Summary: Bizarre video glitch when trying to play Halo: Combat
Evolved.
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC

ReportedBy: ssjgoku75x(a)aol.com
((I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty with the latest version of Wine (1.29). I seem to be
having some strange video problems when I try to play Halo under Wine. I have
the same problem that the fellow who post bug 12303. Except the screen is just
black. The only time there is actually picture is when it's play the opening
credits (The videos of all the game companies behind them Bungie, Microsoft,
etc.) Then the main menu is just black, but yet there is still sound. I turned
off Virtual desktop and this is what happened to my entire screen when I tried
it without a virtual dekstop (which I know shouldn't have been done but it
still should've went back to normal) when I closed out in the screenshot
attachment below.
Everything got smushed together.
How do I resolve this issue? Thank you! (Note: I'm more focused on eliminating
the whole "Black screen" issue more than anything.
Video Card info:
(It's a laptop might I add.) 64MB Nvidia GeForceFX 5600 (0x0312)
I hope this info helps! THANK YOU!!! ^_^

With wine-1.1.35-105-gd4a7a9d, when the color picker in the What Colour program
is selected, moving the mouse outside the What Colour's client area doesn't
result in any color selection changes until the mouse is pressed, causing the
application to finally grab the color under the mouse cursor by presumably
taking a "screenshot" of the desktop area. On Windows XP, this "screenshotting"
behavior happens first, made obvious by a brief, visible change in the screen,
and then moving the color picker over the area outside the What Colour client
area shows active changes in the color selection, which is only halted when the
mouse is pressed.

World in Conflict startup log (+relay,+snoop)
When starting World in Conflict, the game complains about insufficient system
capabilities (Windows Version (no matter what is set in winecfg), available RAM
and "appropriate" 3D card).
Fortunately the game can be told to start anyway but the graphics options are
then severely restricted. This can be mitigated somewhat by using a native
dxdiagn.dll but SM3.0 water shaders are still not available then. See the
riviera screenshot in the game's AppDb entry and compare it e.g. to
http://uk.media.pc.ign.com/media/821/821566/img_4763025.html on Windows.
Attached is a +relay,+snoop log of the game up to the point when it complains.

The issue I experienced when attempting to load the game is described here :
http://www.whatwasithinking.co.uk/2008/10/08/brothers-in-arms-hells-highway…
.
In this how-to, they suggest to update/reinstall the graphics drivers and the
PhysX module. My graphics driver is already updated to the latest (nvidia
190.42), and I fetched the latest bundle for the PhysX software. DirectX is
automatically installed by the game, I therefore used winetricks to make sure I
had the latest DX9 bundle. Despite that, I still get the same error message.
I browsed furthermore and have been refered to this :
http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?p=1379618#post1379618 .
This seems quite unusual to me, therefore before I test this, I would like to
have some feedback on the solution proposed.
I have uploaded my console output, if it can help.

is a medium fog and if you go inside somewhere it is a nearly total fog. If you
go into the in-game settings menu and adjust the fog slider you will see it
affected but it is still unplayable indoors in this condition.
Going back to the previous wine version works. I also today installed wine
1.11.15 and the same bug is present still.

Summary: Touch screen loses calibration when in full screen

When running AtomixMP3, and other WINE apps, in full screen mode the
touchscreen goes way out of calibration, which is important for this program
specifically and how i use it. In un-maximised mode it works fine.
If it helps this program will not operate at all (display to be used anyway) in
full screen mode in VirtualBox, but again fine when in un-maximised mode.
A demo version is available here fore testing:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1640537/Link%20to%20Atomixmp3.exe
I have searched various forums and have fond no clue towards a solution. ie, I
have no idea if it's a bug or something that is easily configurable. I have
played with WINE config settings and screen resolutions with no success.
I tried changing my x screen resolution to 800 x 600 (normally 1680 x 1050) and
noted that the calibration is the SAME as the WINE app in full screen mode,
with the pointer very biased towards the left side of the screen.
Please advise, would love touch screen to work properly in full screen mode.
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Guy Newman

The "distant impostors" setting has no effect. The way it implements distant
impostors, I believe, is substituting a flat 2d texture for 3d objects that are
very far from the camera, giving more detail to the landscape without having to
render 20 million polys for the trees.
See
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/group/?app_parent=4029;foru…
(second post from the top) for screen shots comparing LotRO running on Wine and
Windows and the difference "distant impostors" makes.
I've verified that it doesn't work on 1.1.24 and 1.1.25 (although 1.1.25
crashed a lot for me on LotRO for some reason and I had to revert back to
1.1.24).
I'd be happy to provide any extra debugging info if any would be helpful.

In order to have the WIC installer successfully start, the windowscodecs.dll
fake DLL must be removed, and an override should probably be set. With
wine-1.2-rc3-106-gae942d6, when running the installer with the quiet flag:

sometimes the installer will crash in setupapi during the installation. Turning
on debug flags sometimes masks the problem, and sometimes moves the problem
elsewhere, so I suspect heap corruption.

