--- Comment #37 from Jan Buecken <jb.faq(a)gmx.de> 2008-05-14 13:46:47 ---
Test on my system:
Changed my xorg.conf so that I used the vesa driver:
No transparency bug present.
Still present with nvidia-drivers-96.43.05
My system:
Set-Up:
Software:
Gentoo, Kernel 2.6.24-gentoo-r8
vesa-driver (in this test-case, usually nvidia)
git yesterday
Hardware:
lspci:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 440 Go
64M] (rev a3)
Whats the difference between vesa and nvidia-drivers? (I know, many things, but
if we ask the question belonging to this bug?)

Well, I applied the fix suggested by Dan Kegel and now i can run the EXEs. I
get the same problem on CONFIG.EXE, but the original bug reported is not there
anymore as far as I can tell.

This problem is still present in 1.0rc1. If you begin a new game, the new game
options screen freezes the mouse. Same behavior with both ATI and nVidia
graphics cards. Both systems tested were AMD64, one running Ubuntu 8.04 i386
and the other running Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64. Again, the BPP change error message
and some more ddraw errors that may or may not be informative:

- search for something
- click the piclens icon in your menu bar
- click on the black screen

New interesting test:
No masking problem of the mouse in Sacrifice (Demo) on this system
(on my system it is still present)
Set-Up:
Software:
Checked out git yesterday.
Ubuntu Linux
Driver:
It seems to me that the system only uses the vesa driver
for this hardware:
Hardware:
lspci:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G550 AGP (rev 01)
I know, very slow to play the game... I'm not the admin...
Maybe this helps to find the reason for this bug?
