full output of running the installer
hi,
I am on a fairly new opensuse 11 install with wine 1.1.9 package from the
opensuse build service.
I just installed wine and first ran "wine iexplore http://google.com" to have
the gecko engine installed for steam.
then I run "wine start SteamInstall.msi" which yields:
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000500
fixme:msi:MSI_OpenDatabaseW open failed r = 8003001e for
L"C:\\windows\\temp\\msi1da.tmp"
I see some window very briefly popup and disappear again.
if I run "wine msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi" I just get the second fixme and no
window popup
I don't know if this may be related, but I know, on windows, if you start an
MSI install from a subst'ed drive (for example, on my real windows I have T:
mapped to C:\temp), it will fail too with no clear reason..

The above attachment should have been accompanied by this message:
Sorry, there is no way to access my playlists outside of my network.
The attachment is the terminal output of my latest attempt to use Streaming
Media Player with the wine version 1.0.1. Now the Media Player can connect to
playlists and play any of the files. However, after the player connects, it
changes sizes to the resolution of the file and the sound of the file can be
heard but NO video.
Hopefully the terminal output can help determine why the DivX video files in
the playlist can be heard but not seen.
Note: I can play the files perfectly if they are on my computer but not
remotely through Media Streaming Player.

I think the most recent changes to the DIB engine may have broken Space Empires
V. In wine 1.1.9, the 3D view would appear but most objects would be invisible,
but as of 1.1.10 the game just crashes when I reach that point with some errors
creating Direct3D and DirectDraw surfaces. (The actual errors are in my latest
AppDB report for SE5 1.74 which I entered a few minutes ago.)

comdlg32: make includeObject notify window with CDN_INCLUDEITEM
so... i decided to investigate why didn't mpc show the files when browsing...
i've been debugging this for some days but found the problem, although it's not
quite solved, so if anyone has any idea please share.
the good thing was that mpc source code is available so i could see how it was
implemented.
i found out that includeObject is supposed to notify the browsing window with
CDN_INCLUDEITEM that wasn't yet declared in wine.
the problem is that i get:
err:pidl:_ILSimpleGetTextW -- no text
err:pidl:_ILSimpleGetTextW -- no text
trace:commdlg:SendCustomDlgNotificationMessage RET NOTIFY
trace:commdlg:SendCustomDlgNotificationMessage Retval: 0x00000000
and the notify isn't successful :\
any ideas?

I compiled 1.1.10 from GIT and seems that this is fixed also for eMule Plus.
¡Thank You!

Tested with wine 1.1.9.
The original issue appreares only when wine is set up to emulate virtual
desktop. If this option is off, no graphical corruption appeares.
When using the mentioned option, the incorrectly/not redrawn part is on the
right side of the screen; the bottom is now drawn correctly.

Zhenya, patching source code which is going to compile is quite equivalent to
putting dlls that already works in the "patched way".

Firsty, try Wine-1.1.10, it was released some days ago.
If newer bugs are still present, you could help Wine project by writing up
individual (atomic) bugs into a list and then doing regression test [10] for
every such bug (separately).
Once you identify offending commit ID, search it up in the Bugzilla. If that's
not a case, also try looking at the list of known Wine issues [11]. It may be
someone already has filed appropriate bugreport. If it's not, file your own
one about the issue.
Repeat this for every symptom of regression you've noticed. Thanks for looking
into a bug :)

Problem remains in 1.1.10. I've got an error message box and no crash.
It claims that:

This is a long-needed cleanup aimed at removing the ddraw_primary,
ddraw_window, ddraw_width and ddraw_height members from
IWineD3DDeviceImpl, which just do not belong there. Destination
window and screen handling is supposed to be done by swapchains.

Worms Armageddon hack for Wine 1.1.10
The attached patch should do what the previous patches has done. The only thing
is that the game will crash when you try to enter submenus like configure
weapon settings or game settings. I don't know if it's related.