All mambojambo that got printed to console..
Arcanum's installer never asks for CD2. It apparently only installs what it
finds from CD1, says it's done, some backtrace gets printed to console and the
game wont launch.
Workarounds include using Windows installation, manually extracting required
files from CD2 or installing with Cedega.
Similar installation issues pointed out in appdb as well.
Not exactly sure what all the backtrace is even about - might not point out to
actual issue, even..

I have attached a log of my output while running this part of ETax 2008.
The first four lines of the log are known configuration issues on my end and
can be ignored.
The 88d969c0-f192-11d4-a65f-0040963251e5 errors appear when 'Yes' is chosen in

breaks. This is the subject of this bug report.
This issue has been confirmed in a couple of posts on AppDB and elsewhere. To

I'm trying to run Digitech's "JUpdater GSP1101vC48.exe" on MacOS 10.5.8 and
getting the following set of verbiage:

The "font" ones seem benign but the last one seems to keep the updater from
running to completion. I get an X-window that looks OK, but when I try to
update the device the software says no device was found.
Let me know if there's additional info I can gather for you.
Thanks.

When printing PC board artwork or schematic diagrams from Altium DXP 2004, arcs
are not rendered properly. The start and end points of the arc are in the wrong
places. I think it is related to the bug in gdi32 that I fixed some time ago
(bug ID 7421) because it looks just like that problem, only except it effects
printing instead of the screen. I'm not sure where print rendering is handled
in the API, or I would go after the bug myself.

The valgrind logs at http://kegel.com/wine/valgrind/logs
are all well and good, and lots of interesting bugs are
being fixed because of them, but they're kind of hard to find
if you don't know about them.
If the results were part of our existing test dashboard, they'd
be much easier to find. Maybe I'll try running winetest under
valgrind with a -valgrind suffix on the machine name, and see who
yells :-)
The downside to having them more obvious may be that
inexperienced programmers propose fixes without really
understanding the cause of the warning. An FAQ entry
might help there.

F1 2000 is a car racing game by Electronic Arts.
Game installation works fine, but running the game results in a crash, showing
a Program Error dialog box.
With Wine set to Windows 98 mode, the Program Error dialog box is all that
appears. Set to XP mode, the game loading screen appears and there is some CD
activity (copy protection I guess). After a short time a Program Error dialog
box appears saying "The program F1_2000.ICD has encountered a serious..."
A possibly-interesting line from the console output in XP mode:
m Files\EA SPORTS\F1 2000\F1_2000.exe: pthread_mutex_lock.c:321:
__pthread_mutex_lock_full: Assertion `robust || (oldval & 0x40000000) == 0'
failed.
As far as I know, there isn't a downloadable demo for F1 2000. However, there
is a demo for the very similar F1 Championship Season 2000, which also crashes
on startup.
http://www.fileplanet.com/53038/download/F1-Championship-Season-2000-Demo
I will attach the console output for both F1 2000 and the F1 CS 2000 demo, with
Wine in Windows 98 and XP modes.

If I double click on the filename, Word 2007 opens but never opens the file.
I can open it from the program menu.
I presume it's something to do with the length of the file name. Can anyone
confirm?

Both the game and the demo needs the msvcp60.dll in the same directory as
the main .exe file and a copy of d3dx9_36.dll in the windows/system32
Probably they also require the videomemory registry variable to be set.

Solidworks crashes when opening a new file or trying to save a new file.
(I installed Solidworks from a local copy of my Solidworks DVD. The DVD isn't
centered, so I don't like using it more than I have to.)
Steps to reproduce:
Start Solidworks with "wine sldworks.exe"
Click the Open button on the toolbar or the save button.
A dialog box that says "An unsupported operation was attempted." pops up.
Hit OK or the X in the corner of the window.
Solidworks crashes.
I ran wine with
WINEDEBUG=fixme+all,warn+all,+relay,warn+all
and captured the output. The resulting file is 740M. What of this file should
I include to help solve the problem?
I tried to put debug markers in the file through the "Put 'Debug Mark' in Debug
Log" option in the wine menu right before opening a file, but the crash was 2
million lines below the debug mark, and didn't help me find the problem or any
good information.

In Quake 3 Arena Main Menu one mouse click is taken as two. For example, if
clicked "Fight" in "Single Player"-menu, it will skip "Difficulty
Level"-screen, because "Fight"-buttons are on exactly the same position and one
mouse click is taken as two. It will go straight to the battle.
Pressing "Enter" from keyboard is taken as only one press as it should be and
it's currently the only workaround.
Tested:
- Changing "mouse sensitivity"/"clicking sensitivity"-options in game or Gnome.
- Tried different mouse settings in Quake 3 Arena's config file.
This problem is also with Wine 1.0.1.

To replicate error: Start up VideoReDo Plus, Click on the 'Open Video' button
on the main page, select a MPEG2 video file (either double click on the
filename or select the file and click on the 'Open' button).
The 'Open Video' dialog box will disappear and the video viewport in the
application will turn green. The application will then stop responding and
WINE will generate an error dialog box indication that VideoReDo.exe has
encountered a serious problem and needs to be closed.
After regression testing I found that VideoReDo does work almost perfectly in
WINE Version 0.9.47. (The only problem is that the video has a a blueish tint
to it, most prominently with skin tones.)

