Summary: Non-Windows(XP) behaviour for using themes in apps
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.44.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-comctl32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Stuart(a)houseofanime.org
DVD Profiler takes information from Windows XP and higher to determine
different themes within the program; specifically a choice between Blue,
Silver, and Olive (mapping to NormalColor, Metallic and Homestead
respectively). In addition, my standard XP install gives DVD Profiler some more
options, including Obsidian.
Attached are XP and Linux comparisons for Blue, Olive, and Obsidian (XP on top,
Linux below). When taking shots from each OS, ONLY the theme from within the
application was changed (under the view menu item) - I made no change to the
actual themes in display properties (Window XP) or Winecfg.
Also attached is a screen shot of the application when it originally opens with
the 'blue' theme (its welcome screen). Note how the welcome screen displays the
correct colours, which change appropriately when you change the theme in DVD
Profiler.
I also copied the contents of the Resources/Themes directory from XP to Wine to
see the effect. It gave additional Theme options in Winecfg, but made no
difference when the same test was performed within DVD Profiler.

always avoid memory on wrong side of stack pointer
The code which relays stack frames from one calling sequence to another can be
written never to touch memory that lies on the undefined side of the current
stack pointer. Even though in normal cases there may be no danger in
referencing below the stack pointer (because of precautions with alternate
signal stack, etc.), it is more robust to avoid this. Debuggers (both code and
human) and other tools may be unaware of the special precautions, or may find
it impossible to comply.
Patch is attached, and will be sent to wine-patches(a)winehq.org.

Proposed fix for configure script - not well tested
Some systems only provide wide character versions of the curses libraries.
This is the default on LFS and a few others. The built in AC macros are
correctly detecting the curses header files but the WINE_CHECK_SONAME macro
misses the actual libs.
On my system I fixed configure.ac the behavoir as shown in the attached diff
and then ran autoconf
I don't know if this is clean or would break detection of non-wide libraries.
The error stating that curses functionality will be disabled is no longer in my
configure logs but I don't know if I actually have curses support now.

ReportedBy: mdemolins(a)gmail.com
Hello all,
I use Fedora 8 and wine 0.9.54 (the rpm provided by the official repos).
Wine appears somewhat ok. Anyways, I'm trying to run a W95/98 game, Panzer
General 2. The Wine site says it works fine.
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=124 2
I was able to get the game running by changing to a Virtual Desktop and it
loads to the main menu screen fine. However, after I start a scenario, the game
loads up with the game control menu, but the central part of the screen where
the map of the scenario should be doesn't change. It just stays the same
graphic as the previous main menu screen. Clicking on the button to look at the
strategic map crashes the game. Basically it appears anything with some bit of
graphics doesn't work.
I've changed Emulation to W95 or W98 for the program, and also played with the
Video modes, but none of this helps. Any ideas? It looks like a video problem.
>From the below error message, I'm wondering if I can change to an 8-bit window
for the game to work.
Note :
1. this bug seems to be exactly the same that when I wanted to use PG2 under
Win XP without having set the "Win 95/98 compatibility mode" in the properties
of its desktop shortcut.
2. I use the official game CD to install and run the game, not an ISO (I've
bought it).

The (software?) cursor in Command & Conquer: Red Alert disappears randomly.
This can be accomplished by moving the cursor fast when clicking some menu
buttons or it happens randomly in game or menu. Might take many tries.
Some assumptions:
Not SMP related, happens on both dual core and single core.
Not related to DirectDrawRenderer, both GDI and OpenGL has the same problem.
Tested with todays git.

Note: This is _NOT_ related to #6618. The freeze happens *after* the intro ends
by e.g. hitting the mouse key.
Without renaming the movies folder, the following error shows up:
This application has encountered a critical error:
FATAL ERROR!
Program: C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3.exe

The memory could not be 'read'."
With the movie folder renamed the Warcraft III just freezes with a black
screen.
Frankly, it's just a matter of timing: If you wait ~5 Seconds before skipping
the intro Warcraft III freezes, if you skip the intro immediately the error
message pops up.
Also, see the comments by 'Clement' on the AppDB Page.
Note: Downgrading to 0.9.45 didn't solve my problem.

