The audio editing app, Wavosaur doesn't run with Wine. It requires mfc42.dll. I
downloaded it from dll-files.com. After copying this file into
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 it still doesn't run, console output is
different - attached. Wavosaur doesn't need to be installed, it's just one .exe
file.

Still the same with retail.
And also the same crash (invalid float operation) with Underground 2&1 Demo,
NFS Carbon, NFS MW retail.

Summary: Max Payne Demo 1.05: rainbow texture artifacts on player
model
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net
Hi there,
I wanted to know if my system (Celeron M 1.5GHz, Intel i915 gfx chipset) was
powerful enough to run Max Payne, so I tested version 1.05 (latest) of the demo
on this system.
It works, but I encountered some visual errors. Looks like parts of the
character textures become rainbow colored (see screenshots for more details).
This problem is not permanent. It's happening randomly and so I suspect this
could also be a bug in the mesa i915 driver (so I'm filing a bugreport there
too).
Thanks,
Tobias

After this complete silence. Anyone working on this bug?
Is it so that there are two bugs? One in Full version appearing when Securom is
called and another in dsound3 hiding behind securom call but occuring in the
demo when securom call does not fail(exist) first.

I think it is quite common for the games try to detect "real" cdrom when
running, even when installing. We got cdrom emulator in the Windows, so I think
we may try to do the same for the wine. However, many cdrom emulator done the
job by register a another piece of driver, I don't know how can wine deal with
this...
Well, in fact I also fail to got one game installed, although I have the no-CD
patch for the game, but have no way to deal with the installer...

Hi have a reasonably old W98 program which I like to get up and running under
Wine. During the installation it says
axel@A30:~/.wine/drive_c/topo/topo.ins> wine testdir.exe c:\topo\topo.134
fixme:int:DOSVM_Int10Handler Get Font Information - Not Supported
err:int:TIMER_TimerProc DOS timer has been stuck for 60 seconds...
...and then it hangs. I think this exe checks for files in the directory, but
I'm not sure...

Ok, I went back over my changes and I had used winetricks to try to get
Warhammer Online to work. By working backwards, here's what I've discovered.
1) You must start the game with the directory the game was installed to as the
current directory, or the game will fail with an error opening the translation
file before even switching video modes to start displaying the intro
videos/menu.
2) A normal install gives the errors previously listed shortly after the menu
screen appears. The menu music does play in the background, but I don't see
the background animating. I've noticed it also doesn't display the intro
movie.
3) By installing DirectX9 redistributable first, the intro movie plays and the
menu no longer generates an error that it cannot find translation files, but
wine dies immediately at about the same point with an unhandled exception
complaining about division by zero (sounds similar to the exception that
Ascaron's exception handler was catching). I will attach the wine console
output as 'fixmes with DX9'.
4) By accident, I discovered that installing to a non-default directory of
C:\Games\Port Royale 2 gets past this. It is possible to choose menu options
to start a new free game or to start a new scenario, but both cause wine to
report an exception of "denormal float operand in 32-bit code" before actually
starting the game. I will attach the wine console output as 'fixmes at
newgame'. Installing to the non-default directory does NOT fix the issue in
step 2; only installing the DX9 redistributable has worked around that so far.
5) I can load a saved game that was saved at the map successfully, but if I
click on a city to enter it, the game closes and wine reports the "denormal
float operand in 32-bit code" exception that I get when starting a new game.
There's also some severe graphical corruption in the menu screen where the
reflective water should be. Disabling the reflective water options make the
water look normal, but then there's some weird discoloration in the menu
screen. At the world map, the water seems to be too dark a shade of blue. I
haven't really tested any further because the crash when trying to enter a city
makes it basically unplayable, and the need to install DX9 probably makes these
problems very difficult to isolate and fix. Hopefully, the original problem
can be found and fixed instead.

The crash log I attached occurs running the latest PTR build, which implies it
might affect alot of people once the PTR patch goes live, and not just owners
of the Lich King expansion. I would've said that in my comment but I think the
database went down as I pressed save ;)
So I agree with the previous poster that this bug should be re-opened.

Never mind, I created a new wineprefix, installed and started trying to play
from there and now I'm back to getting a "Could not find translation files"
error along with a "Microsoft Visual C++" runtime error. Clicking OK on the
translation error dialog box opens the Ascaron exception handler with an
EXCEPTION_FLT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO exception. This looks like the same bug reported
below, and is the same problem I was seeing in earlier versons of Wine.
This means I must have accidentally worked around this problem before while
working on something else without realizing it, probably while installing
winetricks to try to make Titan Quest work a couple weeks ago. I will begin
testing to see which one may be needed.

The translation error that was appearing in the main menu when starting,
leading to the crash manager, appears to have been fixed in Wine version 1.1.5.
I'm preparing to wipe out my Wine installation, reinstall PR2 from disc, and
see if it still works (and if it fixes any new problems that have since come
up). I will update this bug and create new bugs if needed when I've completed
retesting.
