Summary: Cannot compile Wine 1.1.17 from source on Mac OS X
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.17
Platform: Macintosh
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: build-env
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rwoodsmall(a)mac.com
Attempting to compile Wine 1.1.17 from source on an Intel Mac running 10.5.6
results in a premature exit. Using the same "configure" options I've used in
past versions (1.0.1, 1.1.15 and 1.1.16 recently), the build exists out when
building DLLs - I first see the error in dlls/acledit, and the error message is
"'stdcall' not supported for Win16" reported at acledit.spec lines 4 and 5.
Win16 has been explicitly disabled via the "--disable-win16" configure option.
I recompiled 1.1.16 and 1.1.15 both from source using the same configure
options, and they completed successfully, so this seems like a new issue in
1.1.17. Currently looking through the 1.1.16 to 1.1.17 diff to see what's
changed, but I'll attach the captured output of "configure && make depend &&
make" and the generated config.log and config.status files when the bug is
filed.
Couldn't find if this had been reported previously, and I'm not using MacPorts
or Fink - just compiling straight from tar.bz2 file. Thanks!

Logs of me trying to run two programs.
I have Wine 1.0 on Mac OS X Leopard, Intel chips. I was able to compile the
code successfully, and OpenGL was found. However, when I tried running two
programs, I was given the following message:
err:wgl:X11DRV_wglGetProcAddress No libGL on this box - disabling OpenGL
support !
My steps in more detail were as follows:
1) Download Wine 1.0, configure. I'm warned of missing features: I install at
least libxml and libxslt. I tried installing libjpeg, and while I got that
installed, Wine didn't recognize it. I probably found the wrong version.
2) Make depend, make, and make install all worked.
3) I tried XVI32 first (website here:
http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm ). It's a
simple Hex Editor. It ran, but not that great. See the attached file up to
when the program closes. That is the first instance of the error message given
above of disabling OpenGL support.
4) I then tried a beta version of Zelda Classic (think Zelda 1 simulator with
enhancements: main website here: http://www.zeldaclassic.com with beta
locations here: http://shardstorm.com/ ). After having to rename/copy a dll
file, I tried running the program, only to get...well, see the attached log
file. For those that don't: program doesn't even run (hence, critical
priority).
I am unsure as to why I wasn't warned of OpenGL problems on ./configure here.
On the older versions, I was told if OpenGL wasn't found. Here, ./configure
claimed it found it, and yet it gets disabled on runtime.
If there is anything else you guys want me to test with this, let me know.

No sound output on playback. When I press the play button, a dialog pops up:
One or more of your selected MIDI devices are failing to open.
Would you like to go to the MIDI options tab to investigate?
In the MIDI options tab, nothing is listed under the "Available play devices:"
list, and "Wine midi mapper" is listed under "Devices used by play back:". If I
click OK without changing anything, another dialog pops up:
The following play devices failed to open properly:
Wine midi mapper
This problem must be corrected before proceeding.
If I move "Wine midi mapper" to the "Available play devices" list and hit OK,
the MIDI options tab closes, and the piece begins to "play": the notes are
highlighted one after another as normal, but there is no sound.
I believe this bug may be related to bug 9629.

Noteworthy Composer v1.75 fails to find printers on when running through wine
(installed via macports) on Mac OS X Leopard. When the user tells Noteworthy to
print, it responds with an error window saying:
Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a
document, you need to install a printer. Please install one and retry.
In addition, the following message is printed to the Terminal:
fixme:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters We don't handle PRINTER_ENUM_CONNECTIONS
However, when following the identical steps while running Noteworthy though
Darwine (installed from http://thisismyinter.net/?p=47), printing works. The
error message to the GUI and Terminal are not present, and the printing dialog
pops up. Printing appears to work as expected.
Please note that this is NOT a Darwine bug: Darwine does this *correctly*.
Ideally, the Darwine codebase for print handling should be merged into the wine
codebase, so that wine can handle this correctly, as well.

wineinstall doesn't work
wineinstall is rather poorly written install script (root id checking by -w /,
come on...). I had to modify it at least to let me go through the initial
checks.
I did ./configure manually before (with some flags).
wineinstall correctly noticed that and went straight to compiling (dunno if
make or make depend, docs say it was make).
It failed with this line:
gcc -m32 -g -O2 -o fnt2bdf fnt2bdf.o ../libs/port/libwine_port.a
i686-apple-darwin8-gcc-4.0.1: ../libs/port/libwine_port.a: No such file or
directory
make: *** [fnt2bdf] Error 1
I'm including whole trace in attachement.
Here I would like to ask if there is any reason to keep and maintain +1 script
which could be done without pretty much fine (what's wrong with ./configure &&
make depend & make install?).
I found one similar bug #11618

ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
This is a Mac-specific variant of bug #17234, but the symptoms are different
enough to variant a separate entry.
In Motocross Madness 2 Demo, when moving the mouse over one of the buttons in
the entry menu, it may happen that the complete wine desktop window content is
flipped upside down. When it happens, it's systematic, i.e. it flips every time
the mouse hovers over a button.
OTOH I've also been able to start the application without any such flipping
effect. In that case it reappeared after switching to another Mac window,
causing wine to refresh its display.
I'd say the probability is 50% of the effect appearing when launching wine.
Another glitch, when there's the tilting effect, is that the screen size
resolution pop-down list is transparent, and also flipped.
Once starting without flipping, the app seems to work well (I did very limited
testing).
Using an "early 2009" NVidia Mac Mini with Mac OS 10.5.7, XQuartz 2.3.3.2,
wine-1.1.21, self compiled without Fink or Macports. I still need to do
comparative testing with Kronenberg's wine binary.
To test, I've copied the MCM2 app directory plus the one registry entry over
from a Linux install and have not tested if the downloadable archive is
installable on Mac or whether it suffers from the 16bit winevdm crash bug.

The backtrace that Henry Verbeet asked for in bug #18956 is attached.
While I was at it, I added a different backtrace about the crash that occurs
when attempting to use RenderTargetLockMode=readtex, also a non-default

In both cases the crashes happen in Apple's glgProcessPixelsWithProcessor when

I noticed that every time D3D fails to render a character (or a group of
characters), this (or something like it) shows up in the log:
fixme:d3d_surface:surface_upload_data >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
GL_INVALID_VALUE (0x501) from glCompressedTexImage2DARB @ surface.c / 526
3D graphics appear to be otherwise unaffected.
I didn't actually start a game; this even happens in the menus. It is
particularly noticeable on the Settings screen (from the main menu, expand the
Options menu, then click on Settings). You can't see any of the text in the
drop-down list boxes, and if you're REALLY unlucky, some of the title text will
be missing.
It's been like this with GLSL as long it's worked under Wine on Mac OS. (It
doesn't work at all under ARB. By the time the necessary functionality was
implemented, ARBvp was broken on Mac OS.) From what I can tell, it works fine
on Linux, so this might be a bug in Xquartz instead of Wine. Perhaps I should
file a bug with the Xquartz people as well.
Setting the offscreen rendering mode to backbuffer doesn't help. Neither does
turning off rendering fonts with XRender. (It doesn't work at all with pbuffer
as the offscreen rendering mode.) Even turning the in-game settings all the way
down doesn't help.
My computer is a Santa Rosa MacBook Pro with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7700
CPU and an nVidia GeForce 8600M GT GPU. I'm using THE driver for Mac OS (the
one that came with the OS). I'm pretty sure that this is NOT a dupe of bug
16146.

Wine's errors starting ZAN.EXE
Initially I thought this was a Securom issue, but the real problem seems to be
different. I have been trying to load an Italian dictionary program (ZAN.EXE)
off a CD, but it crashes every time.

Log file from Darwine
When you produce an archive in Paquet Builder, during the stage when the files
are compressed you get a page fault and the archive build fails. Regardless of
the compression algorithm used, you are unable to build an archive due to this
page fault.
Reproduction steps:
1. Install Paquet Builder
2. Play around with some settings
3. Add some files to your package
4. Build the package
5. Notice the error.

darwine 1.1.15 googlecode build -- with ie6
TntMPD has a feature where you can connect to a web service and download all
donations for your account into TntMPD. Click the "Gift Input" button. This
is one of the most useful features of TntMPD in my opinion.
This feature gives an runtime error in TntMPD. There is no obvious module that
is at fault, as far as I can tell, but maybe someone with more experience with
Wine can specify a module.
I'm on a mac and ran three tests:
1) http://darwine-builds.googlecode.com/files/Darwine-x86-1.1.15.dmg build,
with ie6 installed using winetricks.
relevant files: screen1.png, tntmsg1 (the text of the debug info TntMPD
gives), trace1 (wine's output), winecfg_libraries_1a.png and 1b.png (screenshot
of winecfg Libraries tab)
2) same build as 1), but without ie6
relevant files: screen2.png, tntmsg2, trace2, winecfg2.png,
3) macports wine-devel 1.1.15, without ie6. I notice this doesn't have an
error about wininet missing libssl.0.9.7.dylib on the output, but it still
gives an error in TntMPD.
relevant files: same as 2), plus trace2_macports_devel
