Hasbro Interactive's Monopoly fails when trying to uninstall, with message
"Unable to locate the installation log file 'C:\Program'. Uninstallation will

The shortcut created during install executes the following command:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/test/.wine" wine "C:\WINDOWS\ISUNINST.EXE" -f"C:\Program

I'm not sure how to workaround this, but it is a minor bug nonetheless.
Monopoly uses Installshield and I am using GDM/Gnome/Ubuntu 8.10.

Command in the shortcut is:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/test/.wine" wine "C:\windows\unvise32qt.exe"

Whereas this works:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/test/.wine" wine "C:\windows\unvise32qt.exe"

So maybe if everything after wine <app.exe> was passed to <app.exe> "as-is",
this would work?

With this commit, Slingplayer 1.5's installer exits with "1628: Failed to

To get this far, native qcap is required to work around Bug 18536.
This is currently blocked by Bug 18990 (reverting
8fb7fdd0295df22b19bc9ee55431ff54521a6ee8 in the latest git brings us back to
this bug).
Reverting d9568722aa1c60ae402f18f7a079cb0988dd8c58 (this bug) and
8fb7fdd0295df22b19bc9ee55431ff54521a6ee8 (Bug 18990) in the latest git takes us
back to Bug 18536, the last bug for which there is a simple workaround.
I am not aware of a workaround for this bug (except reverting this commit
also).
Attached are +msi traces with this commit, and from the commit just before it.
In both cases native qcap is used to workaround Bug 18536.
Screenshot of error also attached.
Note: When testing, you may also come up against Bug 18540.

The shortcut to launch the uninstaller for Sage Line 50 v10 fails, and this is
why:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/test/.wine" wine "C:\windows\command\start.exe"
"C:\Program" Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\7\Intel 32\IDriver.exe
/M{CD442089-F88D-4F46-8E3C-E4B2964B2415}
See the fun mistake? (... "C:\Program" Files\ ...)
Two ways to get around this, run the command correctly
wine "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\7\Intel
32\IDriver.exe" /M{CD442089-F88D-4F46-8E3C-E4B2964B2415}
Or remove it using "uninstall" - both work.
So I guess there's something going a bit wrong when the shortcuts/launchers are
made (winemenubuilder?)
Apologies if this is a duplicate, I could not find the specific problem when
searching.

If the volume is too high, you come back on your desktop with a dialog box
which say :

I don't know if the game really crash, but if the volume is really too high,
maybe the error should be handled differently ? Thanks.

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: p.drezet(a)inx-systems.com
When using Jack as the audio back end for wine low level but significant
distortion is heard and measurable on the output.
The level of distortion is sufficient to make wine jack unuseable for medium
quality audio applications (i.e. quality is rediced to equivelant of 32kbs -
mp3). This occurs on all signal levels and does not appear to be clipping.
This can be reproduced and identified most easily by recording the Jack output
with Audacity (also tested with other jack recording applications) and
comparing the spectrum of the original and recorded signals.
The spectrum indicates that the full bandwidth is present, but additional
frequency content has appeared. This also occurs when dithering is enabled in
jack.
Sounds like re-sampling aliasing issue - or perhaps an internal filter variable
scaling problem.

this worked in 1.1.14 so I'm assuming its a regression can you edit the

that allows that? if so I'll put a comment in the app. tried all wineconfig
options for O/S including NT 4.0 nothing worked.

Wine Console output.
While playing SWAT 4, in various sections the game will temporarily freeze with
a Critical Section wait timeout. After several seconds the game will unfreeze
but loses all mouse input (and sometimes loses keyboard input). The mouse will
be able to leave the screen, even if it's warped.
Attached is the wine terminal output.
Reproducing this problem:
In the first level - "Food Wall Restaurant" - you can walk into the front door
of the restaurant. After you and your men are inside the dining area, the game
should freeze. Sometimes nobody is in the dining area. Simply restarting the
level should fix this, as the game randomizes the positions of enemies and
civilians.
Note 1:
The game is unplayable due to the well known mouse capture problem that
requires an xorg API fix. To get around this problem, a simple mouse hack was
written using the middle click to switch between warped and non-warped mouse
modes. Without this, menu navigation is impossible, or looking around in the
game is impossible.
I can confirm that this minor hack does not affect this bug - a version of wine
without the hack was used to confirm the loss of mouse input.
Note 2:
dlls/ntdll/critsection.c, line 436, wait_semaphore - changing the 5 second
delay to 300 seconds temporarily alleviates the problem, allowing the player to
usually get through several levels; however, other problems occur that may or
may not be related to this bug (freezes at random intervals, textures load as
garbage in random levels, the error message is slightly different, etc...)

