Running skype in wine, Windows ME mode. Trying to start a call fails, with
skype displaying this status in red: "problem with playback device". Strangely,
there seems to be a workaround - click the call button just after skype is
started, then it usually succeeds. May be related to the Skype "intro sound"
still playing just after skype is started?

I'm pretty sure this is trivial and I'm missing something here but whenever I
run Pokerstars, the window fonts render very ugly. I've Googled for this issue
and can't seem to find other people having this problem or a solution. I'm
running Sabayon 3.4 mini with Fontforge installed. I've looked at the font
settings in WineCFG but I don't seem to be able to change the right setting.
I'm thinking it could be a registry setting. If someone can lead me to the
right track on how to change this, i'd greatly appreciate it. I'll post
screenshots of this. I've only been able to reproduce this bug in PokerStars.
Oddly enough, when I copy all of the fonts from my windows installation to the
Fonts folder in drive_c, the font becomes bold.

Greetings,
A few weeks ago a friend of mine set Wine 0.9.41 to support Eve Online.
Other than a few of the graphical issues noted in previous bugs, I have seen no
issues, until I started moving from solar system to solar system. I am have
that I can warp anywhere within system without issue, however, when I attempt
to use a stargate, my system will hang intermittently.
Initially, I thought it might have been an issue with the Video card
overheating, or possibly memory issue, however, I have been able to eliminate
both of those as issues. Further, I have found that it does not matter if Eve
is in the foreground (covered over by another application such as firefox),
background, or in a window.
Please note that I did not start playing Eve until wine-0.9.41 come out, so
I have not tested previous versions, however, I have been able to replicate the
issue in wine-0.9.43.
When my system hangs, it is a complete system hang, CTRL-ALT-BKSP and SysReq
do not work. Additionally, just to be sure, I have tried to ping, ssh, and
even use a serial console and all of them fail.

To fix, simply replace

When windows/system.ini has more than 20 lines (not counting empty lines), AT1,
a game, gives a dialog box on start complaining about "memory access violation"
and crashes. When I remove system.ini or remove at least 4 random lines in that
file, I don't get this error. It doesn't matter which lines I remove, but
longer lines with more text seem to work better
So I tried to find out if this is related to file size instead, so I filled the
file up with single bytes until it wouldn't work anymore. Indeed, there appears
to be a limit to working file-size, but this limit depends on WHAT you fill the
file up with. Strange.
After additional testing, I also discovered that I get the same phenomena with
win.ini. If i remove it or a few lines in that file, AT1 also starts working
again. Even combinations of removing lines in both win.ini and system.ini work!
I have to say, this is the strangest bug I've ever encountered. But I swear I
can fully reproduce it.

Please help...
I am new to Ubuntu, and have read so much in the past few weeks in tutorials on
many apps for linux. When I first downloaded Wine program to install some of my
.exe files. It worked well with Macromedia and Photoshop. However just one day
after I rebooted the machine I tried to install another .exe file and I got a
screen that is totaly unreadable! This is the case for the "WINEFILE" THE WINE
REGKEYS AND 'A-N-Y' .EXE APP I TRY TO INSTALL. I installed the Photoshop via
Wine, but it was a blind walk through! Meaning I guessed at the "NExt" and
"Type of Install" buttons.. Once it installed, I saw an icon on the
desktop,..so I assumed it worked.. ONly problem is that the app wont execute
when I click on it. And to get into the Winefile I cant see anything.. I have
tried to uninstall Wine and put it back in as a fresh start, but nothing! I
have read the articles to those that are similar to my problem, and I have
removed the ttf- fonts, but still nothing..
Is anyone else having this issue?????

When I select this resolution (coming from 1280x1024), my second monitor

the text, it redraws it in the proper aspect ratio. The second monitor stays

Wine: 0.9.9-0ubuntu2 (tested also with 0.9.39 from winehq.org)
Kernel: 2.6.15-29-386 (2.6.15-29.58)
This is kernel bug, but affects only wine, so workaround in wine is easier.
When .exe is run from FAT partition, wine process gets stuck in kernel in "D"
state and cannot be killed.
I have straced the process and it appears it is stuck in:
ioctl(9, TUNIOCGETINFO or VFAT_IOCTL_READDIR_BOTH
This way user can prevent unmounting FAT partition by running wine on FAT
partition.
To reproduce:
1. Mount any FAT volume (for example USB pendrive)
2. Copy some file.exe file to it.
3. Run: wine /media/mydisk/file.exe
4. Wine hangs and cannot be killed.
Possible workaround is to recompile wine with "#define VFAT_IOCTL_READDIR_BOTH"
in dlls/ntdll/directory.c commented out.
I have checked that it works.

land should be rendered on top of the sea background, the sea is rendered

The demo doesn't have campaign mode, so no free download. Appdb comments seem

Error that appears when Portal is launched the first time
When I launch Portal 1.0 the first time I get the error that is
in the attachement.
Then I open winecfg and disable
PixelShader.
When I launch portal now it
quits with the graphical error
message that says:
"This game has a minimum requirement of DirectX 8.0 to run properly."
Now I open winecfg again and
re-enable PixelShader.
Now Portal runs fine.

Wine output for Launch.exe
After installation, which completed with no errors, I tried launching the
Launch.exe executable that the installer placed from the Terminal, which
resulted in a "not enough memory" error while attempting to load
KumaClientNet.exe. Trying to launch that executable manually results in a stack
overflow error in Terminal. As a side note, attempting to launch the executable
Kuma.exe results in an error that seems to have been previously reported in Bug
#9200.

Summary: Input Method's output overruns the buffer of wine
keyboard input
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.46.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux

Typing and entering over 8 letters in Japanese with input method, wine outputs
an error which says 'buffer overflow need n*3!' (n is the number of Japanese
letters here) , when input ignored and/or occationally the application will be
down.
There may be a patch for it somewhere on the Net but the patch's version is
very old and the patch I found may differ to what I want. So patching it is
awful for me.
Is there good information?
I hope the next or the near version of wine will be fixed that bug.
My best regards.