trace:msiexec:main argvW[1] = L"/p"
trace:msiexec:main argvW[2] = L"WPOX3_SP1_EN.msp"
That's all folks !
First I thought I had what was described in
http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=8457#8457. However, I think
fixme:msi:MSI_OpenDatabaseW open failed r = 80030003 for
L"/home/lex/Downloads/Windows/WP12OSP2/WP12SP2EN.msp"
means 'file not found'. I tried a patch to a copy of my WPO12 installation and
msiexec seemed as happy as larry. (I confess I tried SP1, not SP2 ... see
below).
I did as Dan Kegel suggested and tried WINEDEBUG=+msi+msidb to my problem and
got no output at all. I thought this meant 'application not installed'. After
all, if there is nothing to patch then there is nothing to say.
So I made some trials ...
I have a wine skin with WPO12 (WPO = WordPerfect Office) installed and another
with WPOX3 installed. I have three msp Service Packs for WPO12 and two for
WPOX3.
As expected, attempting to install any service pack on the wrong installation
gave no trace beyond confirming the parameters as shown above.
For WPO12, SP1 was happy, SP2 was silent and SP3 was happy enough but told me
either the application wasn't installed or it was at the wrong patch level.
Fair enough.
For WPOX3, SP1 was silent while the hot fix for SP2 was happy (though
unintelligible due to a font issue I'm still looking into).
So it seems that the silence must have some other explanation.
My Wine trials were with XP emulation. WPOX3 and its service packs have been
installed under both native W2K (SP4) Professional and WXP (SP2) Home. WPO12
and its service packs were used under native W98 and possibly W2K (SP4)
Professional.
As for links where you can download this stuff (I'd doubt the Service Packs
apply to Trial Versions)
WPOX3 Trial Version:
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=uk/ProcessLayout&lc=en&ppg=…
WPOX3 Service Packs:
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Content/1153321224268?pid=1208…
I believe I have "Hot Patch - English: Security Update" and "Service Pack 1 -
English". Service Pack 2 seems to be an .exe. file.
WPO12 Trial Version:
See bug 2547
WPO12 Service Packs:
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Content/1153321224268?pid=1208…
I have the English versions of Service Packs 1, 2 and 3.
The whole lot will set you back 600+ Mb download. You'll need a Gb to install
WPOX3 and half that for WPO12.

Wine should not wake the cpu when it's not doing anything, at least when only
builtin programs are running. Current obvious offenders are the system tray (a

addressed, we should try to run some builtin programs with strace and see if we
get any output when the programs are idle.

You will notice that while most of the display is fine, the background
and the texts on the papersheets are missing in my version. Actually,
these 6 texts are also .tga image files. Instead, wine displays a sort
of spline pattern: lines of various color (related to the missing
image) emanate from a single origin, like quantic particles.
This effect is visually stable across refreshes of the display.
(Later in the game, a few icons are missing, but that could have a
different cause, as there's no such spline effect there.)
This happens to me both with the commercial game as well as a demo
found on a german DVD.
I've been using wine-0.9.56/54/48/47 with Ubuntu Dapper and Gutsy.
No warnings are shown in the console.

A user said that ConvWPT ran in Wine, but gave a very complicated recipe,
so I tried simplifying it. Along the way, I noticed that ConvWPT's installer
used teeny tiny nearly unreadable fonts; installing Tahoma fixed that
(now they're just small, but readable).
Recipe to reproduce:
1) Visit http://www.linuxtechs.net/kruch/tb/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2152
scroll down to message "Setup Package Part 1 / 4", and
download and unpack each of the four files Setup.part1.rar, Setup.part2.rar,
... Setup.part4.rar
Ignore warnings from rar about duplicate files.
2) Run the resulting setup.exe
The setup program uses small Tahoma text on some screens, and that's
very nearly unreadable unless you install native tahoma, e.g. with
winetricks tahoma.

with sound (if you've made the changes needed to get sound from the game - see
the AppDB for details.) Affects mission briefings in the campaign, and messages
recieved during campaign missions.

