I remember playing KOTOR1 not very long ago and I don't think it took that long
to install. I can try to install it again soon and see how much time it takes.

Clean wine, already installed interstate 76 outside wine dir, with cdemu
mounted cd image, tried to run as it ran before, crashed in smackerw32.dll with
some sound corruption too. Deleted wine dir and starting reinstalling again,
with the export LANG='en_GB.utf8' workaround.
Setup image was corrupted and it crashed on a dll too. Only thing i can think
of that changed was upgraded kernel. cdemu is a kernel module so i uninstalled
and installed again just in case - no difference.
uname -a :
Linux AIVAS 2.6.32-24-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 19 01:38:40 UTC 2010

I attach the clean wine setup crash, if you also want the game copy
smacker32w.dll one it is also possible (but i thought it wouldn't interest you
since it's a unusual configuration of the game).
Wine was tried on win98 and win95 compatibility modes before running both exe -
no change.

Summary: wine 1.3.1 ignores winecfg's "Emulate a virtual

To reproduce:
1. Run "wine winecfg"
2. Under the Graphics tab, enable "Emulate a virtual desktop"
3. Close the window and run "wine winecfg" again
Note that the winecfg window is not inside of a virtual desktop.
The reason I use virtual desktops is because so many games on wine seem to
forget to restore my desktop resolution when they exit or crash. It also allows
me to keep my monitor at its native resolution (1920x1080) even while playing
old games that only support the old traditional 4x3 resolutions (640x480,
800x600, 1024x768).

console log (orm=backbuffer) wine-1.3.1-135-g2c127dd
The issue still persists using wine-1.3.1-135-g2c127dd and the game patched to
1.79.
After starting the game it seems to be hanged. Just be patient, after 1-2
minutes of waiting the menu will appear. Clicking on <Play> results the 'whole
screen is black' issue, already mentioned here. To prevent that you have to
disable in-game music in ../data/Settings.txt.
Now you can get to the game's menu but every screen is shown upside-down and
the mouse pointer moves in reversed.
To fix that I changed ORM to 'backbuffer' in the registry.
I was able to start a new game or the tutorial but the whole game suffers from
extreme lagging (e.g. mouse movement). Creating a new game takes a ridiculously
huge amount of time, too. It also crashes fairly often with an <Access
violation...> when clicking on <end turn>.
The console is literally flooded with the following lines:
err:ddraw:PixelFormat_WineD3DtoDD Can't translate this Pixelformat 64
err:ddraw:PixelFormat_WineD3DtoDD Can't translate this Pixelformat 58
To sum it up it's hardly playable but can be started at least, with
orm=backbuffer and disabled music.
I haven't tried native quartz.dll and others.

When I try to install this software, I got the "Cannot read access control

After clicking ok 2 or 3 times, the setup goes on and ends without any other

Moreover, the software works perfectly in wine so I'm just reporting this bug

console log running the demo
When I run the game: Chrome (an FPS shooter) or its sequel: Chrome-Specforce in
Wine's fullscreen mode, the only available resolution is 800x600. Running it in
virtual desktop mode I have more choices: 800x600, 1024x768 and 1152x864.
After changing the resolution anything above 800x600 and restart the game in
fullscreen mode, Wine crashes with an unhandled page fault.
How to reproduce the issue in the demo:
1. Install the demo, start it: in the Options menu there is only 800x600
available (assuming you're running in fullscreen mode).
2. Exit the game, change to virtual desktop mode, start the game again: now
more resolutions are available. Select 1024x768 (or higher) and exit the game.
3. Switch back to Wine's fullscreen mode and restart the demo: it will crash.
The crash always generates a crash.log file in the game's directory, looking
into the file shows the game doesn't detect resolutions above 800x600 in
fullscreen mode.

I compiled the recently released wine 1.3.1, and i'm in a predicament related
to the sound configuration, that never happened in previous wine versions.
Whenever i try to configure sound, using winecfg, wine crashes. Running
applications, just end with the same exact crash, providing i select alsa, with
any other sound driver (or with sound disabled, evidently) it doesn't. Here is
a debug log - http://freetexthost.com/4j0ktn1peb.
I already disabled pulseaudio, so its not related with that.
So i ran a regression test, and this was the result:

d3dx9_36.dll.D3DXCreateTextureFromFileExA, aborting
I guess it could be rewritten to not use a file but it is still an issue.
Happens with wine 1.2 and 1.3.
I could install the MS DX9 libraries but I wanted to test some demos the
libraries I normally use which are the Wine ones AFAIK.

There's a testfile to download and notepad is builtin to wine. You can test
this yourself in 30 seconds...
Yes, still in today's git.

