This means for wine iexplore users, going to website that look for that header, i.e. http://www.google.com/, will always return webpages in the web server's default language choice rather than in the user's preferred language. To see what headers a web browser is sending, go to: http://schroepl.net/cgi-bin/http_trace.pl Internet Explorer will send the string in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Internals\AcceptLanguage as the Accept-Language header. With a clean .wine directory + gecko, Wine iexplore does not send anything. I can change what Wine iexplore sends by adding: user_pref("intl.accept_languages", "foo"); to prefs.js or user.js in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/username/Application Data/Mozilla/Profiles/MSHTML/hash/. However, when I enter a directory with a certain file in it (attached as nautilus-debug-log.txt), IrfanView crashes. Other files (images, text files) are fine. I have been unable to get a backtrace; gdb won't let me since the application exits with 01 status, and winedbg doesn't return to its shell after I typed "run" once. It's an X error, so maybe wine catches the error condition and "gracefully" shuts down. It seems to be a VB6 app, so I did winetricks vcrun6 vbrun60 before installing. This helped the installer complete without warnings about missing vb runtime. However, on startup, the app complains FileAnt needs a Microsoft file. Cool! So I tried a random real .net-1.1-ish app with mono-1.2.5. Running wine tax_Online-Banking_trial_buhlde.exe says that it wants to install three packages first: 1) .net 1.1 2) .net 1.1 german language 3) mdac 28 On my gutsy box, doing $ sudo dpkg -r msttcorefonts $ sh winetricks fakeie6 mdac28 corefonts mono12 and then set the .net 1.1 registry entries (gee, should winetricks mono12 do this?) $ cat > mono.reg <<_EOF_ REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v1.1.4322] "Install"=dword:00000001 "SP"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\policy\v1.1] "4322"="3706-4322" _EOF_ $ wine regedit mono.reg convinced it that .net 1.1 and mdac28 were installed -- but it still wanted to install the german language pack for .net 1.1. Doing $ mkdir -p /home/dank/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v1.1.4322/DE $ touch /home/dank/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v1.1.4322/DE/mscorrc.dll fixed that, and the app installs successfully. Starting the app with $ cd ~/".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Buhl/tax online-banking" $ wine Banking.exe failed because it wanted mfc42; $ sh winetricks vcrun6 fixed that. It installs and seems to run, but text is not displayed properly. Installing native riched20 improves the situation greatly (but even then, the bold and italics buttons don't work; perhaps you need riched30 or later for them to work). For instance, create a new blank page, then type "This is a blank page." But you can't start it; it complains fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"mscorlib" fixme:shell:URL_ParseUrl failed to parse L"System" ... This was investigated and tracked down to an extra '\' by A.F. in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10134#c20 Copying his comments here, since that bug was about dotnetfx install failure: Registering assemblies into GAC and pre JIT-ing (ngen tool) doesn't work right now due to a bug in shlwapi's UrlCombineW(). Fusion internally re-verifies paths before mapping dlls and rejects it. reduced: "c:\\test/" + "c:\\test\\mylib.dll" wine -> "file:///c:\\test\\mylib.dll/" (wrong) windows -> "file:///c:\\test\\mylib.dll" (correct, I wrote a small test case and tested with Windows XP SP2). I have followed instructions from a similar bug when I encountered an error with what I'm guessing is directX support (the instructions were: # In the install folder's 'Support/DirectX' folder, extract d3dx9_29.dll by running 'cabextract Feb2006_d3dx9_29_x86.cab', then copy d3dx9_29.dll to Wine's 'windows/system32' directory (usually ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32) # Place msvcr71.dll in Wine's 'windows/system32' directory Having done this, I now get a lot further in the output in console, but the game still does not load. It crashes for me too, with a message box: "Access Violation in password.dll". From a debug log it looks as if something goes wrong in comctl32.ImageList_Draw(). Using native comctl32 it starts fine for me.
