Hello. I'm trying to play GunZ : The Duel.
Don't delete this bug because you think it's game related. It is not.
Why? Everyone got the game working. Except me.
I tried reinstalling the whole system and it crashed on a fresh install too.
I tried on my brother's computer and it worked without any problem.
All this make me think it's a hardware related problem but I need your help to
determine which of my hardware is causing trouble.
I explained my problem on GunZ page on Winedb:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=12057, it is the
comment called "Stack limits"
I hope you will find a fix, GunZ is the last game that makes deleting windows
from my computer impossible...
Sorry for english, I'm belgian, I did my best to write correct sentences...

Summary: Status bar of D3D9 app window disappearing

Problems to display status bar correctly.
After bug 9917 got fixed, the NES emulator Nestopia
(http://nestopia.sourceforge.net), D3D9 application, correctly shows the top
menu. Horever, the behavior of the status bar is still not right, disappearing
or partially displayed sometimes (eg: when switching from File to Machine
menu).
If I alternate between windows and the Nestopia window stay behind other apps,
then when I switch back to Nestopia the status bar reappears. If I minimize
Nestopia window, then restore it to its previous size, the entire window
doesn't redraw itself anymore and the menu becomes inaccessible, but I'm able
to close the app normally.
Roderick Colenbrander said at comment 8 of bug 9917: "Alexandre said that most
of the time the status bar is a child window, so it isn't this bug. Personally
I think it is likely some d3d child window bug".
So, I'm reporting this bug against component directx-d3d. I am really not
worried about this app in particular, but about other apps that may suffer
these issues.

the windows error displayed when game crashes
The game Klingon honor Guard will crash when it tries to play the ingame
videos. This should be the last bug before the game would be platinum as using
the nocd patch allows one to play through the whole game.
This won't work with the demo as it has none. This bug only affects the retail
version, I'd be happey to send it to anyone if needed.
This doesn't seem to be a cd checking bug as the game askes for the cd one
screen before and it works. Playing multiplayer also requires the cd to be in
the drive and that works just fine.
The 'play' cd simply contains avi videos and can be played in Mplayer.
i did this in win 98 mode as that mode best supports the game.
To reproduce.
Install game.
Apply 1.1 patch.
Start new game.

ReportedBy: tsalacinski(a)gmail.com
Monkey Island 3 works pretty slow with Wine 1.1.0.
It happens only in complex locations, where there is a waterfall etc.
COMI works very slow, even on my Core2Duo 2.53 GHZ (which is pretty good for
that game I think).
The strange thing is, when the screen is scrolling (eg. the character moves to
the other part of the scene and the scene is scrolling) it work properly. When
the scene is static (eg. no scrolling, only animated parts like waterfall or
rain etc) it works very bad.
In this demo you can see this when you are shooting with the cannon. A part of
walkthrough (on how to get to the cannon):
After the intro you'll find yourself captive in LeChuck's ship. Start talking
to the small pirate and you'll realize that it's your old friend Wally. Make
him see that he is no good as a pirate and he will soon drop his hook and
start crying. Pick up the plastic hook from the floor and pick up the ramrod
from the wall. Use the cannon and sink the four boats full of skeletons.
Thanks

The only way to fix it, is removing the ~/.wine directory completly.

Running real Java apps under the latest Sun win32 JRE on Wine
seems like a fine stress test, even though in many
cases users should run with the Linux JRE instead.
The Sun JRE and jEdit install ok, but jedit has many startup problems.
Here's the first one.
Invoking it with the batch file provided by jEdit fails.
Here's what's in the batch file:
start "jEdit startup" "c:\windows\system32\javaw.exe" -Xms64M -Xmx192M -jar
"C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.jar" -reuseview %*
And here's what happens when you run it:

So it seems that start takes an optional process title argument.

I make use of owner-drawn ComboBox's within my program (ImgBurn) and under
Ubuntu (via Wine 1.0 rc5 - and all versions before it that I've tested) they're
drawn too big and end up covering up the buttons below them.
It's only a matter of 2 or so pixels but it's enough to matter.
I've attached a zip containing a couple of PNG's.
1 from Windows (with 'Themes' disabled so it looks more like Ubuntu) showing
the expected height of the box and another from Ubuntu 8.04/Wine where the
combobox slightly overlaps the buttons below it.