I'm not sure if current .deb package from Mr. Scott Ritchie are updated and has
this patch, because last possible update to date is:
~$ wine --version
wine-1.1.9-183-gbbaa72d
Tested (still not perfectly working):
eMule Plus 1.2e Alpha + Ubuntu 8.10 + wine-1.1.9-183-gbbaa72d
Should I wait for 1.1.10 to become available to test again?

While direct3d mode has issues in World of Warcraft, they're mostly performance
ones. I couldn't notice any kind of graphic corruption.
Also, the original link is dead.

FFXI Would not run in full-screen mode. Upon selecting the Agreement to access
the character menu the screen would go black and the console window would spam
messages about the IMM interface.
I grabbed the wine sources for the Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) build for wine 1.1.10
and validated that the IMM sanity patch is in fact not applied to
dlls/imm32/imm.c
Edited dlls/imm32/imm.c by hand to add the sanity checks into
ImmSetCompositionStringA and ImmSetCompositionStringW.
Ran dpkg-buildpackage on modified sources.
Started FFXI in full-screen mode with Wine configured to emulate a desktop
environment. FFXI started up correctly and made it to past the character
selection screen and all the way into the game with much improved frame rates.
Still had to perform the F1+Enter+Enter trick (Which works on the PS2/PS3 as
well when the game feels randomly laggy for no-apparent reason).

The dialog box still comes up, but now the game no longer crashes;
dismissing the dialog (and the next one) let you get to the
non-saved-game version of the game. So it's improved, but not fixed.

I figured. Go ahead and send the new version to wine-patches with (take 2)
appended to the subject line you used before...

I can confirm this partially. Using classic skin I can't open the ML by
clicking on the context menu. But it does work with the shortcut (ALT-L). Other
Winamp windows work fine, just the ML doesn't react on the context menus entry.

UseGLSL=disabled in wine-1.1.10
Game running in wine-1.1.10 with UseGLSL set to disabled. The trees are now
visible as are most textures, however there are still squares of ground not
visible.

Yes, still present with wine-1.1.10. The problem is improved slightly with
UseGLSL set to disabled though.

clusapi: add stubs for ClusterEnum, ClusterOpenEnum and ClusterCloseEnum
i double checked and actually the output is not the same... with ERROR_SUCCESS
it called ClusterEnum with the same parameters twice, with ERROR_NO_MORE_ITEMS
it makes two different calls to ClusterEnum, the first for MSSQL and the second
for some Service Pack 2.
so i'm thinking ERROR_NO_MORE_ITEMS is the way to go, although the rpc errors
are still there and doesn't continue. but that's a problem of not being able to
create the MSSQLSERVER service.

Summary: IDirect3DDevice9::reset() is flawed.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.9
Platform: All
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jerome.gardou(a)laposte.net
I found this bug when tracking down a crash in Supreme commander. This game
calls device->reset(), and crashes.
Reading the code there (taken from the line 316 of d3d9/device.c) :
if(pool == WINED3DPOOL_DEFAULT) {
IWineD3DResource_GetParent(resource, &parent);
if(IUnknown_Release(parent) == 0) {
TRACE("Parent %p is an implicit resource with ref 0\n", parent);
} else {
WARN("Resource %p(wineD3D %p) with pool D3DPOOL_DEFAULT blocks the
Reset call\n", parent, resource);
ret = S_FALSE;
*resources_ok = FALSE;
}
}
the assumption is made that the ref of parent is 0, which seems correct, but
calling getparent calls IUnknown_AddRef, on an already freed object => crash !

actually, by mistake I tested the Zoo Tycoon 1 demo, misread the bug report.
I've now tested Zoo Tycoon 2 demo which installs and appears to run fine.
I think we can mark this fixed, it's likely to be fixed in the full game too.

i have no crash here.
although it gets very slow because of interrupts of some sort... when i click
the tray icon i have to do ctrl+C several times so that it's menu shows up. but
other than that it works +/- . idk about updating bios since i'm not on a MSI
board... oh and the update site doesn't show up.
i have this output repeated throughout execution:
