I recently upgraded to wine version 1.0rc1 and also rc3
The base system is Debian Lenny w/ kernel 2.6.24.1 running Gnome or KDE desktop

unplayable
after applying BZ patch 1.3 keyboard works but still have sound problems
The intro and movie sounds work but in game sound and effects don't
I didn't have any problems with wine version 0.9.54 or 0.9.58 in this
application.
I have tried ESD, OSS, ALSA sound options

Warcraft III Frozen Throne seems to lock up at opening screen til Movies
directory is removed, haven't got to test further.
I haven't got to the network play yet.

Screenshots and scarangel error file
Hello,
I have been using ScarAngel v2.5 in Ubuntu 7.10 for months Ok (of course
ScarAngel works also Ok in Windows XP), with previous version of Wine (I think
it was Wine 0.9.54).
However, in Kubuntu 8.04, with the 0.9.60 version of Wine, ScarAngel
v2.5 always crashes (while starting). Not matter if I try to start it
from the NTFS Windows XP partition, but also it crashes if I download
this eMule mod to (and try to start it from) my home directory in Kubuntu.
Here I attach you 2 screenshots and also the error file made by ScarAngel.
Otherwise, the eMule v0.48a works fine in Kubuntu 8.04 with the latest
version of Wine. Anyway, I do prefer to use ScarAngel as it's better
the ScarAngel mod than the original eMule program.
Also I can't install previous versions of Wine in Kubuntu 8.04.

This has been a problem for a while, since wine is getting stabler for each
release, I would like to see this game (and other game using texture and dsound
similiarly) to run under wine:
The game is called Duo Princess, the trial version can be downloaded here:
http://egs-soft.info/product/duoprincess/duotry.lzh
There are two major problem that prevent this game from running:
Firstly, dsound does not work and will crash the game, the workaround is to
disable all sound in winecfg, and the game can be played for a while.
fixme:dmime:IDirectMusicSegment8Impl_IDirectMusicSegment8_Download (0x1b5468,
0x2826c18): stub
fixme:dmfile:IDirectMusicSegment8Impl_IPersistStream_Load : WAVE form (loading
to be checked)
fixme:dswave:IDirectMusicWaveImpl_IPersistStream_Load (0x2748c48, 0x28477e8):
loading not implemented yet (only descriptor is loaded)
Secondly, the texture cannot be loaded in the game. As a result, the game will
crash after a while.
fixme:d3d8:IDirect3DDevice8Impl_CreateTexture (0x124dc0) call to
IWineD3DDevice_CreateTexture failed
fixme:d3dxof:IDirectXFileImpl_RegisterTemplates

The game uses xfile (*.x) for its graphics. Other games that use similiar
structure (i.e. using xfile) will also fail in a similar fashion, such as:

Whenever I try to load the program, it crashes right away. In wine debug, it
says that dwmapi.dll.DwmGetColorizationColorisn't implemented. When I add
dwmapi.dll to the WINDOWS/system/ directory, the program loads fine.

The game crashes when you enter the car selection screen. Backtrace attached.
This is a regression; you used to be able to get in-game. Unfortunately, I have
no idea which version it stopped working in. My computer takes 3 hours to
compile Wine and that makes it so I can't run regression tests because they
take too long. If anyone else could run the test that'd be great.
Demo hints:(Not related to the bug)
The demo will crash on all subsequent runs after the install, but all you need
to do is run the demo.exe again before the wine virtual desktop disappears and
the game will run.

of Wine. Yet the about tab says I am running version 0.9.46
There are two driver configureizations in SFC2setupMFC, 1 software: mouse
behaves normally no mouse problem, however, the starship models in the game
have no skins, they are just white with no detail.
2 Directdraw HAL, game plays normally skins on models but mouse is highly
erratic, when I slow the mouse acceleration and sensitivity to the lowest and
slowest settings this helps but mouse is still erratic.
Mouse works fine in Ubuntu and all other applications.
I am using a USB mouse, I have tried other USB Mice so it is not just one
mouse, I have also tried a USB wireless mouse they are all erratic in the
Starfleet Command II game and only in this game.
I am new to a laptop and the touchpad is difficult for me to use. It seems that
without a mouse and just the touchpad the game is not erratic. In this case I
am the only thing that is erratic. Is there a way to disable the touchpad to
see if it is a problem when using a mouse and active touchpad in this game.
Thanks for any help Jim Collum LEC1313(a)Roadrunner.com

When using the ALSA driver with Heroes of Might and Magic II, there are two
major sound problems, probably related:
- Audio/Video is not syncronized in films: the audio lags behind
- When playing, the audio lags behind in such a way that when a sound effect is
played, you hear the one that was supposed to be played previously. For
example, the first sound effect in the game is replaced by a segment of the
intro film music. Next time a sound effect is to be played it will be the one
previously replaced by the film music segment, and so on.
With the OSS driver everything works fine (and ALSA works fine for other
games). The background MIDI music plays as it should.
Sound card: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS, emu10k1 driver
There is a demo version of the game; although it does not have films it might
be helpful.

This is a little Windows program used to generate sound effects:
http://www.cyd.liu.se/~tompe573/sfxr.zip
Run it and play with it for a little while (space to play sound). After a
little while -- the exact period varies, but it's usually within a couple
minutes, sometimes a bit longer -- the contents of the window spontaneously
moves to the top left of the screen (ie the root window), escaping its window
frame, and the window contents will stop updating. The program still runs and
works fine in its original window frame, as can be verified by modifying
sliders (blindly) and playing the sounds, though file windows won't pop up.
Usually I also get this message in the console when this happens:
err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)
This happens both with and without wine emulating a virtual desktop.

Instead, a window pops up saying that Programmer's Notepad has experienced an
unexpected problem and must close. It then asks you if you'd like to save a
diagnostics file. If you select "No", the program crashes. If you select yes,
it will tell you it saved the file and close normally.
I'm guessing that since you can close it without crashing that the crash is a
separate bug, so I won't include a console log with the crash info unless one
of you guys need it.
And before anyone asks; yes, the search function does work in Windows.

This is a bit difficult to explain, but I'll try anyway.
Some of the games created with so-called "Klik products" (available on
Clickteam.com) switch to fullscreen mode when they start. This is no problem,
except that the following happens: the position where you see the mouse is not
the same position as the game reads the mouse position in. The actual mouse
pointer is always ~100 pixels below the things happening in the game.
Example: there's a button. You want to click it. You can't, it doesn't do a
thing. You move the mouse a bit lower in the application. Suddenly, you CAN
click the button, even though your mouse pointer is ~100 pixels below the
actual button.
I don't know of any other way to test this bug than to play a Klik game.
"Eternal Daughter" on http://www.derekyu.com/games.html does this thing when
you press escape during gameplay and try to press "continue" or "quit".
(Side note: small graphical glitches tend to occur when I move my mouse lower
than the visible screen.)

Hi,
I am trying to modify my windows program to run on Linux. After much trial and
error, I got it to run for the most part, but one thing. My program
communicates over TCP/IP (LAN) through Winsock. I've written Client and Server
communication for my program that also handles socket errors. Part of that
includes reconnection based on the socket error or exception handling. Anytime
the sockets disconnect unexpectedly, for instance, by host or server program
crashing or disconnecting, my program is supposed to trigger on the exception
and try to reconnect. It works exactly the way I described it on the Window,
but on Linux under Wine my program doesn't reconnect by handling the exception.
Under wine my program acts like it never saw the socket error exception but
when the program is started from scratch it works. But once the host is
disconnected while client is connected, it doesn't handle the exception.
My program must handle these exceptions or it will not work right. Am I doing
anything wrong or do I need to update wine?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Thaya,

Summary: WebBrowser.Stop Stub causes crash
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.54.
Platform: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: shdocvw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: fossi(a)iname.com
CC: fossi(a)iname.com
Currently WebBrowser.Stop is implemented as a stub, returning E_NOTIMPL.
At least with Titan Poker this causes the application to crash whenever one of
it's windows is closed.
I figured that stopping the 'webbrowser' from loading might not actually be
crucial to the operation of this (or most other) programs, so i just tried
returning S_OK instead. And that actually 'worked'.
I didn't check for any memory leaks caused by this and i guess for some other
apps it might not be a valid fix either, but i couldn't figure out what the
correct behaviour would be inbetween all of the rarely documented code.
I hope this does at least help somebody around here. It does at least make me
happy (finally being able to play poker on linux ;)).
If somebody could point me in the direction of a more suitable fix or if i
should submit this as an official patch, i'd be willing to do that as well.

Sega Smash pack II is having some resolution problems. This problem has been

Gameplay is meant to take up the whole screen at a somewhat low resolution.
While the game takes up a whole screen, (It's all black as if it was
fullscreen) the actual game, menus, and other things are only displayed in the
upper left-hand corner of the screen. It seems that the screen isn't resizing
resolution properly.
Effects such as fading in from white at the start logo affect the whole screen,

* Download and install the demo.
* Start the game with wine "RTK XI Demo.exe"
* Start the "Country Basics" tutorial
* Click through the conversation
* Scroll around until you get obviously corrupted graphics, like in my first
picture. May be right away, may be after scrolling/zooming/panning a bit. Not
completely reproducible.
* Go into options, change the z depth of the game resolution (1024x768x32x16 to
1024x768x32x24, for example)
* Corruption is gone.
... something using uninitialized data? Perhaps we provide an uncleared buffer
to the game of some sort?
Nvidia 7950/G71, drivers 169.12. No native dlls, the game seems to be using
plain d3d9.

Please file a bug for this at http://bugs.winehq.org
Per his suggestion, I found that starting from scratch with everything (new
.wine and fresh XNEWS directory) yields a working XNEWS. Since there is no
XNEWS install, per se, and I'd previously forced .wine to be recreated from
scratch, this shows that some XNEWS setting can cause wine (through 1.0rc4) to
lose the panel icon for the running program. Not good, but since a completely
clean install restores order, it's not critical for me. For others who have
more invested in an already installed program set, it might be much more
intrusive.

MaCom2.dll is a library providing functions for building ecological forest
models developed by H. Hildenbrandt and U. Berger at the Centre for Tropical
Marine Ecology in Bremen, Germany. MaCom2 is not open source at the moment but
is freely available on request from the authors.
Library functions are called from a user-supplied script (using, e.g., Python)
via DCOM.
Here is what I do to install it:
- install python2.5 + pywin32
- register the dll (gdiplus.dll has to be available when doing this)
regsvr32 MaCom2.dll
- call the script, e.g.
ulf@ulf-pc:~/src/MaCom2/python$ ./SimpleForest_3species.py

Wine app (Miranda) is running on a larger right screen, but only left 800x600
region is correctly drawn. (See screenshots. Note that last correctly drawn
pixel is at (799,599), counting from zero). If I drag a window to upper left
corner, it draws itself correctly. If I change something inside a window, it
may draw something in that region.
May be a Compiz bug, btw. But it happens only with Wine for now.

console log for starting and exiting
DealBook 360 is a client for Foreign Exchange and CFD trading, provided by GFT.
It is available from their site, and selecting offline mode will let you into
the client without an account. Free trial accounts are available and may be
needed for full debugging, i don't know.
After the login window login, the client starts and pops up two Exception
windows. (Class: OLE error 80004001 Type: EOleException) I'm not sure if this
is the main problem.
The client is missing most features, attempts to access them though it's menus
generate the same exception window.
Neither wine nor dealbook 360 crash, it just doesn't work.

Summary: HyperChem 8 (Student Edition) product activation fails
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.56.
Platform: PC-x86-64
URL: http://www.hyper.com
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sirjasonr(a)gmail.com
HyperChem 8 (Student Edition) cannot generate a hardware-specific "locking
code" which would normally be sent to the vendor for generation of an
activation code. The program does not crash, but it simply returns "0-0" as the
locking code which indicates that wine cannot accesss the areas of the system
that would normally return unique serial numbers from which the locking code
would be generated. The program uses SentinelLM code for it's licensing
platform.
How do I narrow down which devices/files the program is trying to obtain data
from?
Go here for some application screenshots (although they're probably not useful)

Summary: App creates popups but fails to write expected text
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.55.
Platform: PC
URL: http://wxtide32.com/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: n5470(a)pinefields.com
Under Windows, WXTide32 creates at least three popup windows with text in them.
Under Wine, the popups are created in the appropriate places on the screen,
but the contents of the popups is always blank. The sizes are consistent with
their Windows equivalents and both have pale, white, or gray backgrounds. It
is the contents of the popups that is the problem.
Tide station map popup: this popup should contain the name of the tide (or
current ) station closest to the cursor, when it passes over indicated tidal
stations on a world map. The names are extracted from a database of tide
stations and are shown in a scrolling window created as part of the tidal
station selecton process. That is, the names are known to the app. They are
not shown in the popup.
Tide status popup: left-clicking on the main window's tide graph in graph, or
realtime format, in any one spot, should produce a statement of date, time, and
tide level information in a popup. It does not.
Tide prediction time popup: under the realtime format, it's possible to create
two intersecting lines (a horizontal line at some tide level and a vertical
line at some time of day, respectively, intersecting at the tide level point
for a given date and time, and bounded by the inside of the window frame). A
popup with the time of day is attached at the top of the vertical line, with
the popup's left vertical side directly adjacent to the vertical line and the
top, horizontal side flush with the inside of the window frame. The popup is
drawn, its contents are not.
Bug 11562 and Bug 11714 report, respectively, the Tide status popup and Tide
station map popup bugs separately. However, it's highly likely that all three
popup failures point to a common bug or shortcoming in Wine and, therefore, it
may be more productive to treat the three popups as instances of a class of
problems instead of distinct, separate problems.

backtrace
Hi,
I installed succesfully WSOP2008 with wine. When trying to run it I had to
copy manually d3dx9_35.dll to the program directory, for it not to complain
about missing library.
After that the program as soon as I run it with an error calling
WineDirect3DCreate. I attach a backtrace the output (a backtrace + list of
loaded modules, etc..)
Thank you in advance for any help with this.
Cheers,
Simone

The app uses two windows. In the first window you can search for addresses and
choose them from a list. After double-clicking an address a new window opens
and shows the map for the selected address.
If you switch back to the start window and select another address it loads
correctly but the "map-window" don't move to the foreground.

With 0.9.46 and 47 clicking on links no longer works inside Bridge Base.
Versions 0.9.44 and 0.9.45 work. Many features in Bridge Base have a link that
opens a browser.
The easiest featrue to test is the 'HELP' button on the lower right, clicking
should open an external browser. More relevantly, to use the pay features of
the site conveniently also requires an external browser. The pay features can
be used without a browser but require many more steps and some knowledge of the
layout.
