The Battlefield Vietnam installer blacks my whole desktop environment,
including my panels. It is GNOME 2.18.3 running on Fedora 7.
At first, no background image appears in the installer, which is okay. But when
the question appears if GameSpy Arcade should be installed, the desktop
environment is being blacked.
I am going to attach screenshots.
Please tell me which further information you need to fix the issue.

Summary: Civilization 4's custom mouse cursors do not display

Platform: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hein(a)kde.org
Firaxis' turn-based strategy game Civilization 4 includes a set of custom mouse
cursors, such as a rotating planet animation serving as busy cursor and a fancy
metal standard cursor. These custom cursors are displayed in the game on
Windows XP, but not in Wine. Instead, the standard white arrow Windows cursor
is shown at all times (regardless of cursor state, i.e. even when a busy cursor
should be shown).
Tested wine versions include v0.9.49 and today's git
(77ee756c91dfbacc4d42ae4f58f6b145bdc97876). The problem exists in both. The
Wine configuration is fairly untouched. The Windows version is set to
Windows 2000. Pixel and vertex shader support is enabled. Microsoft's MSXML 3
was installed and related DLL overrides added, which is necessary to run the
game.
The tested version of the game is the very latest, namely "Civilization 4:
Beyond the Sword" at patch level 3.13. "Beyond the Sword" is the second
commercial expansion/upgrade pack to the original title, and the preferred
version to play the game.
Testing was undertaken using nVidia's proprietary graphics driver in version
100.14.19 on a GeForce 8800 GTX, with X.org v7.3 (xorg-server v1.4) and Linux
v2.6.23.9. The distribution is Gentoo Linux.

fixme:thread:SetThreadIdealProcessor (0xfffffffe): stub
The recommended correction for directplay problems, from the wiki,

does not work. Using the native dplay dlls, creating the dll overrides, and
using regsvr32 to register them etc.
What does work is if you install MS directX 9 using winetricks

Taking the system32 directory from a wine which has been 'fixed' with DirectX
9, and pasting it into a standard wine install does not correct the issue.
Even when the overrides are added and all dp* dlls have been reregistered with
regsvr32. It appears to me that registry keys are added by the official DX9
installer which AoW2 and AoW2SM require.
For testing purposes, the demo of AoWII can be downloaded here:

Default values for DAC color palettes in VGA are not fully implemented. This
is a known issue in the "dlls/winedos/vga.c" source. References outside of the
first 16 colors produce black pixels.
This is relatively trivial to fix & I have fixed palette entries for the first
50+ colors in my personal build of Wine. Assign the bug to me and I can work
on this - especially since little/no work has been done to the VGA subsystem in
years.

+richedit log on 1.1.5
This one is a bit baffling. The rtf file looks fine when viewed with "wine
wordpad tslpatchdata/info.rtf", but not in the installer. The bug disappears
with winetricks riched20.
There is a header that should be centered, but instead is left-justified and
loses a few characters to the left of the window (or has them eaten by control
characters).
Regression introduced in 0.9.58, by:

Wine-0.9.58 + this reverted looks fine.
Revert on 1.1.5 has conflicts that I couldn't resolve off-hand.
