No need to resort to insults. If we don't want people to be able to confirm
bugs with votes, then perhaps we should adjust the needed votes to confirm or
change this feature. Calling users morons will just discourage people from
reporting bugs, which is the opposite of what bugzilla exists to do.

Yes. To reproduce, download and install the CSLU
toolkit, then run
wine "C:\\Program Files\\CSLU\\tcl80\\bin\\wish80.exe" "C:/Program
Files/CSLU/Toolkit/2.0/apps/rad.tcl"
See also bug 11062 for a bug in menu item creation (with fix).

Summary: Starcraft: segfault on battle.net login screen
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: join.together(a)gmail.com

Output from a crash when attempting to connect to Starcraft Battle.net
Whenever I attempt to connect to battle.net with Starcraft, the program either
hangs or crashes. When run from the terminal, wine reports a segfault before
hanging/crashing.
OS: Kubuntu 7.10
Steps to reproduce:
1: Set all configurations to default
2: Install Starcraft
3: Run starcraft, attempt to connect to battle.net
4: Download the patch
5: Once patched and the software has restarted, attempt to connect to
battle.net again.
6: The program should crash or hang upon hitting the login screen.
Wine output from the crash is included in the attachment.
I don't know what component this falls under, so I set it to wine-binary.

Summary: InstallShield fails almost consistently with 2
alternating errors
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: pacshady(a)gmail.com
While trying to install programs using InstallShield, the setup fails with one
of two errors, alternating between them each time the setup is run. The first
error appears immediately after setup is run, displaying this error dialog box:
The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched. (0x80004002)
The second error waits until the InstallShield Wizard loading bar has reached
full, and then displays this error dialog box:
An error occurred while parsing command line arguments or reading Setup.ini.
(0x80030070)
These will happen on alternating occasions each time the setup is run, for an
indeterminate period of time, until the user either gets sick of it or the
setup program loads up once and spontaneously works.

I think this relates even to the behavior of the Program glxinfo, wich breaks
with the message "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" under Ubuntu 7.10. Under
Ubuntu 7.04 it runs without a break.
I' am trying to find out more on the mesa homepage.

wine-0.9.52, Ubuntu 7.10, nVidia FX 5200
This report seems to be invalid, the application seems to work ok, I downloaded
the demo from here: ftp://ftp.maxon.net/pub/r95/demo/cinema_4d_r96_windemo.zip
It runs, I loaded some sort of scene, can zoom in and out and stuff. Yes I see
the reported message, but it doesn't appear to mean much.
Can't contact the reporter, their address bounces my email:
Technical details of permanent failure:

This can't be done so easily, as the resulting page can be changed by something
else than the actual bug (i.e. you login, you change your saved searches or
other options, changes to bugzilla itself and it's configuration).
If we want to do anything about this we would need to do any changes inside the
bugzilla project because it would require changes inside the bugzilla code.
Besides where does it hurt performance, I would have thought that it wouldn't
buy us anything worth it?
I would suggest to resolve this bug as "later".

The crash occurs on winex11.drv load after a kernel32.TlsAlloc call, most
likely in X11DRV_setup_opengl_visual(). Looks like something is wrong with

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000348 at address 0x7e6f25ec

The access-number (0x00000348) and the thread (0009) is allways the same, the

No Debugger starts, system hangs.
While the System hangs, i can get access from another Computer over the network

I can confirm that the OK and Cancel buttons aren't responsive on telm.cpl, but
the X on the window launched by clicking on BFTelnet Service in control closes
it.
Crashing doesn't appear to be isolated to bftelnet.
There also is a crash if wine control is closed while a control panel applet is
open
.
I tried some other control panel applets and a crash can be triggered if one is
open and control is closed.

Thanks,
I have a feeling that the insufficient memory message might have something to
do with GlobalMemoryStatus, possibly related to bug 10844, but I'd like to
check the disassembly/stepi through winedbg.
Do you know where I can get a copy of the version that you are testing with?

Hi Jeff,
I've just updated to wine 0.9.52.
Meanwhile I'm running a Ubuntu 7.10 on a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.66 GHz, still
on 32 bit, 3.1GB Ram and enough HD space.
I ran the installer and everything seemed to run smoothly. However after
launching the actual Genotyper executable (with wine) a message box shows up
which says:

Here is the basic error message from wine:

This means that winedbg has failed to attach to a crashed process. Please
create a log with +relay,+seh,+tid, compress it with 'bzip2 -9' and attach

Summary: Wine hangs on machines with Via Unichrome graphics
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.52.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: karllinuxtest.relton(a)ntlworld.com
Wine appears to be hanging and freezing X11 in Ubuntu Gutsy distribution on
machines with Via Unichrome graphics.
Even running wineprefixcreate is enough to cause the problem - needless to say
trying wine with any executable (e.g. notepad) then gives the same symptoms.
Wine hangs, and the X11 freezes (no mouse movement, no keyboard response). The
machine itself is okay - one can ssh in and kill the offending process which
then unfreezes X.
The offending process is rundll32.exe - which sits at 99% CPU.
Looking at Ubuntu forums, several other people have hit the same problem: see
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-584308.html
This happens on my PC with Via Unichrome graphics, my other two PCs (Nvidia and
Intel graphics) are fine.
I backtracked my install of wine all the way to the Feisty shipped version
(0.9.33), and it has the same problem. This suggests some interaction between
the graphics libraries in Gutsy and wine that was not present in previous
releases.
I'll attach a log with +relay. In that you will see there is a page fault (line
27514), starting debugger ...
The final couple of lines in the log I think occur when I kill the runaway
rundll32.exe process.
If I hide the winex11.drv.so file so that wine cannot load it, then
wineprefixcreate will complete correctly and wine can be used ... but of course
in text mode only! This confirms some interaction with the graphics that seems
only present when X11 is running its 'via' driver.
I am happy to try and help debug - but would appreciate pointers of what I
should do next, e.g. what channels to enable.

Sorry, I've been pretty busy for quite a while and then forgot about it. I
would not feel comfortable submitting this patch without the test code as well,
which is something that you did. So, I will submit my patch if you would
submit your test code patch (valid against latest git) with a title like "Fix
for WritePrivateProfileString [1/2]" and format the message along with it
something like this:
------
Real Name:
<your real name, not an alias>
Description:
Tests for WritePrivateProfileString error cases. These tests show a
problem with WritePrivateProfileString that prevents Thief: Deadly Shadows from
installing properly (see Bug #5024). Part 2/2 (to be submitted by Erich
Hoover) contains a proposed fix.
Changelog:
kernel32: Fix for WritePrivateProfileString [1/2]
------
By approaching the patch in this way it will have a much greater likelihood of
being included. The guidelines for submissions are rather spread out but a
summary of what helps is:
1) Only submit your own work
2) Submit all patches as separate emails with a plain text patch attachment
3) Explain the problem you are trying to fix (or the problem your test cases
covers)
4) Make all changes as simple and crystal clear as possible

if( (p = strrchr( progname, '.')) && !strcasecmp( p, ".bat"))
WINE_FIXME(".bat programs in pif files are not supported.\n");
I did look a little into the problem but did not see enough info to implement
it without spending a lot of time. The application that I have requires it also
uses a hardware key so I have to run that software on old system with Win 3.11
or Win 95.
