I would still be interested in this bug being fixed, or at least discovered. Because the last known working version was around 2000, this would take too long to do a regression test. Would WINE from 2000 even compile on a 2007 version of Ubuntu? Wouldn't the number of shell environment items have increased dramatically in the linux environment? If this is part of the problem then a regression test won't help because the base environment is a moving target. To work this bug around, just copy e.g. ws2_32.dll fake dll to mfc42.dll (that would be v4.0.0.0 which is much lower than version sysupe checks for).
