = strstr( entry->mnt_opts, "loop=" )))
{
char *p = strchr( device + 5, ',' );
if (p) *p = 0;
return device + 5;
}
}
I'm not sure if this has any advantage, but it has a big inconvenient. It's
almost certain that /dev/loop0 is owned by root and not world-readable, and
it's also mostly certain that wine isn't being run as root. If the image is
user-owned, by using the loop device we lose the ability to read it.
This typicaly causes breakage that is difficult to figure out. For example,
see
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=727&iTestingId…
Note: I'm filing this separate from bug 10957 because it's an unrelated issue.
The patch I'm attaching here collides with the one I sent for bug 10957, but
takes both situations into account.

When there is a continous source nearby and I look left or right from it, the
L/R channels are supposed to change volumes. However this doesn't work properly
in Wine.
The channels are of same volume when looking directly at the source. Then say I
look away left from the source and the sound volume decreases on the left
channel and reaches its minimum at around 35 degrees away from the source. This
it the same as in Windows.
However when looking further away towards 90 degrees, in Windows the volume in
the left channel increases back to a certain point and I think it gains some
sort of effect. But not in Wine, in Wine the left volume just stays at the
minimal level.
This happens with both ALSA and OSS. Default rate is 44100, default bits 16.
Audio chip is Intel HD audio.

The gunshot sounds and other weapon sounds (reloads, switching guns,

same for both left and right channels.
I mean the L and R volumes change as I look around - looking in a certain
direction both channels are the same, and the volume shifts as I look more left
or right.
However the footsteps sound right.
This happens with both ALSA and OSS. Default rate is 44100, default bits 16.
Audio chip is Intel HD audio.
I've attached a log with +dsound - I started the game, loaded a savegame, then
shot a few rounds in each direction, first towards the source, than left,
right, and away from. Then I minimized it and hit ctrl+c.

The current handling of the numeric keypad is strange in two aspects:
1) The Decimal / Comma / Del key (key 104) behaves very strange: It produces
*both* a Backspace and a comma character on my machine, when Shift is active.
2) In general, the interaction with Shift is odd. This is a quite complicated
area. Windows, QT, GTK all uses different models, but Wine does not follow
either of them. I'm suggesting that Wine should follow the QT model, which has
also been implemented in rdesktop. For details, see
http://www.cendio.com/~astrand/keyboards/numpad.txt. Patch will follow.

Font size set to 12 in Delphi/WINE.
Hey all,
after the installation of Delphi worked without noteworthy problems, I am now
experiencing a couple of issues with WINE drawing/printing things, which might
be easily fixable due to the fact that they are just graphical problems.
First one: in Delphi one can set various font sizes for elements like Labels,
Panel and so on, which works fine in Windows. But WINE shows a strange behavior
here: when changing from font size 12 to 14 WINE does nothing, whereas in
Windows the font size really grows. Also, you could set the the size to 100 (I
did for testing purposes in the screenshots), but WINE does not change any size
but uses still the 12pt size, it seems that something is broken there within
WINE.
Well that's happening in the "designer" mode, but it seems to be the same on
runtime, so I guess there might be also other applications hitting that bug
with binary programs (Screenshots flagged with "Runtime") ...
Second one: properties changed in the object inspector should be bold when they
are not set to the default value. That's a nice feature which helps people to
see which property *they* changed and makes it easy to revert bad decisions.
However, WINE does not print them in bold font or anything
This bug is not limited to object inspector though, NO fonts in Delphi's
"design" mode are bold, even when set to that, but instead WINE ignores it,
even in the compiled program later on.
This does NOT hit the editor in Delphi which is able to show wonderful bold
text.
You can find plenty examples for this bug in the "Delphi-Size-xx" screenshots.
Third issue: that is a little bit more complicated indeed and might not be
easily to fix in contrast to the first ones.
As you may or may not know (at least you will see it) Delphi has something like
a box with verbose compiler messages at the bottom side of the editor.
Now one can double click on the first message and the editor is jumping to that
specific line where an error or a warning occured, setting the background of
that line to red for better visibility.
We fix that issue (or not ;)) and double click on the second entry in that
box... this time the editor should jump to the second error line and so on,
like above, but there are some problems with WINE.
When clicking on the second entry the editor is NOT jumping to the second
erratic line but to the first one and the first entry remains
"activated"/highlighted in that box.
It is possible to override/"fix" that behavior by clicking into that box one
time and then selecting the entry one wants to have a closer look at and THAN
double click on it/in the box.
Well, as that might be possible, it's not very comfortable and not the default
behavior and should be fixed as well. :)
So that are my three points so far, I could not find any other bugs yet. ;)
You will have some screenshots attached both with WINEs (version 0.9.51 with
that little msi patch of truiken) behavior and the one under a natively running
Windows (not on the same boxes, though, but that should not cause any problems)
in the next comment. (By the way, why does Bugzilla allow only one attachment
in the first Bug Commit?)
-Ionic
(The entries in the StringGrid you see there in two of the screenshots are just
plain fiction; neither the names nor the attributes given there correspond to
the reality. (I included this to prevent privacy legality actions.))

