I knew I was forgetting something: Using a (Hercules) Radeon 9700 Pro video card. Have the open-source drivers (xorg-video-ati or something) installed, as the proprietary AMD-ATI fglrx drivers (8.12) apparently refuse to be correctly installed right now. Not sure if that affects this issue, I thought they are non-related issues. Apart from that, I have an AMD Athlon 64 3000 with 1024 MB Ram. Unfortunately, to emulate DirectX Wine uses much more complex instructions that result in more strict requirements to video cards. It doesn't necessarily mean that everything will be slower with Wine on the same video card, but it often means that on older card nothing will work at all. Verify that DirectX is properly installed." I have just migrated completely to Linux (Xubuntu 8.10), installed Wine 1.1.11 so I can play Dawn of War and installed DoW successfully. But upon opening the Graphics Config utility I get that error message and afterwards a Graphics control window where I can only press "cancel" (the window is just a grey box). I am new to Wine but if you give me instructions on how to find/get/create log files I should be able to copy/paste them here. Otherwise I am not sure on how to give more info.