Hello,
this 16-bit garbage is nasty to look at .. do we really need this? ;-)
It seems the corruption happens much earlier. The files under
"c:\CBLIGHT\MESSAGES\[locale]\" are key-value like (message) text files.
Even the german "c:\CBLIGHT\MESSAGES\DEUTSCH\texts.msg" which is unpacked
earlier is corrupted (you can tell by looking at the end).
Interestingly it's not detected as CRC failure unlike the english one.
The files are stored as embedded "resources" in the 16 bit .exe file.
Seek to resource "header" offset:

I placed a breakpoint in _hwrite() and dumped the buffer - it seems the plain
text is already corrupted at this point.
So it seems to happen while unpacking the memory chunk... unfortunately there
aren't any visible 16/32-bit Windows API calls at this place.
That 16 bit unpacking code works on internal storage so neither +heap nor
valgrind can detect internal memory overwrites, if any.
The stack switching shouldn't be a problem - as long as no other 16 bit code
from other threads accesses areas where the unpacker switched its stack on
(same ds segment).
There is only one other thread present which pulls in when this thread triggers
message processing:

The GUI was responsive but slightly sluggish with minor graphical distortions,
small black blotches would be found all throughout the screen. As well, I could
navigate around the iTunes Store.
However, once I tried to subscribe to a free podcast, iTunes Store started
going in and out of grey, with dialog box "Distnoted.exe" crashing appearing
every 20-30 seconds. As well, iTunes noted it had an error communicating with
iTunes (uh huh, my internet connection is just fine, hehe). Distnoted.exe
crashing and GUI unresponsiveness are highly correlated.

I found this regression using the git version of Wine: several of the tested
games (they're older ones, using DX 7/8) fail to start. Some of the games have
known issues in Wine and I occasionally re-test them to verify the issue is
fixed or not. All of them worked (at least they started) fine in Wine-1.3.0.

Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition crashes in Wine 1.3.0 with Mesa DRI. It runs
without crashing in Wine 1.2.
The attached log was produced with the command:
WINEDEBUG=+wgl wine game.exe
Some details:
* OS is Debian Lenny 5.0.5 with Mesa 7.0.3-7 (relatively old) using the r300
DRI Mesa driver.
* Crashes in both direct and indirect rendering modes.
* Crashes for both built-in and native DirectX 9.0c DLLs (native installed with
winetricks 20100811).
* Does *not* crash for software rendering mode (AIGLX disabled).
* Crashes regardless of 'Vertex Shader Support' and 'Allow Pixel Shader (if
supported by hardware)' settings in winecfg -> Graphics -> Direct3D.
Of note:
* Disabled audio so 'dsound' errors do not litter the log.
* Debugging aborted as thread(s) would not release.

Regression test result
Version 1.3.0 introduces a bug with Starcraft 2, where the actual game screens
are rendered mostly upside down. Version 1.2-rc7 (and presumably 1.2 itself)
doesn't have this problem.
I'm currently using an ATI 4870 card with the proprietary drivers, on an x86_64
machine running Debian Sid.
Relevant-looking registry settings are:
"OffScreenRenderingMode"="backbuffer"
"DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl"
This bug (as well as another problem with setting the in-game shader settings
above 'low') does not appear when "OffScreenRenderingMode" is set to "fbo". In
"fbo" mode, however, the majority of screen real-estate is too garbled to be
usable.
Since this is a regression I performed a regression test and the results are
attached. I'll also try to upload a screenshot of the bug.

Fix for FrameMaker 8 exit crash
FrameMaker8 runs fine with wine (provided that the Arial font is avail, e.g.
from apt-get install msttcorefonts). But while exiting the program, the console
shows 'BUG: holding USER lock' while Frame tries to open the "Internal Program
Error" dialog box. For this reason, all changed settings never made it to the
maker.ini file (such as display options or last window position). Root cause:
the following func does never return (SEGV)
Call user32.GetClassInfoExW(00400000,00a175e0 L"DockWnd32",00000000)
This looks like a Frame bug that is never triggered with MSWindows. I presume,
that the MSWindows API is more tolerant here. I'll attach a small patch to fix
this. Fix applies to my ubuntu 1.2-1.1.42 version but should do on current GIT
also.

kintecus missing ipconfig.exe output when trying to generate ID
Kintecus creates a 'unique computer ID' which you need for the program to run.
this is created when the program starts for the first time. at this point it
crashes in wine with the following output:
wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\ipconfig.exe"
File not found
(see the attachment for the complete output)
essentially, it is not missing 'ipconfig.exe' but it's output, i.e. it doesn't
use 'ipconfig.exe' to make changes but only to gather information about your
machine.
a solution was provided here:
http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=46634#46634
essentially, a fake but executable 'ipconfig.exe' is set up, that echoes the
normal output of the real ipconfig.exe.

CMake hangs when trying to detect a usable Compiler, preferable MinGW, assuming
`-G "Unix Makefiles"' has been set as commandline argument.
CMake is also consuming a significant amount of CPU.
Excpected output when running cmake natively (example):
$ cmake .