Summary: Eve-online video memory misaddressed
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.4.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scott.d.gray(a)gmail.com
I have only come across this problem running EVE-online. The mouse cursor is
not completely filled with black, it contains some stray colors. Many textures
are displayed intermixed with other bitmap data, I have even had small portions
of video from another app playing where there should be text or smoke texture.
I haven't seen any other posts regarding this, and I can't rule out my own
hardware. I have experienced this running multiple versions of Ubuntu,
currently running Gutsy 64bit and wine 0.9.46, with Nvidia (have tried
regressing drivers).

Summary: Thief: Deadly Shadows mouse gets stuck after
encountering barriers
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor

Component: wine-directx-d3d

ReportedBy: ehoover(a)mines.edu
Thief: Deadly Shadows locks the mouse (intentionally) when you encounter a
barrier such as a wall. Unfortunately, when this lock is performed under Wine
it does not get released after you move away from the barrier. The lock stays
there until you open a menu; however, this can be worked around by assigning
keystrokes to rotate the player left and right.

Summary: GetKeyNameText returns different text from Windows
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.46.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: djq(a)kerridge.com
In our app we generate accelerator text using the virtual key code of the
accelerator key and a couple of shift flags. e.g. a menu item's text would say
something like 'Do Stuff CTRL+D'
Under Wine for certain keys which appear both on the left and right of the
keyboard, in this case Alt, Shift and Ctrl. The text returned is specific to
the left/right scan code. This differs from Windows.
So our menu item will read something like 'Do Stuff Control_L+D' which is a
little ugly and implies you have to use the left Ctrl key.
Code snippet:
TCHAR szText[64];
LONG lParam;
// MapVirtualKey returns the scan code for the left control key.
// Left shift for the call to GetKeyNameText
lParam = MapVirtualKey(VK_CONTROL, 0) << 16;
// The string returned by GetKeyNameText on Windows does not differentiate
// between right and left and is 'CTRL' or 'Ctrl' depending on the Windows
Version
// Under Wine it returns 'Control_L'
GetKeyNameText(lParam, szText, sizeof(szText)/sizeof(szText[0]));

I've tried using ies4linux but that seems to have trouble connecting over an

the game requires win2k or higher.
Trace is attached.

command line debugger output
I installed Mathcad 2000 Pro into a fresh wine setup. I can't get the
application to start. Trying to start from a command line resulted in a bunch
of debugger output. Seems wine can't or does not support the "msvcirt.dll" file
containing the ".??0ostrstream@@QAE@XZ" stream function.
I manually installed the "msvcirt.dll" file from a working and up to date
Windows XP Pro machine, from the "system32" folder, in to the local user's
".wine" folder under the same "system32" subfolder.
The application now starts and runs as expected.

There is a weird bug in tree control handling in Enterprise Architect (see
http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/support/faq/ea_on_linux.html for trial version).
Scenario:
- open test project (File->Open project, then open EAExample)
- there is an Project Browser window on the right contaning a tree control
- perform a delayed double click on some tree node (e.g. 'Project Model') - the
in-place edit mode is activated
- change the name of the node from 'Project Model' to 'Test'
- select the second node named 'Example diagrams' - this action is supposed to
quit edit mode and assign the new name to the first node
- instead new name is assigned to the freshly selected second node, so 'Project
models' become 'Test'
This bug is quite old - I've seen it on various Wine/EA versions.