Using Ubuntu 9.04, Wine 1.1.26, Nvidea card.
I don't have any global ubuntu shortcut on control-6 or control-8 in my
shortcut settings.
In warcraft 3, the control-number keys are used to assign groups, so you can
press the number to select the group of units. The control key combined with
1-5,7,9 and 0 work, but control-6 and control-8 do not.
I personally assign my buildings from control-0 down to control-5 and my units
from control-1 to control-4, so now I don't have enough keys in linux :)
Wine 1.0 on Ubuntu 8.04 with an Nvidea card didn't have this problem, so this
is a regression.
To be able to play in full screen mode properly, I had to disable "let window
manager decorate windows" and "let window manager manage windows".

not have this problem and it occurs quite randomly once in a while in games.

time (including Wine apps) still maintain a solid internet connection during
this time. I know this because I use ventrilo when playing warcraft 3 and I can
still hear, talk, and see my ping as quite low.)

app PDF995 don't work message
Good morning.
would like to report that the version 1.1.43 of Wine, used in my Linux Ubuntu
10:04 is not loading programs website http://www.pdf995.com
These programs are very useful for managing PDF files, much better than the
programs for Linux (the Linux apps to add, split, merge and extract text from
PDF files usually crash in the middle of operations, but the programs never
crash PDF995).
Even the version of Wine that came with Ubuntu 9.04 I never had this problem,
but to upgrade to ubuntu Wine 9:10 left running these apps. The solution I had
at the time was "lock version" of Wine and not let you upgrade and it worked,
but when I installed ubuntu 10:04 version of Wine that was already the
repositories was superior to that which I had caught and besides you can not
back to that version, I have no means of making apps PDF995 back into service.
PORTUGUESE:
Bom dia.
programas do pdf995 nunca travam).
Até a versão do Wine que vinha com o ubuntu 9.04 nunca tive este problema, mas
ao fazer a atualização para o ubuntu 9.10 o Wine deixou de rodar estes apps. A
voltarem a funcionar.

Summary: Morrowind Graphics Extender's d3d8.dll replacement
fails to load
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.33
Platform: PC
URL: http://morrgraphext.sourceforge.net/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kernel32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chris.kcat(a)gmail.com
Morrowind Graphics Extender enhances Morrowind's graphics by providing its own
d3d8.dll that calls to d3d9, and catches certain calls to provide enhanced
functionality. Under Wine, the provided d3d8.dll fails to load with exception
c0000005 (sigsegv).
Being open source, I was able to trace the crash to the handling of the
STARTUPINFO provided by GetStartupInfo. As you can see in DllMain here:
https://morrgraphext.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/morrgraphext/d3d8/main.cpp
it calls GetStartupInfo then goes right to parsing the lpTitle field to find
the executable name.
Under Wine, though, the returned STARTUPINFO.lpTitle field will either be an
empty string (for the unicode version) or NULL (the ansi version, and sometimes
the unicode version), as opposed to the full application path/exe. Being that
the code uses the ansi version, it gets a NULL lpTitle and segfaults when it
derefs it while looking for the directory separator.
To reproduce, you'll have to install MGE, then run Morrowind using
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b;dinput8=n,b"
(it has to be n,b since the dll will also try to load the system/built-in dll).
The crash is reproduceable with any d3d8 app, but will likely not work properly
when fixed if it's not Morrowind.

Moon Tycoon is a 3D simulation/strategy game set on the moon. Info at
http://www.anarchyent.com/moontycoon/index.asp
This bug is for the original CD-ROM full game and the demo. A demo can be
downloaded from http://www.anarchyent.com/moontycoon/demo.asp
You'll need to use winetricks to install IE 6 before running the demo. (That
doesn't apply to the full game.)
Now that bug 23263 has been fixed (thanks!), the game starts with Wine 1.2rc5.
However, there is an issue with text rendering. Text background is the same
colour as the foreground, making it invisible; each text string appears as a
light grey rectangle.
To reproduce, download and install the demo, then run MT.exe. At the title
screen click START NEW GAME, then any of the options (Tutorial, Standard,
Campaign 1, 2 or 3). The text below should be rendered as light grey on black
background, but is in fact light grey on light grey. If you select Tutorial and
start the game, the text at the top of the screen has the same problem.

Console shows
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateSwapChain The app requests more than one
back buffer, this can't be supported properly. Please configure the application
to use double buffering(=1 back buffer) if possible
and the app shows that it is requesting two buffers, and this can not be
changed.
I imagine this will affect other apps requesting more than one buffer but I
could not find a bug open to this specific problem.
Can this be fixed?

Basically there are two problems with this application (don't know if I should
split it into two bug reports):
1) The demo runs very slowly (you nead to hit a space bar and wait a little to
skip the intro).
2) Wine doesn't restore resolution after quiting the game.

S103 is an Open University application. S103 opens a main navigation window,
which opens other windows depending on the activity chosen. The window remains
in the background while the activities are taken place.
On exiting an activity, the main window should redraw its layout, but fails to
do so.
There is no console data to suggest why.
The application does not appear to have crashed, as it can be closed by
clicking on the X as normal, but it is not unusable and has to be loaded again
to continue.
I could upload a full +relay but it may miss the point (as an activity has to
be opened and closed to recreate the problem). Would any other logs be more
helpful?

