Happened to try this game:
1f5071f09be6ca64ff7de0d7773710be4c398e1d Men-of-War-Demo.zip
With a clean .wine, it aborts quickly on startup with dialog

and log
fixme:d3dx:D3DXCreateEffectEx (0x196ed0, 0x3f2be48, 4532, 0x1fbf330, 0xda8c30,

fixme:d3dx:ID3DXEffectImpl_GetParameterByName (0x1d2c70)->((nil), PS): stub
winetricks d3dx9_36 seems to work around this and let me play the game.
Interestingly, this game seems to compile shaders on first startup
and cache them in ~/my games/men\ of\ war\ demo/shader_cache
so if you remove all DLL overrides and rerun, it fails later with
wine: Call from 0x7edd7053 to unimplemented function
d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXFilterTexture, aborting
It looks like Owen is working on that function,
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2010-May/088732.html
Not sure what the status is.
Let's make this bug about the latter problem, since that's probably solvable
first.

(Note: I am not sure how legal this game in itself is; it is a fan project
based on licensed characters after all. Sega doesn't seem to be stopping them
though.)
I have tried this game and found that while the graphics look good and don't
cause any fixme's whatsoever, I cannot play the game because keyboard input is
not read or accepted. Because of this, pressing enter (the default key for
"start") at the title screen does absolutely nothing when it should be
continued.
Terminal output is attached.
Tested on a clean Wineprefix, Ubuntu 10.10 with Wine 1.3.5.

terminal output
I cannot get past the main menu in Spectromancer: as if mouse clicks didn't
register when clicking on any of the menu items.
To reproduce the problem in the demo:
After launching the demo only the background is drawn: you have to click on the
lower left part of the screen and the menu appears. Here comes the trouble:
after clicking on any of the menu items nothing happens. Oddly enough if you
press the <ESC> button and the left mouse button in turn, while the mouse is
over one of the menu options, the corresponding window flashes for a brief
moment but it vanishes almost instantly.
The same problem happens back until Wine-1.2-rc2. Previous versions don't even
start the game correctly.

Summary: Bottom of windows cut of with KDE4 Dual-Head Setup
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.37
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: m.duelli(a)web.de
I am running a KDE4 dual-head setup, i.e. two parallel monitors, on Gentoo.
I have the KDE control bar displayed only on the left screen.
When I start MS Word 2007 via wine 1.1.37 and place it on the right screen
(which does not have the control bar!) I can see a cut off bottom when I
maximize the window via the window manager.
I will attach two screenshots:
- The first shows a window which fits to the screen as if there was also a
control bar on the right screen.
- The second shows a maximized window on the right screen with the bottom cut
off
Note:
I also tried to manually resize the window to the maximum of the screen.
This basically works at first, but when you change between applications, the
bottom of the manually resized window is also cut off.

Terminal output for Bioshock 2 launcher -- release date check
Upon first launch Bioshock 2 will connect to the internet and attempt to
validate the release date. This gets stuck at 30% and never completes.
Sometimes it times out with an error.
I should note that some web searching shows this occurs sometimes on Windows as
well, and that there is a manual workaround if needed:
http://www.digitalworksweb.com/securomsupport/bioshock2_unlock_rc/
Looking at the terminal output points to some unimplemented information classes
in ntdll as the most likely culprit.
