QT is critical to this program's function, so almost the first thing it does is try to kick off the QT installer; and this fails. Using the native MSI DLLs doesn't work either, as these work only under Win98, and this version of QuickTime only works with Win2K or above (you get a dialog complaining if the version is set too low). It appears that the installer is trying to run VBScript or something of that nature without first installing VBScript, and I can't figure out how to install that (I grabbed scripten.exe from MS, but it insists that it can't find anywhere to install itself and I haven't figured out why yet). (Output from qt installation run with DEBUG=msi attached.) After I first launched the game it claimed that d3dx9_25.dll could not be found. So I downloaded it from this url: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_25 I moved it to: ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/3000AD/Universal Combat/ I launch the game with this command: cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/3000AD/Universal\ Combat env WINEDEBUG=fixme-all WINEPREFIX="~/.wine" wine "C:\Programme\3000AD\Universal Combat\uc.exe" The game has to be launched from the install directory because otherwise it claims the the config files can not be found. After executing the command sometimes a black game window appears without changing and sometimes it does not. But the error messages from wine are always the same and can be found in the attachment. Both these apps have splash screens with transparent backgrounds, which are transparent when using Metacity. But when using Compiz Fusion, the backgrounds render black. I'm not sure if the component should be wine-gui or wine-gdiplus, so I guessed and selected the former. With shader distance turned on their is a few issues. First Issue is a clipping issue I believe. When shader distance are turned on and when you move your character you can see a translucent reflection of you. The reflection will be the spot you were at previously. Now when you enable bloom this graphic error does not happen anymore. Their is a error with this work around. With some zones with bloom enabled the whole screen will turn white. It does not have the shadowing effect like above where you have to move to see the error with the complex shader distance. If complex shader distance turned of this texture glitch does not happen anymore. Also, I found out a way to fix this graphic glitch. If you minimize the window and then resize the window this graphic issue will not happen until the game is rebooted. I think the pft9f95~tmp installer was for Adobe. I tried logging the install, and I did succeed, but +relay is 1 gigabyte *compressed*. All it's doing at the end is lots of variant twiddling and waiting. To work around bug 5541, you have to redirect the output of cscript.