As far as I know, no version of Wine has any method of increasing the size of
the mouse pointers.
If you've artificially increased the DPI (LogPixels registry key) to make the
print larger, and/or you are using a high-resolution screen (e.g. the OLPC's
200dpi screen), it can be difficult to see where the mouse is.
It would be nice if the mouse pointer increased size in proportion to
everything else. Failing that, it would be nice if at least there were some
other way of increasing the cursor size (even if it's limited to integer scale
factors).

fullscreen it. (This is related to the bug 10839.)
But :
- The virtual desktop always displays in the top left corner of the window
containing it, it would be better if it always displays in the center of the
window ;
- Wine should display a black background in the entire window to avoid a
disgraceful display bug when you fullscreen the window containing the virtual
desktop.

I've also talked in the ingame linux channel, and it seemed that someone else
is having the same problem (altough he has the same graphics card), reportedly
it started happening from the newest patch (I wouldn't know as I wasn't playing
the game).
I've tried nearly all sorts of eve options : shadows off/on, HDR off/on, Bloom
off/on, Dither off/on. The resulting images were taken with all of it off.

Summary: Wrongly escaped path in cmdline of desktop icon
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.1
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: giulioo(a)gmail.com
System: Ubuntu 10.04 / Wine 1.3.1 (binary from ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa)
There's an app (cannot post a link to it) which when installed on Windows will
create a Desktop icon/link with a command line like this
"C:\Program Files\App\app.exe" "C:\Program Files\App\config.file"
When installing this app on wine-1.1.x all is working properly, meaning a
desktop icon is created with the following command line (I'm omitting ENV...)
wine "C:\Program Files\App\app.exe" "C:\Program Files\App\config.file"
However, both with wine 1.2 and 1.3.1 there's a problem with the desktop
icon command line, which is now:
wine C:\\Program Files\\App\\app.exe \"C:\\Program Files\\App\\config.file\"
that is:
- no quotes around the program name
- double back-slashes everywhere
- back-slash before quotes around the config file
Unfortunately this will result in the app starting but not getting the config
file right, and so it will start in "default mode".
To make it work I need to edit the wine icon cmd line, ie changing \" into "
at the beginning and at the end of the config file path.
Note that the link in menu "Wine -> Program Files -> App -> linkname"
is ok, and if I right click on it and choose "add to desktop" the new desktop
icon is ok too because it uses a completely different approach in the cmdline
(uses a command pointing to the .lnk file).
Do you think this is a problem with the app or with the way Wine is now
escaping the paths?

We have (in include/wine/dcetypes.idl)
typedef [ptr] GUID *uuid_p_t;
and (in include/wine/epm.idl)
ept_map(..., uuid_p_t object, ...)
So 'object' should be a full ptr, which is what midl generates. On the other
hand widl generates a reference ptr.
It looks like this should be fixed up in parser.y:set_type() somewhere.

Expanding a drive letter, such as C:\, shows directory subitems, but an

Attempting to expand this item causes a dialog box to display complaining of an

the problem disappear, and a +treeview log is attached.

Summary: Tomb Raider III screen resolution problem when not
using virtual desktop mode
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc6
Platform: x86
URL: http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tr3/demo.html
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
This bug applies to the game Tomb Raider III, both the full game and
downloadable trial) and the demo. It also applies to Tomb Raider III: The Lost
Artifact.
A time-limited trial and demos can be downloaded from
http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/tr3/demo.html
The demo is about 13MB, the trial 202MB. I'd suggest testing with the "South
Pacific" demo.
There is a problem related to screen resolution when Wine is *not* in virtual
desktop mode.
The game sets the X desktop to the appropriate resolution (640x480, 1024x768 or
whatever else you chose). But the game display size (in pixels) appears to be
the full/highest X desktop resolution. So only the upper left part of the game
display is visible on-screen, and in the case of a widescreen monitor, it is
stretched horizontally. For example, my laptop screen is 1680x1050 pixels. The
game seems to be rendering a 1680x1050-pixel display, but only the upper left
640x480 pixels would be visible on-screen. If instead I tell the game to use
1400x1050 resolution, then (since the vertical height matches) the game display
is stretched so the rightmost part is off-screen.
If testing with the demo or original CD, use winecfg to set Windows version to
Windows 98, otherwise Wine reports:
wine: Unhandled privileged instruction at address 0x48e2e1 (thread 001b),
starting debugger...
In Windows 98 mode, Wine reports instead err:int:__wine_emulate_instruction mov
cr4,eax at 0x00496a41 which is non-fatal. The trial version does not have this
problem. Alternatively, if testing with the original CD game, after installing
it run the unofficial XP/Vista patch from
http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/cgi-bin/downloads2/dl.pl?fx_vista_trupd…
Start the demo by doing wine Tomb3.exe /setup. For me, that opens a full-screen
black window, and the Tomb Raider II Setup window appears behind it (so not
visible). Alt-Tab to switch to the game setup window and choose a resolution,
then click OK. Compare the in-game display with that when running with virtual
desktop mode enabled.
The only console output which might be (but probably isn't) relevant is:
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32f5d8,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:d3d:swapchain_init Add OpenGL context recreation support to
context_validate_onscreen_formats
err:d3d7:IDirect3DDeviceImpl_7_SetRenderState Unhandled texture mag 0 !
err:d3d7:IDirect3DDeviceImpl_7_SetRenderState Unhandled texture min 0 !
In virtual desktop mode, the game resolution/rendering seems to work okay
(including when the virtual desktop resolution is widescreen, e.g. 1440x900).