-- The CXX compiler identification is GNU
-- Check for working C compiler: /usr/bin/gcc
-- Check for working C compiler: /usr/bin/gcc -- works

Actual Output:
$ wine cmake . -G 'Unix Makefiles'
-- The C compiler identification is GNU
-- The CXX compiler identification is GNU
-- Check for working C compiler: C:/MinGW/bin/gcc.exe
(... nothing happens, just consuming CPU)
MinGW is installed into C:\MinGW, CMake (latest version from cmake.org) is
Installed into C:\CMake.
The projectfile (CMakeLists.txt) is working properly, and I've tested the
project successfully on Windows XP SP2, using exactly the same CMake version,
creating projectfiles for MinGW, VisualStudio and SunStudio, so it's most
certainly not the CMakeLists.txt who's causing the bug.

Summary: X3 Terran Conflict (v 2.5) - intermittent cursor
problems
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.31
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: DavidWalley(a)googlemail.com
Cursor response is less smooth than in native Windows, and occasionally the
cursor seems to get "jammed", typically in "down".
Can usually be fixed by waiting, typically by moving cursor in opposite
direction, but not always.
This can be alleviated, though not entirely eliminated, by use of mouse rather
than cursor keys wherever possible, and trying not to hold one of the cursor
keys for extended periods, particularly when navigating long lists in menus.
Similar effects seen in X3 Reunion.

Debug output of DPP under Wine 1.1.23
Starting with Wine 1.1.24 (from Fedora repos), attempting to view images at
100% zoom in Canon Digital Photo Professional editor windows results in those
windows (which I believe run as a separate application) quitting unexpectedly.
This function works fine with Wine 1.1.23.
I have attached logs from WINEDEBUG=warn+all for both versions. The only major
difference I have observed is the presence of messages like
wine client error:25: write: Bad file descriptor
with Wine 1.1.24.
[Canon DPP (updater) 3.6.1 may be downloaded from
http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010513.asp (AppDB 1988).
Unfortunately, the installer for it is broken under Wine (Bug 16817); to get it
to work, I have to install a 3.4 version, install the 3.6 under Windows, and
then copy the files.]

This is a new bug in 1.1.21. It was working on 1.1.20, but generally 1.1.21
with PC3 works better. Some effects look better in 1.1.21. The only problem is
that you wont see any cars. Ghost cars are working and you can see all of the
car shadows.
This has to do something with the new shader code in 1.1.21. It did a step to
the right direction, but caused this minor regression.

I have a program that runs regedit on a file where lines are separated by CR
characters on their own (no LFs anywhere!).
On Windows XP this works but in Wine it fails as regedit considers this to be
all one big line.
To reproduce one could use the following perl script to create a suitable test
file:
---
#!/usr/bin/perl
print "REGEDIT4\r";
print "\r";
print "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Foo]\r";
print "\"Name\"=\"Val\"\r";

Now and then I try the 2.0 beta version of Seamonkey (what used to be
"mozilla"), at times right when started, at times after some (short) time, it
stops drawing images, including GUI. (The GUI has the room for buttons, but
they aren't filled in)
I've seen the same with Firefox 3.1 beta but not as often/fast (which kinda
makes sence as they share a lot of code)
I'm not seeing fixme's or errors that would seems related, didn't try
traces/warns (wouldn't really know what to look for anyway)

Summary: Bugs with EssentialPIM

Decriptions of bugs found using EssentialPIM
(http://www.essentialpim.com/?r=download)
System:
* EssentialPIM Pro 2.81 (most probably the same bug applies to the Free
version), installed
* Ubuntu Hardy
Three notable bugs:
1. If "Minimize to system tray" (tools -> options -> general) is chosen, the
minimization works fine.
now, there are two ways to restore:
a) right click on the icon, the select "restore": this works fine
b) left click on the icon: (BUG) the window is not restored, and the icon
disappears.
This bug is reproducible every time, and it never happens in windows.
2. In "Notes", the default text (I'm in wine now, so I can't see which one
exactly - I suppose Times New Roman) renders correctly underlined, italics and
strikethrough,
but (BUG) doesn't render at all the bold; it marks it as bold, but the text
is still plain. This never happens in windows.
3. Some times when launching the main executable, (BUG) a message "essentialpim
won't run in debug mode for security reasons" appears
and EPIM exits.
This message never appears in windows, and has an occurrence of about 1/15
on wine.

On an Ubuntu Intrepid system, with pulseaudio 0.9.10-2ubuntu9:
In wine-1.0.1, 1.1.0 sound in this game is fine.
In wine-1.1.6 ... 1.1.9, it's a little worse, and breaks up once in a while.
Still usable, though.
In wine-1.1.10, it's much worse; it's as if it's looping each
eighth of a second for a second. Sure makes the game go slow.
So slow that you can't get past the first screen. Unusable.
I'll attach a +dsound log.
