This problem appears to also depend on the window manager used. For instance
I've been playing BF1942 with openbox as my window manager in a gnome session.
With this configuration I do not see the gnome panel. However, if I switch to
compiz instead of openbox then I do see the gnome panel on top of BF1942. Only
the window manager was changed, game and wine version remained the same.

I think that this bug is over now. Red Alert uses palette fading for a lot of
effects and we didn't support this. For instance when you enter the game menu
you should see some fade effect and also in game. Until today's GIT you didn't
see that, the screen stayed black for a while. Most likely this is the same
issue.

The AppDB indicates that fireworks 8 is OK in wine 0.9.51, but not in 0.9.53+.
However, although the program opens OK, when an attempt is made to open any
image the error message appear: "not enough memory".
It seems like the later versions of wine handled the memory differently???
(I am using a fully registered version, but I don't think it should make any
difference).

Received an email from the appdb saying I had screenshots to process in my
queue, provided with the link:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=screenshot_queue&bIsQueue=…
Upon visiting the link, says "Class screenshot_queue doesn't exist".
What happened here is also odd because logging into the appdb doesn't show any
queued screenshots either, I'm the only maintainer for the app. (Need for
Speed II)

I originally sent something only these lines to appdb(a)winehq.org where
suggestions are to go, but I thought I might enter it here also.
I have a feeling that there are a few appdb maintainers who are inactive, which
reduces the overall effectiveness and quality of the appdb. If appdb entries
have maintainers but the data is old, why are they still maintainers and is
there something that can be done to stop this from happening.
I have some ideas,
my first idea is that maintainers should be reminded to submit new test data
after each new release if no one else has.
If they cannot manage to do this they should get a warning that they aren't
meeting the responsibilities of a maintainer and will be removed.
If they still don't manage to make good on their commitment they should be
removed and a record made that they have been unreliable if they decide to sign
up sometime in the future, which might tie into the approval process.
This would include maintainers failing to approve or reject test data or
screenshots, (I think this is already in progress or done within the last few
days?)
My second idea is that might be useful is a link to list of apps that require
maintainers or test data, this way people can actively seek out to improve the
system by browsing lists appdb entries that,
a. need screenshots
b. need test data
c. volunteer as a maintainer to regularly do a and b.

For me, i can't comment on others:
This bug appears gone in 0.9.49.
In wine 0.9.50 to 0.9.55, graphical glitches make the game unplayable,
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11445 , so i don't think i can
effectively test 0.9.54. Sorry for not updating the bug sooner.

I can confirm the same issue also with Virtua Tennis 3 (but also with Virtua
Tennis 1.0 [demo, that you can freely download to test] and FIFA too).
I've tested many gamepads but none of these work properly with the mentioned
games, as I'd press the up button everytime...
I've also tried to change my /dev/input/event* and /dev/input/js* reading
permissions, but nothing changed, I only have to try the "regedit hack", but I
think that a patch for this is really much needed!!!

The very same error still occurs for me, Wine 0.9.55, fresh installation with
the most recent Silkroad Online installer.
For the record: I have 512 MB RAM.
Changing compatibility mode didn't help, changing installation directory didn't
help.

Summary: Sid Meier's Pirates! install fails with 1603 (failing to
request disk 2)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.55.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cycoone(a)hotmail.com
CC: cycoone(a)hotmail.com
Sid Meier's pirates install fails. The installation returns a 1603 error,
while the installer reports that it is copying 2K Games.url.
The console output shows:
err:msi:ready_media Cabinet not found: L"E:\\mnt\\pirates1\\Language.cab"
err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles Failed to ready media
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"InstallFinalize" returned
1603
err:ole:ClientRpcChannelBuffer_SendReceive called from wrong apartment, should
have been 0x1500000031
err:ole:xCall RpcChannelBuffer SendReceive failed, 8001010e
Language.cab is on Disk 2, so the installer should have requested that I switch
disks. I can personally attest this is a regression since 0.9.29, and AppDB
suggests it is a regression is 0.9.52. (There were no tests on 53 or 54)

OK, I can confirm that the problem doesn't appear anymore. Mouse input doesn't
get stuck, but is somehow "unresponsive" and kind of laggy. I don't know if I
can solve this next problem with some config tweaking, but if not I'm going to
open a new bug (going to open up some bugs anyway because the software renderer
crashes).
Greets,
Tobias
