Summary: Wine Desktop lacks wind deco if the window manager isn't
decorating wine windows
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.59.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: echidnaman(a)gmail.com
The new "Allow the window manager to decorate the windows" option introduced in
Wine 0.9.60 also effects the Wine virtual desktop. When unchecked, the virtual
desktop lacks window decoration itself.
Shouldn't this option be disabled when Wine is set to use a virtual desktop?
Since all Wine apps are going to be inside the desktop, Wine already does all
the window decoration. The window decoration option should probably be grayed
out if the "Emulate a virtual desktop" option is enabled.

is fishy and not skipping, but instead failing.

Whiteness in Sim City 4 Deluxe city view
Sim City 4 installs and runs in software rendering mode but has severe
graphical glitches in hardware rendering mode. In hardware mode fog/smoke is
rendered in a blocky manner and the entire terrain is white so it is very
difficult to distinguish anything. In addition, rendering performance is very
slow in hardware mode. In software mode the game is very responsive. I have
encountered this problem in release candidates 1-4. I was unable to install it
at all using one of the 9.5x versions so overall there has been improvement.
I have attached a screenshot of the city view which is most affected by the
glitch. The cityscape is supposed to be mostly green and brown. Region view has
blocky fog but no whiteness.

Tested on AutoCAD 2005 and AutoCAD 2008, after installation following
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13799 guidelines.
Working on a drawing with many texts/quotes zooms/scrolls/pans becomes
painfully slow. Bug concerns just texts, NOT images or other drawing elements.
I suppose is a performance problem on gdi, but not sure about.
Ciao

On 0.9.49, simcity 4 runs almost flawlessly. On 0.9.50, it becomes unplayable
because the 3d objects become invisible, and only sometimes they flicker back
visibly, but just for an instant.

Summary: Source Insight does not refresh the screen
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.58.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, regression
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scott(a)open-vote.org
>From Launchpad: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/208853
I have installed Source Insight, v3.50.0058 (http://www.sourceinsight.com),
under Wine (0.9.58-0ubuntu2) under Hardy Beta.
Source Insight is a code editor and browser. You can install a time-limited
copy if you want.
Anyway, having used this under Wine under Ubuntu for 18 months, with only a
couple of niggly problems, I decided to upgrade (by doing a wipe + fresh
install) to Hardy Beta. Since then, Source Insight has exhibited major
problems.
These all centre around NOT refreshing the screen after things happen:
(1) Opening a new source-file window and moving it. Also resizing an existing
window.
(2) Minimising and then maximising the Source Insight window itself.
In both cases, the screen inside the Source Insight window does not refresh.
Moving the window around the screen does nothing (except get a nice swirly
pattern of a repeating window title-bar inside the window itself.
The only way I have found to cure the problem and make the window refresh
itself is to switch to the second workspace, wait a few seconds (until the
window with the "Go to left workspace ..." pops up) and then switch back. THEN
the window refreshes. Sometimes. If it does not, switch to the other workspace
again and wait longer before switching back.
This is on a Dell D620 with an nVidia "G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300]"
and a second Dell 2007FP display attached. I'm running the graphics in TwinView
mode (which means a manually configured xorg.conf, attached [see launchpad]).
Going to System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects shows that
"None" is currently active.
---
The problem seems a LOT worse when running with the two displays and with the
Source Insight window on the second (non-laptop) display.
When running in single-display mode (i.e. at home instead of work), the "new
source file window" problem does not seem to occur so much. The
"minimising/maximising" problem occurs all the time, whatever the display being
used.
---
I believe the last version this worked with for this user was 0.9.46 (the one
that came with Ubuntu Gutsy).

Does not get past the intro when starting the game. Instead, it falls back to
the console that is shown in the beginning, complaining:
FS_FOpenFileRead: name has a space (fonts/Creating STM %s...
.fontdat)
Note: this error message is generated by the game itself, not by wine. It is
printed in "Soldier of Fortune 2 Console".

Summary: Steam hangs in SteamStartup() attempting to connect to

Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc4

Gzipped output of WINEDEBUG=trace+relay wine Steam.exe
Running Steam results in strange behaviour on Solaris and OpenSolaris.
When Steam is first installed (using either the current MSI installer or an
older standalone installer), it successfully updates itself and automatically
restarts.
,
On restart, it spews extensive messages to the console about connection
attempts to all 100+ CSDS servers with latency.
For example, the last couple of lines are:
CellID: Connecting to 87.248.209.212:27031. . .
CellID: Connect to 87.248.209.212:27031 took 110 MS
CellID: !! Got Cell ID 2 from server 69.28.153.90:27031
It then makes no further progress and appears to hang. If interrupted with
Ctrl-C, it displays a "SteamStartup() failed" messagebox before exiting.
When started again, Steam.exe prints set of "CellID:" messages showing that is
is connecting to a particular server, then blocks for at least a minute, then
connects to a different server. This goes on indefinitely.
I'm attaching a WINEDEBUG=trace+relay log (to reduce log size, this Steam
instance was interrupted after about 30 seconds). I can't do
WINEDEBUG=trace+all because it results in an error message from Steam about
being unable to load SteamUI.dll.
This seems to be a network related issue, but I'm not entirely certain.

I have several Xservers with different geometry:
:0 - real Xorg server - 1280x1024
:1 - vnc server (or Xnest) - 1024x768
If I run any wine app first time in smaller X (:1) and then on bigger X (:0),
it gets corrupted outside 1024x768 region - exactly the size of smaller X.
If I use wine virtual desktop feature (X server does not matter), this bug
does not appear.
