Freelancer will run, with native dpnet and probably some other directplay dll's, however when entering space it will randomly stop transmitting packets. I tried the game without patching it to 1.03 first. Sound wasn't working. I then patched the game to 1.03 and disabled movies and turned of hardware mouse. I also ran it in a virtual desktop. I am able to go through character creation fine. However, if I change graphics settings like anisotropic filtering or turn on soft shadows, or after completing character creation and loading the actual game, the game crashes. I'm not sure that this is a graphics problem, because during character creation, the actual character model is rendered. Another character model is also rendered at the main menu screen. Open a fullscreen application with WINE >=0.9.42 on one monitor (17") 2. Move cursor over to other screen and place focus (by clicking) on any other application. eg: Firefox browser Observed result: When placing focus on another application on one screen, the fullscreen application becomes minimized to the taskbar on the other screen and shows only the desktop. You are able to maxmize that application again and continue as normal, but this means that you cannot have a fullscreen application open on one monitor while working on the other. Expected result: In builds 0.9.41 and prior placing focus on another application did not alter the state of the fullscreen one. Workaround: When running applications in windowed mode instead of fullscreen, I do not have the same issue. ============ Setup: Gentoo (2.6.21-gentoo-r4) AMD X86_64 NVIDIA-Drivers (100.14.11) using Nvidia 7900GT I am currently running fluxbox with Xinerama across two screens. One 17" @ 1280x1024 and another 19" LCD (widescreen) @ 1440x900. 17": I run fullscreen applications on this monitor (which happens to be World of Warcraft in this case, using WINE and rendered with OpenGL). 19": On this monitor I run everything else. I managed to pare down to the minimum relevant by not advancing to the first bit of dialogue. (there are several panels of narrative which display the rendering bug before the dialogue (text and voice) triggers the unrelated errors about ALSA buffer under/over flows) All the lines up to and including this one appear before you even click "Start New Game": fixme:dsalsa:IDsDriverBufferImpl_SetVolumePan (0x1a72d08,0x1bbc78): stub ...and the three successive lines saying this appear while it's in the process of shutting down: err:ole:CoUninitialize Mismatched CoUninitialize In other words, it's completely silent while doing the drawing for the incorrectly-rendered text. I did not apply the patch using patch, but applied it manually since I believe the file to patch has changed since. I added the patch-lines at about line 1019 instead of line 996.