Hello,
I am running the most recent version of Wine on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn with all the
most recent updates. (I've even tried fresh install of Wine and Ubuntu)
My problem is that I am unable to get X Com UFO Defence to work with Wine. The
game will launch but the keyboard does NOT work. I've have extensive
troubleshooting but I can't get the keyboard to work. I have even had someone
else try to get it working (someone with alot of experience with Wine) and they
said that they were not able to get the keyboard working either (different PC
and all).
I have tried setting up a launcher script and had no success... same issue.
I've tried virtual KBs and those don't work either. I've even tried a KB which
should push input to all sessions but even that does NOT work.
I have tried to run the game in terminal, in seperate window, but the KB will
NOT work... or the game won't launch.
I've tried 3 different install packages for the game and still no success.
Other games work, and the keyboard works in them with no problems.
Game is now abondonware and is available at
http://www.abandonia.com/games/38/UF...emyUnknown.htm
or
http://www.the-underdogs.info/downlo...ld.zip&id=4966
Any investigation or input would be appreciated.

Typewell is, among other things, a simple word processor that
can create, save, and load .rtf files. However,
if you create text in various styles (e.g. underlined,
italic), save it to a .rtf file, restart the app and load
the same file, the styles are wrong;
whatever the last style you selected when
you saved, e.g. underlined, is applied to the
entire document. (Or something like that. It's hard to pin down.)
winetricks riched20 makes things a lot better.
Sadly, the bold attribute is ignored with or without riched20.
This is roughly where this app has been for several years;
marking as an 0.9 bug. I don't think it's ever worked properly,
so this is not a regression.
If somebody wants to tackle this, I can get them a copy.

Summary: Imageready 7 update squirrly

Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: Other

Severity: normal
Priority: P2

Install the Photoshop 7 trial, start Imageready 7, and try updating
(click the orange jellyfish at the top of the tool palette,
then click "Updates" on the "Adobe Online" dialog,
check the box next to "Adobe SVG Viewer 3.0",
then click "Download").
The first problem is that the first try simply finishes
silently without downloading anything, at least for me.
So try again; this time, to see the SVG Viewer offered
in the list of updates, you have to select "Old updates" from the
pulldown on the right (reasonable, since you've already
been notified about it, but unreasonable since the update failed).
This time a "Transfer Status" dialog is displayed and the
SVG Viewer installer downloads and runs.
When it runs the SVG Viewer 3.0 setup, all
goes well... until it's done. The "Finished, OK"
dialog shows up for a second, then disappears
(or did for me). The update dialog stays there,
partially drawn, with the "stop" button drawn.
Hitting alt-tab doesn't find the missing "OK" dialog.
Waiting about twenty seconds seems to do the trick, though;
the update dialog goes away, and if you've checked the
"show history when finished" checkbox, the history window
shows up.
So it all kind of works but leaves one scratching his head
wondering if it did. I presume it works better on Windows,
but haven't verified this.

Like the title says.
This is likely due some LOD malfunction.
The ground which is farther from the players view looks more detailed and high
res, this leads me to the conclusion that the LOD of the game operates the
exact opposite what it should. Also this explains the slowness of the game.
With ground I mean the grass and hills which are basically just one big
surface. However the textures of the buildings and trees, which are complex 3d
models, are looking great.
In the console there are some of these messages:

The demo installs and starts nicely.
All the italics are illegible unless you install corefonts' times,
but that's not what this report is about.
Selecting "copy" (either by ^C, File / Copy, or the Copy button
in the toolbar on the right) crashes the app. The stack is
simplest if you press ^C, but all seem to be a null
pointer reference in the same function.
Native msvcrt doesn't help.
The log doesn't seem too illuminating, but warn+heap
has the spectacular effect of changing the stack
completely to lots of 5555's.

The same thing happens when attempting to Create PDF --> From Multiple Files
A note on file type: selecting OpenOffice .odt files gives you a "file type not

reasonable to conclude Acrobat Pro knows how to convert .doc's to pdf.

7zipped log of warn+all,+listview on wine 0.9.60
Here is a deal: There is a list view containing 300K+ items. Looks like this:
http://polosatus.ru/wine/listview.png It's a full list of all words indexed in
some database.
When using native comctl32.dll, you just type the text in and the list
*immediately* jumps to the item that starts from the letters you've entered.
Works pretty simple and swift and no CPU load.
But when you use builtin comctl32.dll there are 3 problems:
1. It hangs on each keypress. In log (77Mb) you may see a lot of iterations
like this:
trace:listview:ranges_cmp range1=[22765, 22766], range2=[25271, 25272], cmp=-1
trace:listview:ranges_contain (nItem=22766)
trace:listview:ranges_assert *** Checking ranges_contain:2691:before contain
***
trace:listview:ranges_dump [25271, 25272]
trace:listview:ranges_assert --- Done checking---
And each keypress results in new rescan, as it hangs pretty well even if the
highlighted item matches new typed letter. And the further first match is, the
longer it hangs on each keypress.
2. It searches not items STARTING with enterred text, but items CONTAINING it.
Both of these bugs make usage of this box a nonsense. When you try to find, for
instance an item "most" and you type "most" it would stop at the point "almost"
and so, you have to search it manually by scrolling.
3. When I close this box, it just hangs again for a few secs (and generates
another 50M+ to log).
When generating log, I've typed only three letters: "alt" and it was enough to
generate 20M+ log. Another 55M+ where generated when I clicked close button.