When using (or forcing) the nvts_fragment_pipeline implementation (directx.c),
ingame windows are rendered incorrectly. Going to attach screenshots later.
With the arbfp pipe rendering is correct, I didn't yet try with other pipes.
Effect can be reproduced with the demo version. Start game and let cutscenes
finish (wait until you gain control of the character), then take a look at the
windows in the hospital room.
With nvts they're completly transparent, nearly like they weren't even there.
Recheck with arbfp and see how they should look like (you should see a
"sprinkled-by-rain-from-outside" effect on them).
Exit first room and look left for another window. It has the same issues,
however I found out that it was possible to trigger correct rendering when the
scene is rendered from a certain position (again going to do screenshots).

Debugging Output - Backtrace
Hello,
On: Ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx
i tried to run an old Windows application from 1995. It's called REBA, but this
won't help much, because i suppose it is widely unknown.
After starting the a pop-up tells about a severe problem with the application
winevdm.exe
The software freezes.
I would be very grateful for any hint about this problem since I'm not a
programmer but using this software without having to install MSWin is essential
to me.
attached a copy of the debugging output.
regards
WK

Summary: Mapsource crashes unexpectedly
Product: WineHQ Apps Database
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: appdb-unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: arkaims(a)gmail.com
OS: Ubuntu 9.04
Wine: Updated from Wine 1.0.1 to Wine 1.1.25 (unfortunately it does not solve
the problem)
Mapsource: 6.15.6
I have installed the Mapsource and after I have installed a set of mapsource
maps I tried to execute the MapSource through Wine to see the maps. The program
crashes - in the attachment I put the debug information.
I really hope that somebody will solve the Mapsource issues - one for all,
because it is really disappointing to have a GPS device, Maps and to be forced
to buy a M$ OS, because the guys for Garmin do not fulfill the end-user
requirements.

When trying to run the Mapsource updater to upgrade the successfully installed
Mapsource from 6.12.x to 6.13.x or 6.15.x the installer extracts successfully
but cannot proceed as it is waiting for the user to click "Next". The Next

The same behavior is seen with the stable version of wine available in the

There is no error on the console from the app. A Control-C kills it in the

It seems the display engine blanks out a horizontal rectangular zone where text

Communicated with the author of the app, who tells me that under Windows there
is no blanking at all where text is displayed (which makes sense when
displaying a map, you dont want to hide the map wahrever there is a text).

PSPad doesn't update the connection icon when in FTP mode. This is absolutely
trivial, but it annoys me quite a bit. When you start a connection in PSPad, it
keeps it open, but after a while the connection is lost (normal behaviour).
Under Wine however, the connection icon doesn't represent the state of the
connection and is always set to "connected". I have included a screenshot of
the icon in question.
I'd be happy to fix it myself if someone could point me in the right direction.

Summary: The Bat! Voyager fails to accept the master password
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc2
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: borut.maricic(a)pobox.com
Introduction:
I am trying to use The Bat! Voyager mail client
(http://www.ritlabs.com/download/the_bat/voyager_install_4-0-18-4.exe) under
Ubuntu 8.04 desktop via Wine 1.0-rc2. (Although my systemm is an AMD Athlon 64,
my Linux is just plain Ubuntu 8.04 - not a 64bit version.) The problem I am
describing here is a show stopper for me.
Background:
The Bat! mail client will, due to being developed in Delphi RDS, never be
ported to Linux. For me it is, however, the only obstacle in a transition from
Windows to Linux, due to the fact that there is no comparably robust and
sophisticated e-mail client for Linux to be found (and my e-mail base is almost
1.5 GB in size).
Your testing problem:
One needs a valid user license for The Bat! Professional, in order to be able
to activate and use Voyager. There is a small number of activations allowed and
activations are bound to drive serial numbers.
Details:
Voyager does not use Registry - the idea is to have both the program,
configuration and e-mail database on the same drive (for instance an
USB-drive). I installed and activated Voyager under Windows XP Home SP2, on a
"virtual drive" powered by TrueCrypt (http://www.truecrypt.org/). There is a
Linux version of TrueCrypt and I can mount the same drive under Ubuntu.
The first thing Voyager asks for after being started is the mail database
encryption password (="the master password"). When being started under Ubuntu
via Wine, right before this dialog comes up, the following lines are being
logged in the console window (there are only a few, so I am not making a
separate attachment here)...
Console log:
fixme:reg:GetNativeSystemInfo (0x11579e1) using GetSystemInfo()
fixme:imagehlp:CheckSumMappedFile (0x1bc0000, 6544892, 0x11869fa, 0x11869fe):
stub
fixme:system:SystemParametersInfoW Unimplemented action: 95
(SPI_GETSNAPTODEFBUTTON)
Whatever I enter, Voyager does not accept my input, reporting an unacceptable
password being entered. The last logged line ("Unimplemented action: 95") is
being repeated for every repeated try of a password entry.
Although Voyager tests internaly also for the drive serial number, I do not
think this is the problem, since I defined an appropriate drive letter and
attached a serial number to it in a Wine configuration.
Am I doing something wrong? Could I do some more testing; try something in a
different way? Can you do anything? Thanks a lot!

