The original Civilization III installs properly but when attempting to run the
game while the CD is mounted fails. When executing Civilization3.exe, it looks
like it looks for the CD properly while the CD is mounted but when it finds the
CD, I get a dialog box that says: DRIVE READ ERROR -- Please Insert
Civilization III in CD Drive -- Retry | Cancel. Clicking Retry only brings up
the window again. Also note, I have tried a NoCD hack and I get a different
error in that case:

16
err:xrandr:X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode Resolution change not successful --
perhaps display has changed?

The link above does not link to the actual submitted screenshot but to the app

which already has more then a dozen screenshots.

Summary: AppDB votes system is being cheated
Product: WineHQ Apps Database

Currently, there are 2 apps with obviously fake votes. These are
High Velocity Paintball
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=11442)
Silencer (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9823)
HVP has 2 test reports by teh same guy and no comments, yet it's listed that
>100 have voted for this app. This smells awfully like someone is trying to
cheat to get his app supported.
Silencer also doesn't seem to be legit.
These apps currently reside on the frontpage of AppDB without any
justification. It would be interesting to find out who voted for these apps and
if they were added by a bot. For the future, I suggest a captcha for
registration on AppDB.

Summary: wine prefers loopback devices over regular files
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rmh(a)aybabtu.com

fix loopback handling
When using a loopback device as a wine drive, wine will prefer to use the
loopback device (e.g. /dev/loop0) for volume access rather than the regular
file it's based on (e.g. ~/foo.iso).
>From dlls/ntdll/directory.c:
else if (!stat( entry->mnt_fsname, &st ) && S_ISREG(st.st_mode))
{
/* if device is a regular file check for a loop mount */
if ((device = strstr( entry->mnt_opts, "loop=" )))
{
char *p = strchr( device + 5, ',' );
if (p) *p = 0;
return device + 5;
}
}
I'm not sure if this has any advantage, but it has a big inconvenient. It's
almost certain that /dev/loop0 is owned by root and not world-readable, and
it's also mostly certain that wine isn't being run as root. If the image is
user-owned, by using the loop device we lose the ability to read it.
This typicaly causes breakage that is difficult to figure out. For example,
see
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=727&iTestingId…
Note: I'm filing this separate from bug 10957 because it's an unrelated issue.
The patch I'm attaching here collides with the one I sent for bug 10957, but
takes both situations into account.