work fine, albeit pressure sensitivity is missing. Unfortunately the program
isn't much without the pressure sensitivity.
Under Wine 0.9.55 from this site, pressure sensitivity works... however the
tablet behaves very oddly when drawing on the canvas. The Y axis seems
inverted, so if I draw in the top left, ink appears in the bottom left. There
are also minor oddities such as sudden vertical lines of ink suddenly
appearing. Finally the program frequently hangs with divide by zero exceptions.
The tablet works perfectly fine under applications such as Inkscape and Gimp."
FWIW, I think you can download OpenCanvas 1.1 from
http://wistinga.online.fr/opencanvas/
but I don't know what the authoritative site is anymore, if there is one.

Hi
Since wine 0.9.61 (previous versions worked just fine) I am having problems
connecting to a VPN remote database through ssh tunnel forwarding using gSTM.
My localhost is set to "stefan" and the gSTM port 33061 is forwarded to port
3306 on the remote machine.
Connections to a local database on my machine works OK, and all other internet
connections work OK as well.
SQLyog does not crash, it only displays a standard error message complaining no
connectivity to the DB.
Every time I downgrade to 0.9.60 it starts to work again.

Summary: Photoshop CS2 tools stop working in maximised images
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.3
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: john(a)todnet.demon.co.uk
When working with maximized images in Photoshop CS2, tools (e.g. crop, marquee,
clone etc. etc.) will eventually stop working. All tools except the colour
picker seem to be affected. When the tool is clicked on the image, the tool
symbol disappears whilst the mouse key is pressed and nothing is done.
The problem usually appears after several images have been opened, but can
happen after a single image has been opened and worked on. Sometimes tool
functionality becomes intermittent at first, then eventually stops working
altogether. Closing all images except one does not restore tool functionality.
The tools work normally in non-maximized windows. However, menu based commands
(e.g. filters) work normally with the maximized images - just the tools are
affected.
Easiest way to replicate: Open several images in Photoshop CS2, maximize, work
on them, open some more images, repeat.

Summary: Microsoft Word Viewer 2003: Cannot associate with *.doc
files
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bammzilla(a)gabriana.com
To reproduce:
1) Start with a clean .wine profile just to make sure (delete .wine and run
wineprefixcreate)
2) Install Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003. Installation should succeed
without problems.
3) Create a shortcut in KMenu (in KDE) or Applications menu (in Gnome). The
command should look similar to this:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/bamm/.wine" wine "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\WORDVIEW.EXE"
depending, of course, on the installation path you selected, and label it
Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003 (or whatever you please).
Note that this step may be unneccessary because Wine may have already created
this shortcut for you.
4) Associate *.doc files (application/msword) with the Microsoft Office Word
Viewer 2003.
5) Double click on a *.doc file. Word Viewer opens but the document does not
open.
==
Analysis:
It seems the wrong path to the document is sent to Word Viewer. To test this,
replace wordview.exe with a script that displays the full path name.
You can see this problem without actually associating *.doc files with the
viewer. In my desktop you can right-click on a *.doc file, select Open With,
choose Other, then browse to the shortcut you created in Step 3. The result is
the same; Word Viewer opens but the document is not loaded.

The software appears to work well other than the mic recognition, but it would

after installation, Freewire aborts with a message box complaining about the
currently set bit depth. From relay trace:

GetDeviceCaps() is being called with the DC handle returned from GetDC(NULL)
and the COLORRES value for nIndex. In dlls/winex11.drv/init.c lines 259 and

return 0;
Freewire apparently does not like the returned value, and thus aborts with the
message box. Modifying the COLORRES case to return screen_bpp allows the
application to get past this point, though I am not sure if this is the right
thing to do.

bringing up the bookmark library. Either way, very annoying, especially for tab

When you try and run the Torque Game Builder application the entire screen goes

If you run the application in a virtual desktop the same thing happens. The
virtual desktop is visible for a few seconds before the entire screen goes
blank.
Restarting X is the only way I know to recover the system.
I am not sure but I think the IDE makes use of directX.

