hangs with

Summary: Notepad -- pressing "Return" key exits program
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: atl
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: susancragin(a)earthlink.net
There are sporadic problems with how WINE interprets hitting the "Enter" key.
When using the Windows version of Notepad, hitting the "Enter" key results in
the program closing out.
When using Dragon NaturallySpeaking, there is also a problem using an included
program called Dictation Box.
When using Dictation Box itself, text dictated into the box, including the
spoken version of "Enter" (which is "new-line") cannot be subsequently
transferred to either WINE's Notepad or Window's Notepad. Text does not
transfer at all to WINE's notepad. Text will transfer to the Windows Notepad
program, provided the text does not contain any "new-line" / Enter commands.

In 0.9.40 or so, combo boxes worked correctly for VB apps.
In 0.9.44, when trying to use the mouse to display the drop-down window for a
combo or a list in a VB app, apparently nothing is displayed. If the user
chooses to move the dialog window aside, the drop-down list will be visible. It
is now displayed under the window hosting the combo or list.
The supplied URL points to a VB app that demonstrates the regression.

This affects 0.9.53, but probably exists in previous versions as well.
http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/kernel32/kernel_main.c?v=wine-0.9.52#L…
Because GetTickCount uses GetTickCount64 which uses NtQuerySystemTime, the tick
count can jump backwards if the system clock is changed. Tick count functions
are supposed to be milliseconds since system start, and should not be affected
by the clock, or go backwards (aside from the wrapping issue on GetTickCount,
which is well known).

Summary: Autocad 2005 : many OLE/Activex problems
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: All

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ole32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: max(a)veneto.com
Well, I don't know if that's really a bug or many bugs at once... if somebody
can be more precise, please correct me.
1) Lisp command (vl-vbaload "vba-project-name") don't work. It tells
"Automation Error. Problem in loading DVB file"
Manual (non autolisp) command line "-vbaload" works as expected.
Notice that on windows machine both works.
No error/messages shown on console upon command launch.
2) VBA has problem on autocad objects declarations/usage.
For example, if I use :
Dim myDoc as Object
it does work (but of course you can't inspect object easily)
If I use
Dim myDoc as AcadDocument
it DOESN'T work, it tells something like "not yet supported".
Notice that on a windows machine both works ok.
3) Upon using some command that invokes OLE automation, CPU usage for autocad
(and wineserver) rises to about 50% for each of them (total about 98%). I've
got a 2 core machine, so it's still usable, but slows down everything. Stopping
the command don't help; closing ALL of active drawings does help, CPU goes to
2%, but on new drawing/open drawing CPU still raise to 100%, even with no
further OLE commands.
I guess all 3 above are related to each one, so I put on a single bug report.
Well, first 3 are by sure OLE related. Next one I don't know...
4) Opening Visual Lisp Ide from inside autocad don't allow to switch back to
autocad again without closing it. Well, you can select Autocad window, but it's
irresponsive. Upon closing ide, autocad becomes responsive again.
More, if you open visual lisp ide, then help system from it, then close visual
lisp ide, if you try to close help system autocad crashes. That don't happens
if you close help BEFORE closing visual lisp ide.

Summary: ok() test doesn't support nested calls
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: All
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P4
Component: testcases
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mmoss(a)google.com
When ok() (wine/test.h) is used recursively, the reported filename and line
numbers don't reflect the location in the code where the test actually failed.
For example, in dlls/kernel32/tests/change.c, the
ok(FinishNotificationThread(thread), ...) calls will report a line number
inside FinishNotificationThread(), where ok() is also used. This is because the
tls_data structure stores only a single filename and line number value, and
every call to ok() updates them to the "current" values.
Is it erroneous for test code to recursively call ok() (a quick test indicates
that this happens hundreds of times throughout Wine's tests), or should ok()
chain these values to handle recursive calls?

I suppose Wine could
1) use nvclock utility directly by running `nvclock -i | awk '/Amount/{print

256
2) use nvclock as a shared static library (nvclock/src/backend/* -> nvclock.a)

(nvclock/src/backend/info.c)

I would like a way to configure wine to only run a .exe if it's within a list
of "safe" paths, so that I don't have to worry about accidentally running
something nasty (like an e-mail virus that I extracted to get a better look
at).
I've seen WINE as the default file association for .exe files in at least KDE
and Gnome, so an accidental double-click is possible. It isn't really wine's
fault, but wine seems the surest place to counter the problem and this is
probably pretty easily to implement.

http://www.imgplace.com/users/sandbag/WINE_HL2_font_bug/1193774200.jpg
Going back to WINE 0.9.40 fixes fonts, but there are some game crash issues.
Version 0.9.40 is the last one which works, 0.9.41 introduces this font
problem.
Also Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One has this same problem with all
WINE versions starting with 0.9.41.
I'm using HL2:EP2 with SteamEmu and starting game with following command line:
wine hl2.exe -dxlevel 81 -steam -game ep2 -novid -console -heapsize 512000
Having extracted GCF-files has no effect on this, tested on HL2:EP1.
I tried to fix problem with following steps.
1) by copying HL2-fonts to KDE ".fonts" dir. They will show up on KDE and
Control Center, but this does not fix issue.
2) Deleting all duplicate fonts which are included with WINE from windows font
directory. No effect.
3) "Reinstalling" wine by deleting ".wine"-dir and recreating it with winecfg.
Installed only HL2: Episode Two. No effect.

