There is no point, that's a compiz bug, file a bug report with its developers.

Well, yeah, except that it's not well enough understood to
be fixed by this summer. Unless, of course, Adobe steps
in and 'splains us what we're doing wrong.

This bug should be nominated for Wine 1.0 as it affects several important
applications as Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash.

Screenshot of the Warcraft 3 World Editor with the a wine version between
0.9.55 and 0.9.56
I tested the Warcraft 3 World Editor with the latest wine version.
The menu bar is now visible, but other parts still got overdrawn.
The Warcraft 3 World Editor uses Direct X for drawing.

Since the original problem was with Cinema 4D, I
think we can close this bug.
Can somebody open a new one specifically for
the thread problem with WoW?
I agree this is probably a case of WoW having a
fragile multithreading scheme that Wine screws up
on somehow.

The Cinema4D demo works on all cores as expected; I can't find any other
programs which display this problem.
Running WoW, I can see several threads in top, but only one of them shows any
activity. I've tried running a CPU intensive addon, but still one thread does
all the work. I wonder if maybe the sound thread uses a lot of CPU under
Windows but a negligible amount under Wine? Sounds unlikely, especially since I
have hardware sound turned off to prevent lockups in Alterac Valley.
I can't understand why the game would spawn extra threads and not use them.
Maybe it's using some fragile threadpool system that for some reason can't tell
that it would be a good idea to start farming out work to the extra threads.
TBH without knowing more about the game's internals I'm utterly at a loss as to
how to explain or reproduce this behaviour so, since it is playable, I think
I'll have to give up on this for now.

Programmer's Notepad no longer freezes when loading the help contents.
It doesn't display anything for help under any of the sections, but this bug
seems to be indeed fixed.

FWIW, AMD just open sourced their performance library under the apache license.
Appears to have some multi-threading stuff as well:

I keep getting this problem too.
I'm on a AMD Athlon 64 FX55 machine, with a Slamd64 12.0 and ATI X800XT with
AMD's Catalyst 8.2 (latest as of now) proprietary drivers. Direct rendering is
enabled.
I patched the game using l2encdec's patcher in order to edit the settings file
and adjust graphics settings, but launching the game through the included
launcher still throws this same error.
Sent wine output.

As of latest GIT we have an X11 window for the client window. Roughly speaking
this means that apps that have just a file menu and a 3d view now work too.
Like e.g. weatherscope and d3d sdk samples. Before the menu in such apps was
still black that should be fixed now.
So after this bug 2398 should be over for nearly all apps. Some apps like
truespace are doing very strange things but apps that behave normally should
work fine.
