Please inform me of the exact procedure of the fix (or anything that may advance the situation) and I will gladly do what you ask. Now, on to the problem. I load up Ace Online with WINE 1.0-rc3 and it brings me to the launcher. I type in my login details, select my resolution (which is 1024 x 768), uncheck the "windowed" check box (which appears to have no effect on the output), and wait. The game goes full screen and is white for a few seconds. It switches to black, then, after about 10 or 15 seconds, a white square appears in the middle of the screen. It disappear within a few frames of appearing, and I'm stuck here. Same thing happens when windowed, it just isn't full screen. During this process, it seems to be outputting every single mission log in the game to the debug window. The output file is extremely long. Now, my setup: I'm running WINE 1.0-rc3 with DirectX9.0 installed using WineTricks. I'm running a 1024x768 virtual desktop with no window decorations and window manager can not control the windows. My PC: Intel Pentium 4 1.6GHz 512MB RAM (not sure on what type >_>) ATI Radeon 9700 pro 128MB onboard RAM using latest Catalyst drivers running 3.5.6-9.fc7 Fedora release: 2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 While I await a response, I'm going to attempt updating Fedora since it's apparently an older version. I have experienced this twice now (out of two attempts at playing a game). I was playing normally, and noticed no apparent trigger that caused the crash. Both crashes happened at around 10 minutes into the game (although I didn't accurately time them). Using native dinput.dll due to bug 13290. But when I click on the Add a Chapter button and choose anyone in my list of people listed, the program completely crashes. It doesn't matter if I choose Pedigree Chart, Scrapbook, Photo Tree or any of them. They all go to a list of people that you can select from and all of the entries will crash the application after you click on one of them. Installation is ok, and starting the app is okay, but when I click the menu, it gives me an exception: c0000005 at address 004749B5. It seems to copy about seven cabinets before failing with a Visual C++ Runtime Library error copying the AccuRenderRedist cabinet (at 1%, file SUPPORT\user.mlib ?). I have listed the test results at http://test.winehq.org/data/4ece5deeeffa22b66e0a5777b6f700251a0fb691/#group… as igoddard_laptop (original code) and igoddard_lap_amend (amended with a "return depth;" line). Program affected for me is Enterprise Architect. The version length is rounded to DWORD boundary - this needs to be taken into account (crash on some assemblies). Also the CLR metadata tables offset calculation is not correct. A good crash candidate is "Microsoft.mshtml.dll", the primary interop assembly (PIA) for mshtml.dll A good source of information about PE CLR data structures is here: http://www.ntcore.com/Files/dotnetformat.htm You might also want to have a look at CFF explorer, one of the rare PE tools which support .NET/CLR metadata: http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php If you use it on assemblies with large amount of CLR metadata, like Microsoft.mshtml.dll PIA, it might take lots of time to parse all tables. It gives you all the info (metadata table offsets/RVA's) for verification of calculations. I wrote my own little test which just calls fusion's IAssemblyCache_InstallAssembly on assemblies to verify my findings/patches. I'll leave out any patch snippets to give potential patch implementor full freedom. For testing purposes you can use the "Office 2003 Update: Redistributable Primary Interop Assemblies" from Micro$oft support which is available for download (see URL). Extract and run 'msiexec -x O2003PIA.msi'. Extract them from the hotfix installer to have version match. This seems to work around the hotfix issues/catalog problem. Kernel is 2.6.24.3-50. I used Add/Remove Software to install Wine 0.9.56. I then installed, without issue, Movie Magic Screenwriter 6.0. The program's start-up icon was copied to my desktop. When I click on the icon, I get the following message: Initialization Error: "This software requires installation of device driver TPkd and a reboot before running. Please reboot or reinstall the software." The above-mentioned driver is installed at ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/drivers/TPkd.sys A reinstall and/or reboot has no affect. When I run it from the command line, there is error output, which I have attached as a plain text file named "WineError.txt". The first line of the file displays the command entered to start the program. If someone can tell me how I can prevent those messages from appearing that would drop the size of the output. One more thing to note: I tested for the same bug with Acrobat Reader V7.0.9 -- which is available for free from adobe.com -- and I see the exact same bug, with the exact same console output. This leads to infamous timeout problem (30 sec) and service startup failing. In case of Microsoft Debug Manager the service is called "mdm" (registry). The service process itself passes "Microsoft Debug Manager" as name to dispatch table (see first trace). Problem: how can both sides communicate a "common" name for named objects? The service