I've noticed this bug two years ago when I first tried Wine. I never reported
it. I always expected that it was something obvious that would get fixed soon,
and now here we are with version 0.9.47 and the bug still rampant. So it is
not something obvious.
In Windows I frequently used the comic book reader called CDisplay[1]. When I
moved on, I brought the software with me and tried it in Wine. In most cases
-- because many of my scanned comic books are old and black and white -- I was
unable to read the book. A weird graphical glitch, which would not output any
useful debug message, would prevent me from reading the book. I managed to
track, after some experimenting, that the problem was caused by most (but not
all) grayscale JPEG files. A RGB colored one would not suffer from this
problem.
I believe it may be a GDI+ glitch.
Since 2005 at least I've seen this problem, and it went on in every update of
Wine, clean install or not. Besides the rendering glitch, the program works
otherwise fine.
While the problem seemingly only affects CDisplay, it's possible that it may
affect some videogames, or even Photoshop itself, and as such it may be worth
checking it out.
Attached is an example file that triggers the problem. CDisplay is a freeware
application. The link for download is below.

* Enter an endless loop (continually spamming SetLayeredWindowAttributes calls

* Mess up at least part of the Wine registry while doing it (graphics settings
are lost after the game and Wine are killed, whereas they're properly saved

CoH is optimized for dual-core processors; top confirms that it isn't detecting
the dual-core processor on its own under Wine.

displayed partially if you are using the 3d desktop in ubuntu. The reason that
the graphics are displayed somehow when you are using 3d desktop is because the
backbuffer is smaller. I think the whole problem is in the
IWineD3DSwapChainImpl_Present function in swapchain.c file in wined3d. The
problem is that handling the pSourceRect and pDestRect parameters (which
control the copying parts from the backbuffer to the window) of the function is
not implemented yet (FIXME("Unhandled present options %p/%p\n", pSourceRect,

ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net
Hi there,
this bug should be sort of a "metabug" for fixing the locking behaviour of
volume and volumetexture objects in D3D (version 8 and 9 currently, because 7
and below doesn't have/support volumes).
I already wrote some patches and testcases to fix/illustrate the problem, but
they were rejected on wine-patches. The main problem that the problem should be
adressed much lower in wined3d.
I now post all my current patches here, so other people can take a look.
Some things what are currently not implemented:
(1) locking of volume/volumetex objects always succeeds althoug it shouldn't
- specifying to large lockboxes should fail for example
- some volumes are not lockable at all
(2) creating volumes/volumetextures always succeeds, usage and pool types are
not checked
Only a few things the patches should adress.
I intend on working on this, but I need a bit more input about why and where to
fix this exactly.
Attaching patches now...
Also adding Stefan Dösinger, Henri Verbeet, Alexander Dorofeyev and Roderick
Colenbrander to CC (sry guys *g*, but I'm sure you know where my stuff should
go).
I currently have these DX SDK docs on my system:
version 9, 8, 7 and 6
(someone asked me if I got the 7 SDK)

Tobias

When I run Phantasmagoria 1, it will crash right after calling int 31, ax=0001
which is a DPMI interrupt, free LDT descriptor. Which means that it crashes
somewhere around line 882 in file dlls/winedos/int31.c I then commented out
what's between the else { and }. The comment that is already there reads:
/* If a segment register contains the selector being freed, */
/* set it to zero. */
Which probably means that the game tries to use either the DS, ES, FS or GS
segment after it has freed the LDT descriptor. Is this function/interrupt
really supposed to fiddle with DS, ES, FS and GS? I can't see any mention of
that in the DPMI
specifications(http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/doc/dpmi/api/310001.html) and
apparently Windows handles it differently, since it won't crash when I comment
out the lines that reset these segments.

Hi,
(Using Ubuntu 8.04, GNOME desktop, Wine 1.0)
This is a question about virtual desktop mode.
When the virtual desktop window is minimised then restored, or brought to the
front after being covered by another window, Wine appears to tell the Windows
applications to refresh their windows. (At least, on my old slow system I
notice buttons etc. being redrawn - restoring the virtual desktop window is not
instantaneous.) Is that correct? Surely it would be better for compatibility
and speed if Wine caches the whole virtual desktop bitmap when the window is
not visible, so it can be instantly displayed when the virtual desktop window
is restored/revealed. Could some Windows programs assume that if they are the
only window on the desktop, that they don't need to refresh their window
imagery?