max payne 2: mirror reflection bug (total black)
Hi there,
another Max Payne 2 problem, again also present in the demo (see URL).
When playing the first level of the demo (or the game) you have a lot of
mirrors. For me reflections on the mirrors don't work correctly.
It wouldn't say they don't work at all, because there is something displayed in
the mirror, but it's mostly black. My changing the viewing position and angle
you actually can get something non-black on the mirror. See the screenshots for
more details.
Also see this bug:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14031
I'm not sure how much these are connected, maybe they've no connection at all.
Hardware is nvidia Geforce FX 5900.
For a logfile you can see the linked bug from above. I can generate more
logging material if necessary :-)
Again adding Alexander ;-)

This is a strange bug. In NFS Shift Demo (and possibly the retail version),
in Wine, the 2nd intro movie, and the movie after you quit a race,
are shown multiple times, until you press Enter (and then it only stops
playing after the movie finishes, rather than stopping immediately).
In Windows, they are shown only once (or possibly not at all in the
case of after a race).
To see this, you really need to have two monitors side by side,
and play the demo on both Wine and Windows at the same time,
pressing Enter at the same time every step of the way.

Summary: Incorrect translation of D3D asm instruction "expp"
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.17
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: liquid.acid(a)gmx.net
CC: stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at
Hi there,
currently wined3d (I only tested this in ARB mode, but it might also affect
GLSL mode) the D3D assembler instruction "expp" is incorrectly translated to
ARBvp assembler language.
wined3d takes this D3D asm line "expp r3.y, r3" and translates it into "EXP
R3.y, R3;". Well, this isn't working.
EXP is of scalarop type, the first parameter being of "masked destination
register" type (masking is used in this case above) and the second parameter
(here lies the problem) is of type "scalar source register".
Sadly R3 is a vector :(
Well, let's add there full shader source for completeness:
--------------------------------------------
vs_1_0
//D3DX8 Shader Assembler Version 0.91
mov r0, v0
add r1, r0, -c85
dp3 r1, r1, r1
rsq r1.x, r1.y
mov r3, r0
dp3 r3.w, r3, r3

mul r7, r3, r3.w
mul r1.x, r1.x, r1.y
mad r2.x, r1.x, c86.x, c86.y
slt r4, r2.x, c0
mul r4, r4, -c83.w
max r2.x, r2.x, -r2.x
add r2.x, r4.z, r2.x
mul r3, r2.x, c83.y
expp r3.y, r3
mad r3, r3.y, c83.z, c83.w
mul r2, r3.x, r3.x
mul r3.y, r2.x, r3.x
mul r3.z, r2.x, r3.y

mov oT0, v3
mov oT1, v3
mov oT2, v3
mov oT3, v3
mov oD0, c1
mov oFog.x, c0
--------------------------------------------
First of all, according to the current MSDN the instruction used above in the
source is NOT valid.
See this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb173373(VS.85).aspx
They explicitly state "expp dst, src.{x|y|z|w}" as the syntax.
They furthermore mention:
------------QUOTE---------------------------
src is a source register. Source register requires explicit use of replicate
swizzle, that is, exactly one of the .x, .y, .z, .w swizzle components (or the
.r, .g, .b, .a equivalents) must be specified.
------------UNQUOTE--------------------------
Well, this comment about the src reg doesn't seem to be valid at all....
Let's just take a look at the original D3D8 documentation ("D3DX8 Shader
Assembler Version 0.91" <- !!!).
To fully quote this:
------------------------------------------------------
expp
Provides exponential 2x partial support.
Syntax:
expp vDest, vSrc0
Registers:
vDest: Destination register, holding the result of the operation.
vSrc0: Source register, specifying the input argument.
Operation:
The following code fragment shows the operations performed by the expp
instruction to write a result to the destination.
SetDestReg();
SetSrcReg(0);
float w = m_Source[0].w;
float v = (float)floor(m_Source[0].w);
m_TmpReg.x = (float)pow(2, v);
m_TmpReg.y = w - v;
// Reduced precision exponent
float tmp = (float)pow(2, w);
DWORD tmpd = *(DWORD*)&tmp & 0xffffff00;
m_TmpReg.z = *(float*)&tmpd;
m_TmpReg.w = 1;
WriteResult();
Remarks:
The expp instruction produces undefined results if fed a negative value for the
exponent.
This instruction provides exponential base 2 partial precision. It generates an
approximate answer in vDest.z and allows for a more accurate determination of
vDest.x*function(vDest.y), where function is a user approximation to 2*vDest.y
over the limited range (0.0 <= vDest.y < 1.0).
This instruction accepts a scalar source, and reduced precision arithmetic is
acceptable in evaluating vDest.z. However, the approximation error must be less
than 1/(211) the absolute error (10-bit precision) and over the range (0.0 <=
t.y < 1.0). Also, expp returns 1.0 in w.
The following example illustrates how the expp instruction might be used.
expp r5, r0
------------------------------------------------------
So, the correct translation should be "EXP R3.y, R3.w;"
CCing Stefan Dösinger and Henri Verbeet.
I tried to patch this myself, but it looks like that "expp" has to be moved out
of shader_hw_map2gl to be able to do such an adjustement (but maybe not?).