dispatcher part on the service side has only dispatch table data available which doesn't help much. I thought about this problem and found a feasible solution ... well call it "hack" whatever. If the client side API passes the service name in one of the process startup parameter members before process creation, the service process' dispatcher routine is able to access this data and create the named objects used for communication. I (ab)used startupinfo "title" member because only wine itself make exclusive use of most service process startup parameters. If not considered safe, use reserved/undoc fields... With that patch applied the services in question start fine and can be controlled using "net" commands. First, you have to set your language to German, e.g. LANG=DE_de.UTF-8 or it commplains about a language mismatch. Then, you have to set your Windows version to NT 4 with winecfg, else it complains that it needs Windows NT 4 or higher. Then it installs. The font in the installer is almost too tiny to read, even with corefonts installed. It first silently installs the Access 2002 runtime libraries and Jet 40, and those subinstallers aren't particularly happy; they both end with err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"InstallFinalize" returned 1627 but the main installer continues blindly. It asks if you want to keep the existing version of some wine dll; I said yes. MSDN description: "The FD_WRITE network event is handled slightly differently. An FD_WRITE network event is recorded when a socket is first connected with connect/WSAConnect or accepted with accept/WSAAccept, and then after a send fails with WSAEWOULDBLOCK and buffer space becomes available. Therefore, an application can assume that sends are possible starting from the first FD_WRITE network event setting and lasting until a send returns WSAEWOULDBLOCK. Unfortunately, it seems that in Wine 0.9.48 (and a few earlier versions too) this event is raised every time it is possible to write to the socket. I've created a simple test program (FD_WRITE-test.c) that shows this problem. When clicking outside the popup with Wine, Wine generates a beep through X11 (I believe this happens since a WM_SETCURSOR with HTERROR is generated). The software as a development value is a crap, the developer have programmed it with Visual Basic, have used ActiveX to attach IE to a tiny square so it can display the Validation image, instead of just comunicating via http, have a banner in the middle and a lot of cuestionable choices. But it is very usefull and there isnt any linux similar tool. It implements a custom Contact list, which is the one that is causing troubles, everything else works fine, it can send SMS's correctly and IE-ActiveX doesnt makes any issue. When adding a contact and after filling all the information required (Name, Cellphone Company, and Cellphone Number), and clicking start, the window should close and the name should list on the contact list, but it doesnt close, then clicking again on OK gives a warnning saying that the contact already exist, and endeed it was added, so to close the wine i have to press Cancel. Then i can use the contact list normally with any issue, but after closing TSM and launching it again, it stays on an unuseful load-screen. Then to get back TSM it is necessary to remove the created contacts, This is done by deleting the registry key: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-4\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\TSM\Agenda1.0 But copying the cellphones all the time is not a very good aproach. When two instances of a script such as the following are run concurrently, the first child wine processes started by each of then run together, but in one of the scripts that child doesn't fully exit until the _other_ script has completely run and exited. (The Wine process terminates, but the pipeline doesn't complete and so the script doesn't continue.) When run thus it does work, however; it tries to create an instance of a wuapi.dll class, which is not registered in Wine. When I use a native dll from XP and register it the console output changes saying no instance could be created. Terminal output is attached, it seems a sound problem (fnx_sound_ds7 ?) (note. Sound does work in the intro). I used several sound-drivers, all crash with the same error. Wine version 1.10 on Ubuntu 8.04 with: Nvidia Driver 173.14.05 (nvidia-glx-new-envy from ubuntu repos) on a Dell Latitude D830. If I can provide more info somehow, I'll be happy to. PS. There are *many* issues left when it comes to managed (JIT) vs. unmanaged (native) API code bridging. To iron out all the bugs, many different applications are needed which cover the whole range of .NET Framework. For many (string) resource based stuff to work, a unicode OS casing table is required. The table for the invariant version is built from external .NLS file. To make story short: wine does not ship the default case mapping table for unicode characters: "l_intl.nls". This is a "must" requirement and failure results in early TypeInitializationException while setting up default application domain. Short fix: copy the file from your windows system32 directory to wine system32. Long run fix: let wine generate/install this file. Not a big deal.
