The game starts up, changes the resolution and then crashes. Slowing down the execution (for example by using strace or WINEDEBUG=all) reveals, that a small window with three buttons on the bottom, one of which being "Start Game", appears for a very brief moment before it closes again and the game switches to fullscreen mode. At a first look the application seems to load fine but when i do file=>open file... and choose a quicktime movie (it was exported from keynote in mp4 and has points where the animation locks automatically waiting for the user to interact: that's why i can't use linux applications to see these... they don't support this) the quicktime window goes to the top left and after some seconds it closes itself. Running wine from command line reported an unhandled exception which wasn't there till last version. and the application seems to quit before the crash backtrace. Under Wine such conversion results to messed up display, the program's interface is very poor. A workaround is to manually convert skin bitmaps to 24-bit, then program work almost normally, however there some other glitches (track bars). The easiest way to show the bug is to run AlphaControls demo application under Wine. Joystick hatswitch is seen by wine as 2 axis and not as a POV, despite any modification in the registry of windows (as suggested here http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys ). The bug can be verified using a little windows utility "joytester" (available for download here http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Joystick-Tester.sh… ) and therefore it's not related to a specific application. My joystick is Microsoft SideWinder Precision 2 connected via USB and the POV is correctly detected under linux (UBUNTU 7.10) and tested with "jscalibrator". It runs ok in wine but doesn't see any traffic. Steps to reproduce problem: 1) Download and install orbit downloader 2) Make sure you have internet explorer installed 3) Run Grab.exe from orbit downloader install or from the Tools menu of Orbit Downloader 4) Open http://videolectures.net/gbr07_bunke_aqpa/ in IE and play video which amazingly does work in wine :) Nothing is captured by Grab. This is the same with videos from youtube for example. The only errors produced by Grab are err:listview:LISTVIEW_WindowProc unknown msg 204e wp=000003e8 lp=0034c384 I am on ubuntu 7.10 with wine 0.9.58. This was tested on the following system: Asus A8N-SLI-Deluxe Amd Athlon X2 3800 1.5 GB Kingston DDR Areca 1210 + several hd's Nvidia 6600 GT 128 MB (compiz / beryl not enabled, using Nvidia driver 169.12 ) I first downloaded and compiled wine 0.9.60 which didn't work. Then i grabbed the latest cvs and recompiled, didn't work either. This bug-submit covers the CVS version. Installed the game by mounting both iso's and -=> "wine autorun.exe" on the first cd. When the installer asks for the next cd, change the driveletter to your second wine mount (F:\ in my case, I HAD to use the keyboard). The in game menu's were functioning ok (mostly). Both gameplay and FPS were perfect. Too bad the game is only playable for a few seconds (quits when one enters combat). ==== What does not work: Playing the game for more than a few seconds. QT is critical to this program's function, so almost the first thing it does is try to kick off the QT installer; and this fails. Using the native MSI DLLs doesn't work either, as these work only under Win98, and this version of QuickTime only works with Win2K or above (you get a dialog complaining if the version is set too low). It appears that the installer is trying to run VBScript or something of that nature without first installing VBScript, and I can't figure out how to install that (I grabbed scripten.exe from MS, but it insists that it can't find anywhere to install itself and I haven't figured out why yet). (Output from qt installation run with DEBUG=msi attached.)
