On 0.9.36 I have a working installation of visio 2003. After upgrading to 0.9.42 visio ceases to work, failing with the message "iopl not enabled". Ditto for 0.9.43. After reverting back to 0.9.36, visio 2003 again works. Now when opening TagEditor, it is prompting Workbench but not seeing it (Workbench is opening although TagEditor says it can't open it). It installs fine on Wine, but after starting it insists on inserting the original CD in the CD drive although it is in the drive. A scan of the main executable with a copy protection scanner reveals Scanning -> c:\Programme\Klett\Mathetrainer 5\Mathetrainer.exe File Type : Exe, Size : 1231923 (012CC33h) Bytes -> File has 46094 (0B40Eh) bytes of appended data starting at offset 0121825h [!] Protect DiSC v6.2 - v6.8 (Build 12-07-2005) detected ! [!] exact version: Protect DiSC v6.2.5 ! [!] protection level: Basic According to http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_protections_protectcd.shtml this protection also refered as ProtectCD is a commonly used protection scheme. Other titles like "Need For Speed" and "Quake 3" make use of this protection scheme too. Trying to run the provided dosdrv.exe results in an illegal instruction when trying to load vddloader.dll. The instruction it seems to crash on is popl %gs in the vm86_[enter|return] assembly functions (in ntdll/signal_i386.c). I have an AMD X2 4200+ CPU which is a 64-bit CPU, however I'm running a full 32-bit system (32-bit Linux kernel and all; nothing 64-bit). I should also probably note that the app I'm trying to run through VDMSound (Daggerfall) does not crash with an illegal instruction, but complains that it can't run under Windows 3.1, and exits. VDMSound is supposed to help allow the game to run under real Win2k/XP. Attached is a +all,-gdi,-syslevel,-heap winedebug trace, along with the winedbg dump at the very end. You can search for "code=c000001d" to find the point where it crashes. I found another regression for this application, in that some surfaces do not get displayed correctly, and some show quick intermittent garbage in them. This does not happen with older versions of wine.
