Summary: Sigmaplot 10 demo refuses to start; license manager
problem?
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.55.
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.systat.com/products/sigmaplot/
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
A user asked whether Sigmaplot worked
(
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/winesigmaplot-6204…
)
so I tried the current demo of Sigmaplot 10.
It seemed to install ok, but refused to start, saying
"Handle used on call did not describe a valid licensing system context."
"No such feature recognized by server"
"Application has not been given a name."
Right before making that complaint, it tries to open files
lshost and lshostname, and broadcasts a UDP packet of size 1432 to
port 5093 on the LAN. So it seems to be using Sentinel license manager.

Looked at this because of a complaint at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=650937
The trial download of Nikon Camera Control Pro
installs ok, but when you start it, it
says there are zero days left in the trial.
Looking at +relay I see it does things like
CreateFileA("\\\\.\\SICE",...
so I imagine it's copy protected. It seems
to come with a .sys file, too. Bleah.

But when the version is set to 2000 or XP there is a dialog that saying that

not SP4) but for WinXP all the data seems correct.

Wine should use the user's system setting for the subpixel font smoothing.
For bonus points, it should realize when the font smooting setting is changed
and adjust automatically.

I've got wine 1.1.42 running on an FreeBSD-8/amd64. This was built using a
chrooted i386,
http://wiki.freebsd.org/Wine#head-6963d527c173e57b1567e881305b544d33435b6d
Corefonts have been installed using winetricks.
The EVE Online client installation was successful, and the game performs as
expected presenting the login screen. However, any attempt to login returns:
"Connection Failure: Handshake Error"
Googling around reveals that a possible patch at:
http://eve-search.com/thread/1240674
However, I cannot inspect the patch tarball as the link is out of date. One of
the patch is for SSE detection on FreeBSD (for Audio), the other is for
dlls/iphlpapi/ifenum.c - which is where I suspect the problem lies.

Summary: Wine doesn't work well with Jack 2 (jackd)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc1
Platform: x86
URL: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=58141
8
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jkohen(a)users.sourceforge.net
Debian recently pushed to unstable and testing Jack 2 (jackd) in place of the
previous version. I've noticed that this had a strange effect on Wine. Every
time a process starts, Wine prints the following to the console:
Cannot connect to server socket err = No existe el fichero o el directorio
Cannot connect to server socket
jack server is not running or cannot be started
Then it hang for a couple minutes there. Finally the process resumes. Sort of.
For instance, the "updating configuration" windows, when it appears, never
disappears. Mass Effect on Steam never starts up.
All the issues above go away once I downgrade back to libjackd 0.118+svn3796-3,
which is Jack 1. Running the Jack 2 daemon with Jack 2 gets me past the delays,
but Mass Effect still doesn't work.
My sound system is ALSA and Wine is set up to use it. I don't have any custom
ALSA configuration in my home dir or in /etc.
Surprisingly compiling Wine with --disable-jackd ad removing all the
winejack.drv* files from my system doesn't seem to make a difference. I've
tried Wine 1.1.42, 1.1.44, and 1.2-rc1. For the first I used the Debian
compiled version, for the latter two, my own, and all give the same behavior.