The GFA-Basic (free download from http://team1161.googlepages.com/ )
interpreter works fine in wine (git from 2008/01/09), but its editor comes up
invisible (showing whatever window was behind it instead of a white background
with any text you type).
This is a fairly recent regression, it worked last time I tried (a couple of
months back).

2 regressions in Warcraft III The Frozen Throne 1.18 have occurred between
wine-0.9.59 and wine-0.9.61.
One of them is just an enhancement which occurred in 0.9.60. When starting WC3
the first time with a fresh prefix, the mouse seems to be used on a huge screen
that has WC3 in it's upper left corner. So you have to move the mouse a long
way up left until it appears on the screen where it always "jumps" a few
centimetres when moving (probably just due to the mouses sensitivity
limitations). When I start WC3 again, everything is normal. The main reason for
posting this is a possible(?) connection with the second bug.

For example, if I use :

If I use
Dim myDoc as AcadDocument
it DOESN'T work, it tells something like "not yet supported".
Notice that on a windows machine both works ok.

regedit requires that a continuation line starts with exactly two spaces.
If the number of spaces is not 2, it imports wrong binary data.
This bug affects the FAR Manager, namely, its encoding tables (localization).

for other European languages)

As far as I can tell the wine wininet does not implement cache. This in itself
would not be that troublesome but there is unimplemented function
InternetSetFilePointer that appears to rely on cache from the msdev
description, and I have no idea how to implement it without one.
It appears that a game updater relies on this function to cache a file
completely so that it can be read easily. It calls it with zero offset and the
second parameter from the end set to 2, and again with all parameters zero
except the fd.
It then proceeds to read the file with InternetReadFile and fails. The update
is carried out much faster in wine than on windows.

I highly suggest this

be merged with
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4051
As of now, they are handled as different apps, even tho they're based on the
same engine and display similar reactions/problems/bugs. Furthermore it
seperates the information found in both entries.
Therefore I suggest merging the entry for the addon with the original game. The
addon should be handled just as a seperate version.

Steps to reproduce:
1. install gpstrack
2. copy native hhctrl.ocx to windows/system32 directory
3. add hhctrl.ocx in winecfg to use only native dll
4. open gpstrack
5. press F1, browse through help

code.
Anyway to the bugreport:
Double and single quotes are not used properly anywhere in the code which
causes parsing slowdowns. Parser does variable interpolation in double-quoted
strings. Double-quoted strings should only be used when the string contain a
variable that should be parsed. Otherwise use single-quote.
I will be tracking those quotes in this bug and attach cvs diffs.

Hi,
A friend (CC'd) reports that WINE's D3DXVec3TransformCoord()
[dlls/d3dx8/math.c:1226] is producing different output to the native Windows
version. He narrowed the problem down to the function not taking a copy of the
input vector when the input vector and the output vector pointers are the same.
In TransformCoord(), when pout == pv, pout->x and pout->y are written and then
used immediately through pv->x and pv->y, respectively, resulting in completely
skewed output.
This most likely effects many other D3DXVec* functions too.

The solution is a small change to free_async_queue() in /server/async.c as

by one error or on the other hand fix it, as that seems to be currently the
case with MOUL on wine.

me thinking that a small popup warning that running Wine as root can cause
severe damage/etc and/or refusing to run as root would be a good idea.
Shouldn't be too terribly hard to implement, and could hopefully prevent some

Solution for wrong behaviour of RegGetValue
While configuration "The Bat!" for Wine I found out a problem with
"RegGetValueA" and "RegGetValueA".
In case dwFlags contains the Bits (RRF_RT_REG_EXPAND_SZ | RRF_RT_REG_SZ) and
not the bit RRF_NOEXPAND the function will return ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER. This
is wrong behaviour, because expansion will transform a result of type
RRF_RT_REG_EXPAND_SZ into RRF_RT_REG_SZ which satisfies the request.
This behaviour causes "The Bat!" to be unable to access some of its registry
settings, including the registration code. So it refuses to work after the
trial period expired and the code need to be entered manually every time the
program starts up.
Other programs may be affected ass well, especially because the flag RRF_RT_ANY
won't work.
I built a patch for wine 1.1.1 wich solves this issue. This patch applies to
advapi32.