I get that message when I use a stock charting program that's implemented
as an ocx application. The message appears when I right-click on a chart
to call a popup menu.
I really can't use the program without that popup menu, so I'd be truly
grateful if one of you wine wizards would do this.
Thanks!

Summary: Tribes 2: must double-tap for in game chat
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.48.

Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

When in game, the chat keys must be pressed twice after the first use.
For example, I can press 'u' (global chat) once to bring up a text entry box to
say something in the global channel (correct operation). After that, I must
hit 'u' twice to bring up the text entry box. In-game console shows the error:
DInputDevice::syncKeyboardState - DIERR_INVALIDPARAM
Switching out of the game window and back will reset the condition - it works
for first use then must hit twice.

Summary: Mouse button events generated by a window's app are not

Patch to send mouse button events to the X server
winex11.drv uses XWarpPointer to send mouse movements to the X server. Mouse
button events are not sent. If a pointing device device communicates directly
with a windows app running in wine, the user will be able to move the mouse
pointer, but button presses will only work on windows controlled by wine.
The attached patch adds calls to send mouse button events generated by a
windows application to the X server. The way this is done is similar to the way
it is done in the Synergy client - by using XTestFakeButtonEvent
(see http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/).
Requires libXtst.
This bug might also resolve bug 7032.

Terminal Output log
This program creates a "Run-time error '445': Object doesn't support this
action" as soon as the interface loads. The download comes with several .dll
and .ocx files, most of which do not seem to come pre-packaged with Wine 1.1.4
(the only one I can remember which wasn't new was oleaut32.dll, but there may
have been one or two others).
I've tried moving these files into Wine's system32 folder and running the
program both with and without having those files set as Native Then Builtin.
The only difference I found was that setting oleaut32.dll as Native Then
Builtin causes the error message to change to "Run-time error '-2147467259
(80004005)': Automation error." Whether this means the problem is with the
oleaut.dll file itself, a combination of files, or something else entirely, I
have no idea.
Here are the links to download the required files:
YVD 9.0 Beta 12 (contains all the base files necessary to run):

YVD 9.0 RC1 Test Build 5 (contains two files which must be used in place of the

Screenshot of the error dialog
Marrick Ltd. Home Control Assistant (HCA) fails to communicate with a LynX-10
module connected to COM-1, returns an error pop-up window [see image
attachment]
This error occurs when in hardware setup, clicking the Test button for the
device. The device is specified manually-there is nothing implying that there
was any actual communication with the device. Activity lights did not come on
with the LynX-10. The software cannot perform its task without communicating
with the interface.
This does not occur within native Win98SE. The device is indeed connected to
serial port 1 and is powered up.
Background info:
LynX-10 is an X10 interface used for home automation for sending digital
messages through AC lines to turn various devices on and off, dim lights, etc.
with computer control. It connects using a serial port, is powered off the AC
and has an activity light for serial exchanges.
http://www.hcatech.com/
The software is designed to interface with a variety of interfaces; each
interface needs specification as to what COM port it is attached to. Next to
each interface on the setup dialog is a Test button. When this Test button is
clicked the dialog described above occurs.
The attached log starts from startup of the program, which runs quite smoothly
until the explicitly-marked parts.
Machine info:
kubuntu 8.4, up-to-date (as of Jul 27 2008)
2 serial ports, 1 plugged into LynX-10, second is free.
No special serial port software installed on linux end.
Windows version mode is "use default"

comcat
comctl32

Description:
The games runs smooth 60+ fps otherwise. When this bug occurs the screen
stutters/hitches/freezes and sounds will repeat(usually a grenade being thrown
or exploding seem to be commond sounds that play when this happens). This can
last from 1 to 5 seconds. The Hud will often redraw. After this the game is
playable again but occurs frequently, every 2-3 rounds of play. This occurs on
all maps while playing online. It occurred on both 64bit and 32 bit builds of
linux.
There doesn't seem to be any meaningful output from the console.
This bug does not occur using windows operating system on my hardware. It only
occurs when using wine. I think it is related to this.