Log trace of failed run under 0.9.43
This may or may not be related to bug #5163.
On 0.9.36 I have a working installation of visio 2003.
After upgrading to 0.9.42 visio ceases to work, failing with the message "iopl
not enabled".
Ditto for 0.9.43.
After reverting back to 0.9.36, visio 2003 again works.
Word and Excel 2003 seem to work happily on all of these versions of wine.

The problem happens during a call to this method
where widget is a pointer to an uninitialized pointer
which will receive the pointer to the widget:
interface IKindaEnumWidget : IUnknown

[out] IWidget **widget);
I discovered that the attached patch prevented the problem.
I don't quite understand why; at first glance,
widget is an out parameter from the function,
why would it be dereferenced while serializing
the call?

It's a bug in the typelib marshaller. It doesn't check whether a
VT_PTR type is actually an interface pointer and not access it on
input when the parameter is an [out] parameter. Note that because of
the memory re-use semantics it is legal to access memory passed in to
a remote function, even when the parameter is [out].
I think it's getting close to the time to reimplement the typelib
marshaller on top of NDR functions so that we don't have to implement
these subtleties twice, would improve performance and would reduce the
amount of code.

Hi,
I'm using wine 0.9.59 on Ubuntu 8.04. After installing Word Viewer (2003), and
opening a document written in Hebrew, the order of the letters in each word is
reversed, but the order of the words is right.
For example if there are two words that should appear like this (Hebrew is
written from right to left):
"FED CBA"
then on the Word Viewer in wine they appear like this:
"DEF ABC"
AFAIK this problem also occurs on other linux distros (I've seen it also on
Gentoo).

When running configure of a program in msys under wine the whole process is
incredibly slooooow compared to the same under Windows.
I've tracked the problem down to following:
$ export WINEPREFIX=`pwd`/msystest
$ wineboot -i
$ cd msystest/drive_c
$ wget -c
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mingw/msysCORE-1.0.11-2007.01.19-1.tar.bz2

$ wineconsole bin/sh.exe --login -i
--- in msys console ---
# time for i in 1 2 3 4 5; do echo $i; done
...
real 0m0.021s
# time for i in 1 2 3 4 5; do /bin/echo $i; done
...
real 0m3.396s
i.e. each fork of /bin/echo takes approximately almost *1* second!
On Windows both examples runs fast, although /bin/echo case is slightly slower,
but still speed ratio is not *that* big.
Thanks beforehand.

In the Dutch localization of Wine, Program files gets translated as "Programma

- Inconsistent with Windows behaviour, which ALWAYS uses the name "Program
files".
- Bad grammar, it becomes "Programmabestanden" in Dutch, but it doesn't make it
sound any better.
Requesting the name to be reverted to "Program files".

WINEDEBUG=+toolbar,+listview,+themingcombo wine 0.9.59 log
Here are two screenshots:
Wine being run with MS comctl32.dll, the same thing you see in Windows:
http://polosatus.ru/wine/toolbar_reference.png
And wine running with it's own version of comctl32:
http://polosatus.ru/wine/toolbar_bug.png
First of all, disappeared toolbar at the middle of screenshot.
Also, notice misplaced right toolbar. It is misplaced to left a bit. I suppose
both bugs are related.
Seems that developers have used some undocumented features, as log has this:
warn:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize 5 buttons, undoc increase to bitmap size :
16-15 -> 20-20
and this:
warn:toolbar:TOOLBAR_SetBitmapSize 6 buttons, undoc increase to bitmap size :
20-20 -> 16-16
several times.
I've supposed that WINEDEBUG=+toolbar,+listview,+themingcombo should be enough
for initial log :)

crash log
Reported by a user on user-list. Crashes in comctl32. I'll attach the crash
log.
After winetricks cc580, it crashes in unimplemented function in activeds. I'll
send a patch for the latter crash to wine-patches. After that, the main gui is
up fine