The number of pixel formats which can be used in OpenGL is limited due to
constraints of the Wine X11 Driver. At Wine startup an X visual is selected
which is used for creating an X11 Window. This Window is in general reused for
OpenGL. In Windows OpenGL the pixel format is set when you want to use OpenGL.
(So in case of Wine we select a pixel format before actually setting up OpenGL;
second Windows OpenGL doesn't allow changing the pixel format).
Now thanks to the xcomposite/pixmap backends for child window rendering we can
enable multiple pixel formats. The use of those backends has performance
limitations, so far that reason only 1 pixel format is still offered.
We need to readd an X11 child window for the client area of the toplevel
window. This will help fullscreen OpenGL/D3D programs. For apps that use child
windows we use the xcomposite/pixmap backend.

GIT snapshot.
What I propose is a daily current GIT snapshot of Wine as a full .tar.bz2
archive and/or a binary xdelta/deltup patch against the latest released version
of Wine (diff is not sufficient as it cannot cope with binary data).

Summary: Wineinstall blocks midway through
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.55.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P5
Component: build-env
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: juhos(a)mbnet.fi
When installing wine with tools/wineinstall, it first runs configure, then asks
if you want to install system-wide, then runs make. This is wrong, because it
forces the user to stick around until configure is finished.
Instead, the question should be asked as a first thing when wineinstall runs.
This way, local (non-systemwide) installs could run to finish without further
user input, and even system-wide ones would only block just before actual
install.
Of course it would be even better to also ask root password (if needed) at the
beginning, but that might have security risks, based on how it is implemented.

I've attached the console output but there doesn't appear to be anything that

Crash log and backtrace
Hello,
Imagenomic Noiseware Community Edition 5.2 needs a real implementation of
GdipCreateHBITMAPFromBitmap to work. The stub present in Wine 0.9.52 is not
enough and causes a crash.
With the stub, the application crashes when the user tries to open a file to
work on.
I attached a log.
For your information, adding gdiplus.dll in Wine c:\windows directory corrects
the problem and seems to make the application working just fine.
It seems that this application is not the first one to need
GdipCreateHBITMAPFromBitmap so it might be a good idea to implement this
function for real, unfortunately I have no idea of the way to do so.
Thanks

In newer wine versions, moo seems unable to access the directX surface for some

git bisect tracked the change down to patch
df891b823ac6801d7359d7e398d5fa8832607328 but I'm not sure whether the problem
is with ddraw itself or the d3d commands it ends up calling now (or even in the
game itself).
I'm afraid I don't know DirectX to judge the correct semantics, and quickly got
very lost when I tried chasing the call by eye, but if I can do anything to
help debug this, shout.

Proposed solution
Bug fix:
In Function MSVCRT_fputc from dlls/msvcrt/file.c, if there are no errors, the
same character that has been written should be returned, but the value should
be converted to an 'unsigned char' before will be returned. Otherwise e.g. if
input character = 0xffffffff, the returned value will not equal to 0xff, we
will
get EOF instead.
Small improvement:
In my opinion, the function MSVCRT_fputc flushes a buffer when get '\n' and it
is OK, but when the file is opened in binary mode this behaviour is unnecessary
and decrease efficiency.

Summary: Use of stdio functions in wine programs
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc4
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P1
Component: programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine(a)mkarcher.dialup.fu-berlin.de
Winelib applications get linked to native libc (not msvcrt), and thus use
native stdio. This is a problem if these winelib applications are run from a
wineconsole (user backend), as native linux libc does not send the output to
stdio to wineserver, but to the terminal wineconsole was started from. This is,
in my oppinion, an undesired effect.
Following programs use printf(...), fprintf(stderr,...)
- uninstaller
- msiexec
- regsvr32
- net
- winepath
- winetest
- icinfo
- taskmgr (in dbgchnl.c)
- expand
- wordpad (one error message that should never appear)
Following programs print correctly to the console
- reg
- xcopy
- winedbg
- cmd
- regedit (surprise!)
Following programs have commented (or #if 0) out printf(...), which should
probably get deleted or converted to TRACE debug logs messages.
- progman
I tested behaviour of all listed programs. The big surprise was regedit, which
correctly outputs to the console despite of using printf. Probably this is some
build option (it uses the msvcrt headers, for example).
If one looks at two programs that get it right, reg and xcopy, one sees the
functions reg_printfW and XCOPY_wprintf respectively, that do approximately the
same thing: Print a string into a wide char buffer (fixed length in both
cases!), and then try WriteConsoleW, if that fails, WideCharToMultiByte and
WriteFile(GetStdHandler(STD_OUTPUT_HANDLE),..). This function would have to be
cut-and-pasted into the other 10 programs needing it. I don't think this is a
good idea. (WCMD_output_asis_len is also a close match)
If the programs are crosscompiled to Windows/msvcrt, output is OK for all of
them, because msvcrt's stdio is not based on unix/posix/K&R stdio, but on
WriteFile(...)
How to handle this issue?

I want wine to be able to play Audio CDs digitally if an app wants to play from
the Audio CD.
Some old games like Tomb Raider 2 play music from the CD, but if you don't have
earphones connected to your CD-ROM and you don't have an analog audio cable
between CDROM and Soundcard, you won't hear any music (or cutscene sound, which
are also audio tracks in Tomb Raider).
