Battlefield 2 lock-up log
The game loads as per normal, it then lets you log in, the cursor changes to
the BF2 icon which means you have logged in, but the game simply locks up at
this point, still showing the log in screen. You have to switch to a terminal
(ctrl+alt+F1) and kill the process.
This may be an issue with the 8.12 FGLRX drivers. Trying older versions of Wine
had no effect but the game did used to work (on ATi cards).
Looking for someone else to verify that it works on verions <8.12 and that it
still works on nVidia card and anyone else to verify that it doesn't work on
8.12 FGLRX.
Manually setting to unconfirmed. Log file attached.

I downloaded the free player installer, ymjsetup_24.exe.
Getting it to run was a challenge.
First symptom is, it just sits there forever scanning
the hard drive. That's installer brain damage; it
really is scanning all drives. To work around that, do
rm ~/.wine/dosdevices/z:
and put the installer in C: before running.
Next problem: it needs WinXP mode set.
Next problem: it needs WMP 9 installed. The WMP 9
installer fails at the end, but it's enough to get past this.
Next problem: you hit bug 5351, "Unable to find a volume for file extraction."
The workaround is
ln -s drive_c ~/.wine/harddiskvolume1
rm ~/.wine/dosdevices/c:
ln -s ../harddiskvolume1 ~/.wine/dosdevices/c:
OK, so here's the new problem: a dialog saying
KB891122 Setup Error
Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf.
Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer.
Happily, you can reproduce this more simply by downloading that wmp
update from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891122, and running
wine WindowsMedia-KB891122-x86-ENU.exe
You'll see something like this:

Upon upgrading to wine 1.1.9 and running "winecfg" to update the .wine folder,
warhammer refuses to patch. The error box that pops up says "The patch client
was unable to retrieve the file [patcher.prod.sig] from the patch server.
Please try the patch operation again in a short while."
I removed wine version 1.1.9 from my computer and installed wine version 1.1.8
again and it works. Then I upgraded again to wine version 1.1.9 and it fails to
patch. Downgrade and it works, upgrade and it does not.

Filing a bug so this doesn't slip through the cracks. Also, easier to

It installs fine however will not run and crashes wine.

Summary: libport compilation fails because widl isn't there
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: tools
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net

Hi there,
this is an issue introduced through commit id
dc1a9f19c1f4c462f1e68e0def50e9c09812bc71.
See this (changes to libport):
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=commit;h=dc1a9f19c1f4c462f1e68e0de…
The usual ./configure && make clean && make depend && make now fails very early
when doing make inside libs/port.
Error states that widl isn't found. Manually building it also fails. I first
had to do a manual make in libs/wpp and then tried tools/widl, which fails with
this message:
gcc: ../../libs/port/libwine_port.a: No such file or directory
To me this looks like some circular dependency thing going on. libs/port needs
widl and widl in turn needs libs/port.
Thanks to arethusa / scguy318 for bisecting this.
Greets,
Tobias
