Summary: Hitman Contracts crashes on startup
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.60
Platform: PC

crash output. it's compiled from the git, yes. but it's exactly the same as
0.9.60
It seems to me that wine 0.5.59->0.9.60 update has broken Hitman Contracts.
I haven't tested the game on 0.5.59 but the people are saying it's working fine
on it. This could also mean, of course, that there's a problem with my system
but I bet the bug is on wine.
I'm attaching crash log right away.
Note: this is not a duplicate of the bug #7113. The game crashes even if you
use the game's OpenGL renderer in this case...

Normally, like any application with a single line text entry bar, mIRC will
allow for one to enter plenty of text into the single line text entry box.
However mIRC tends to scroll of plenty of text in the process if I recall. Due
to this, when the text reaches the far right edge, instead of scrolling, the
text is sent, whether it be to a channel or query window.

I have been interested in working on it, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
When I do start coding, I would like to not interfere with work in progress by
others. So, let me know where you are at if you are working on it.
Austin Lund, you mentioned that you have an idea for a proper implementation.
I was wondering what direction you were taking.
I will also share my thoughts on the implementation of windowless richedit
controls. The main goal being to use as much existing richedit code to
implement text services while minimizing the impact on using richedit as a
control.
These are the steps I think we need to take:
1. Create a ITextHost implementation for the richedit control.
1.5? This ITextHost implementation could be manually tested against native
richedit's text services to try to implement a richedit control.
2. Modify the richedit code to use the ITextHost implementation from step 1,
removing it's dependance on having it's own window. This could be done
incrementally, and could be tested for regressions using the existing richedit
test suite.
3. Implement the ITextServices interface by using the existing richedit code,
and swapping the ITextHost implementation created in step 1 with the ITextHost
implementation given by the parent window (provided in the call to
CreateTextServices).
Comments on this approach are more than welcome.

Yes, still an issue. I can reproduce it by running a memtest that occupies
enough ram so that starting wine makes the machine swap heavily or having
enough stuff open so that starting wine requires the machine to first swap
quite some stuff to disk.

This problem does not happen for me with Titan Quest: Immortal Throne on wine
1.1.5, nor in the demo.
A separate and probably unrelated problem exists with the demo which is always
black in my tests, I've never been able to play the demo in any wine version,
with any imaginable Direct3D options or virtual desktop on or off.
At one point the demo did exhibit this problem but not anymore, thanks to the
video memory guessing done in more recent wine versions - but the demo is still
not playable here, the full game is mostly playable.

Just checked, and it exited cleanly. Seems to have been fixed at some point.

So far there's no 1.1.6 in Fedora repositories, but the bug is still existent
in WINE 1.1.5:
# first terminal
$ mount -t cifs //127.0.0.1/ftp /mnt/tmp
tail -f /mnt/tmp/incoming.test.txt
# second terminal
$ wine cmd
‚ҐабЁп CMD 1.1.5
Z:\mnt\1\ftp\incoming>type test.txt
Sharing violation
ЋиЁЎЄ ЇаЁ ®вЄалвЁЁ 'test.txt'
Z:\mnt\1\ftp\incoming>type test.txt
hello world!
By the way, I see a new bug in the above: it seems CMD tries to speak Russian,
but the encoding is all wrong.

What is incompatible? Wine should work with FreeBSD...if not, file a bug. Works
(mostly) fine in PC-BSD 7, FWIW.
Closing this one as abandoned. Please reopen if you can test and it is still
present.

FWIW, it was closed as abandoned because a lack of response, not because the
Wine/OS version are old.