I am in communication with PS but I'm sure you would want to know about this

This is not a critical problem, just an observation.
'winetricks psdk2003' works today, but seems a little slow.
It spends about five minutes thinking, then about half an hour (?) copying.
oprofile shows that during the thinking phase,
cpu time is divided up almost evenly between msi.dll and libwine.dll:
213762 52.2918 msi.dll.so
173435 42.4267 libwine.so.1.0
16658 4.0750 kernel32.dll.so
During this time, cpu time inside msi is divided up like this
67832 31.7325 JOIN_fetch_int
33596 15.7165 WHERE_evaluate
28618 13.3878 read_table_int
22133 10.3540 TABLE_fetch_int
14115 6.6031 STRING_evaluate
13322 6.2322 bytes_per_column
and cpu time inside libwine is divided up like this:
152497 87.9275 strlenW
12290 7.0862 compare_unicode_weights
During the copying phase, cpu time is mostly in the kernel:
23340 37.7866 no-vmlinux
15967 25.8500 cabinet.dll.so
5469 8.8541 libwine.so.1.0
Of the 1/4 of the cpu time in cabinet.dll, nearly all of it was in one
function:
15299 95.8164 LZXfdi_decomp
These numbers are with -O0, so they're not especially useful
for predicting normal speeds. It'd be interesting to see where the
cpu time is at -O2.

Wine throws up a crash dialogue when starting the game: Armored Fist 3 (from
Novalogic). The problematic executable is binkplay.exe which is intended to
play the intro video. Interestingly, after pressing on <Close> in the crash
dialogue, the game continues to load and starts up correctly.
A +relay log reveals the game comes with a binkplay.exe which is compressed
with Shrinker v3.3.
There is an already fixed bugreport here on Bugzilla which dealt with a similar
issue: that's bug #2608.
In case it's a regression I tried the game in 1.1.7. The crash still occurs in
1.1.7 for me (it can be seen in the terminal) , but without a crash dialogue.
A possible workaround: replace the bundled binkplay.exe with an un-shrinked one
(e.g from RAD Game tools). Now Wine plays the intro video fine, without a
crash.
There are several more Novalogic games that come with the same shrinked
binkplay.exe, so this bug might affect more than one game (Delta Force 2,
Tachyon).
The Delta Force 2 demo uses the same shrinked binkplay.exe (md5 checksums are
the same), so you can check out the issue using this demo (link added to URL).
Note: 'winetricks ie6' is needed to start the demo correctly (because of its
launcher).

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 on a dual boot machine with 3GB memory which can
comfortably run Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred 7 under XP. I'm having
problems installing Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7 in Wine and believe there may be
a bug.
Regardless of whether I run "wine /media/cdrom1/autorun.exe" or wine
/media/cdrom1/setup.exe or if I copy the cd contents to the hd and run the
install from the hard disk, the install looks promising for only a few moments.
Then an error message which describes the minimum requirements for DNS 7,
finishing with: "Your computer does not meet the minimum specifications for
installation of Dragon NaturallySpeaking" and it reports -1052Mb memory -ie
***minus*** 1.052 GB memory. Then the install allows me to withdraw
gracefully, no crashes or other problems, which is a tribute to the stability
of Wine itself.
This behaviour happens under Wine 1.00 from the Ubuntu repository and also
under Wine 1.1.6.
My guess is that fault lies with the the Dragon installer, which is not able to
recognise 3GB and is therefore unable to install, having misreported the total
physical memory as a negative quantity as a result of a register overflow.
I remember causing similar odd results myself when programming in C in what now
feels like another lifetime! Usually the silly result would be the consequence
of a register overflow thanks to my very poor programming skills.
I'm not all that familiar with the intricacies of Wine: could it be that there
is a command line option available which limits the amount of physical memory a
program running under Wine can see? Or is this a bug?

It was not possible to open attachments to an email in Wine 0.9.x versions; in
the Wine 1.0 RC-versions 1 and 2 this remains impossible.
Printing resulted and still results in garbled printouts: approximately the
first half of the first page is like it should be, the rest (of the page, and
the whole of next pages) is garbled, words printedover eachother. I have to cut
and paste the contents into a word processor (like Open Office) to be able to
print an email.
It was and still is not possible to enter Eudora in paid mode. I have paid for
my Eudora Pro, but since I moved from Windows XP to Ubuntu, I'm working in
sponsor mode. Which has a pesky irritating window reminding me about working in
sponsor mode...
Since updated to Wine version 1.0 (both Release Candidates 1 and 2), some other
things stopped working in Eudora.
- Not able to click on a link to open a web page (this was still possible in
pre 1.0 versions of Wine!). My browser is not opened. A workaround is to to
open Link History, select the link I just clicked on, copy the link, switch to
the browser, and paste the address into the address bar. Since clicking on a
link worked in earlier versions of Wine, this problem should be relatively easy
to be fixed...
- Not able to see the source of an email (to check special characters, URLs
etc): selecting this option (right-click in an email message, select option
'check source') has no result; same with 'send to browser'. Since clicking a
link does not open a web browser, being able to copy and paste the URL is
important, but not everybody (especially mailing lists) show the URL behind the
link, often just a keyword is shown.

