I've had a quick look around on the net but couldn't find a damn thing on how
to solve this issue and it's bugging me like mad...I've attached a log of what
came up.
At most basic, I've tried to install wine but without luck as seen in the log
attached.
Perhaps some other info that may help:

I'm playing WoW using a 64bit Ubuntu on a DualCore Intel Cpu.
The underlying problem is probably a race condition because you can reduce lock
ups by setting the linux scheduler cpu affinity mask to just one cpu.
schedtool -a 0x2 -e ./Wow.exe
Are those of you that have the same lockup using dualcore cpus?

Without empirical evidence, I'd agree with the comments in #14 even though I
cannot recall personally seeing the timeout stuff whilst inside the world. I
should run Wine WoW more often with stderr saved somewhere to check.

Areas with a great deal of objects tend to be where I have the problem. I do
have a number of UI mods as well. I never hit log-out, so none of mine occur in
that situation. I tend to get timeouts within the first couple of minutes of
entering the world while the textures and objects are still loading. I have
entire days without them, I have 3-5 minute intervals for 20-30 minutes in a
row, and I have one or two random appearances in the middle of a couple hours
of game play. No obvious rhyme or reason.
These are symptoms of the same threading problem(s), just different
manifestations.

I have been using this app all along and at one point had UI glitches but it
was a bad driver. I installed a nvidia FX5200 to replace the built in buggy
openchrome driver.
Dragging-resizing MDI child windows seem to be correct. I would say this could
be closed as a possible driver problem if the original reporter can't confirm
it is still a problem with other hardware.

I'd certainly state for the record that it appears the 'bug' is far more common
upon exiting from the world back to the character selection screen. I seem to
recall I've also had it when porting to another continent, or upon
entering/exiting instances, but for me the logging out of a character certainly
trips this up more often than not.
This may be because I have quite a few UI mods for the game, and when the exit
character routines start, the game saves all the UI info back to disk. This
makes me wonder if the hang may be related to some IO thing - albeit this is
merely a guess based upon no evidence whatsoever.

Via e-mail:
Sorry for the query, is it really fixed? I've checked with wine 0.9.53:
In "ApolFrac" choose from the menubar "color" and then "light", and the
four light controls should show up (without mouse click)?
Testing that in wine 0.9.53 shows that isn't fixed. The periodic table element
colors, however, show up fine.
Reopening.

I have this issue as well and would testify to it being a race. It either
occurs repeatedly, or seemingly randomly while the game is running. I'm using
wine-0.9.53 but have been experiencing this for at least the two prior versions
as well.
Warcraft's internal tracebacks and error logs (one of which I have attached)
show more than one variety of failure when this occurs. I'll attach other
varieties, if it will help. This one shows the stack trace as WoW.exe sees it
when an "unknown exception" occurs.
If WINEDEBUG would be helpful, some pointers for the appropriate debug classes
would be appreciated. 'all' is a bit much, even with opengl and dsound
disabled.