Ignition is an old game that by default runs at 320x200. At the game menu you
can change the in-game resolution up to 800x600, but the menu itself will
always remain at 320x200.
If you select either 640x480 or 800x600 as the in-game resolution and then
start the game, the resolution happens but the display is garbled and the game
seems to do nothing after this point. This problem does not occur when using
the "Emulate a virtual desktop" setting, only when using proper fullscreen.
Also, if you leave the in-game resolution at 320x200 the game runs perfectly,
it's something to do with the resolution change.
It's not a driver bug as I've seen the same issue on open source ATI drivers
and closed nvidia drivers.
I've attached a +d3d trace but I'm not sure how helpful it is.

ReportedBy: addiebk(a)hotmail.com
Several programs that I attempt to run with WINE will run in the background,
but not be visible in the system tray. ALT-TAB does not make them appear.
They appear in the system monitor as processes (and indeed run normally-- zMUD
is connected to the server, and Steam can still download files), and Steam,
which has a tray icon, appears in the tray, though I cannot open 'library',
'store' or any other options which use the main window. ('Settings' can still
be opened.)
With zMUD: The program loads normally until I attempt to connect to a specific
server. The window then opens as it should for a split second, and then
disappears. The process still runs in the background as it should (the server
disconnects after a period of time with inactivity-- zMUD asks if I should
reconnect when this occurs.), though I cannot interact with the program.
with Steam: Everything seemed to run normally, and I even started a download of
a game in my library. I changed desktop workspaces, and Steam suddenly became
invisible. It still has a tray icon, and it continued to download the file
(the only plausible use of my bandwidth in the system monitor), though I could
not interact with the main menu. As mentioned previously, if I attempted to
open 'settings' from the tray icon, I could access the Steam settings, but
nothing in the main window.
There is no crash output from these programs when run from the terminal, as
they do not crash, but are simply invisible.

This bug applies to Pinball Mania for Windows by 21st Century Entertainment. I
tested with the version on a Softkey compilation CD-ROM, "Entertainment Pack
Volume III".
In Wine, on running setup.exe a couple of dialog boxes appear, one to confirm
the destination drive, the second to confirm the amount of free space. On
dismissing those, a third dialog box appears, saying "This is not a valid copy
of Pinball Mania!". After showing another dialog box the installer exits.
The CD-ROM is very unlikely to be copy-protected.
The only console output (which appears before the first dialog box, so is
probably not relevant) is:

and doesn't even try to do anything after looking up the registry key.

I do not see the string "176941F9-18E8-47D6-860D-006FF2655608" anywhere in the
trace logs, except as the return value to RegQueryValueW. (But I don't know a
whole lot about Windows, perhaps that's to be expected.)
I'm happy to do more debugging here, so any ideas appreciated. I don't appear
to have any DLL overrides.

Age of Wonders shadow magic says something like "could not open AVI", but what
that has to do with an uninstall? Both the WINE uninstall window and AoW SM
window freezes then.

Summary: Blood 2 (v. 2.1): mouse input not working

Mouse input with Blood 2 patched to latest version 2.1.233 does not work.
I tested it both with native dinput, dinput8 dlls and builtin variants.
Went back to wine-0.9.25 and still the same issue. So no regression I fear :(
This problem doesn't seem to be releated to the input issues with the B2 demo,
and therefore can't be reproduced there.
Adding Vitaliy Margolen to CC since it is very likely a dinput bug.
Greets,
Tobias

...encountered a serious problem and needs to close
With the latest release (1.1.22) I'm getting the attached message when running
DVD Profiler, yet it does not appear to affect the operation of the application
in any way.
The operation of the program under wine does not appear to have altered for the
last many wine releases, and has never got worse as far as I can recall (i.e.
any changes have improved functionality / performance).
One might speculate that this is enhanced error handling reporting an existing
error (of which there are several attached to the program), but I have no idea
which one.
The error appear immediately after running the exe, so is very early in the
somewhat long start up for the application.

Hi,
I tried to run the demo of Tomb Raider Underworld with Wine 1.1.5 :)
The game menu is fine, but when I try to launch the demo level, I have big
troubles (black screen, artefacts), seems to be related with d3d.
I must hit CTRL + C to abort, wine doesn't crash.
I attach the full log compressed with bzip2 (18 Mo unpacked).
The demo can be downloaded from URL.
Just an example :
fixme:d3d_draw:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502)
from glDrawElements @ drawprim.c / 261
Thanks ^^

Currently, the Wine system tray polls every 2 seconds for icons whose owner
window has been destroyed. Wine should detect the missing windows without
polling or, if that's not possible, only poll when there are icons in the
systray.