garbled Quicken Registration dialog
I installed Wine 1.01 on Kubuntu 9.04 amd-64 and installed Quicken 2008 from
CD-ROM. The installation failed in the online update.
I then installed wine-1.1.26 from the PPA http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt
I did not install any of the WineTricks mentioned on the AppDB
When I ran Quicken 2008, I got a prompt about going online to register. When I
followed that, the Quicken Registration dialog appeared, but apart from a
banner
"Welcome to Quicken registration..."
it was full of gibberish characters as if the encoding is wrong. I will attach
a screenshot.
As you can see, the status line of the dialog window contains
file://C:\windows\profiles\All Users\Applicataion
Data\Intuit\Quicken\INET\COMMON\PNF\REG\4A5E9E00.H
This file exists on my drive C: with slightly different capitalization at the
end -- Inet\Common\Pnf\Reg\4A5E9E00.HTM
I can open this file and it appears fine in my Linux Firefox browser and text
editor; not garbled at all, no UTF characters. It seems to hold the HTML for
all the stages of the registration process; in working Quicken you don't see
all of this HTML at once.
This bug sounds like what SpinDr describes in comment 9 of bug 14672. I am
reporting a separate bug because that bug is "I am not presented with the box".
I get the box, but it's garbled.
I'm happy to attempt to debug this further; alas my log with WINEDEBUG=+relay
filled my disk and I had to remove it, and now I don't know how to get back to
the registration dialog because I used the trick of Shift+Ctrl "One Step
Update" to turn off registration!

ION TTUSB05 USB Turntable
VirtualBox-3.0.6_52128_fedora11-1.i586
Acoustica SpinitAgain (LP to CD or mp3)
I purchased the SpinItAgain software to accelerate the process of converting my
+1,000 album collection to mp3. I'd started with Audacity and the USB
turntable, but it is a laborious process. SpinItAgain looked promising since it
could look up album info on the web.My concern was, would wine be able to
access the USB turntable. I installed SpinItAgain and everything worked right
out of the box.
It would crash every few days, but it would restart and I would carry on.
Two days ago the program crashed and could no longer see the USB turntable.
I tried rebooting the Fedora 11 host, re-plugging the USB cable, nothing made
the USB turntable visible in wine. I was invoking winecfg, selecting the audio
tab and checking wave input under ALSA to see if the turntable was visible.
In frustration I started a VirtualBox Windows XP guest with the intention of
moving the SpinItAgain to VB. XP under Virtual Box is horribly slow so while
waiting for XP to boot, I ran winecfg again and to my amazement the USB
turntable was again visible in wave in AlSA. I had been running a Fedora 10
guest in VirtualBox and only shut it down about the time wine lost access to
the USB turntable.
To confirm that VirtualBox is the magic trigger. I shut down the VirtualBox XP
session and checked winecfg - the USB Audio disappears. I then started a Fedora
10 guest under VirtualBox, re-checked winecfg and USB Audio was again under
wave in ALSA. With this setup SpinItAgain is working once more.
If I hadn't already had VirtualBox running when I originally installed
SpinItAgain the USB turntable would not have been visible in wine and I would
have assume the program was unusable through wine with the USB turntable.
It's worrisome that an apparently unrelated application running has such a
major impact wine's ability to access a piece of hardware. As this is audio,
and the weirdness of pulseaudio coming in to replace ALSA is causing a plethora
of problems, I don't feel confident that this workaround will continue to work.
Hopefully this information will be useful to the wine developers.

When playing a game made by RPG MAKER XP, sometimes it looks like some

For example you don't press any key, and the hero goes left. If the hero goes

When you have a choice to do, sometimes the cursor will travel into the
different choices even if you don't press any key.
If you run the game with the console (wine Game.exe), the bug is weaker.

When I copy and paste from an MS Word 2000 document or Open Office document

using Open Office 3.1, MS Word 2000, and Ubuntu 9.10 with Wine 1.1.33. The
Asian fonts were first entered in SCIM in Ubuntu (9.04), and on Windows XP. The
font originally used was MS Mincho, which is the commonly used font in Japanese
documents.

Readable client is created in jack.

within this there re two ports: out_l and out_r - which woujld presumable be
the stereo channels.
when running an audio source programme in wine audio is outputted from both
these ports however both have the same signal and the audio is not the original
stereo audio. I think it is just one channel split onto both out_l and out_r
rather than a summed mix.
>From audio.c this appears to be the behaviour if the audio source is considered
mono - the data is copied to both channels.
The win32 audio source application has been verified to operate with wine in
stereo using the alsa output.
Is there anyway of making wine output the missing stereo data? Should
wine_jack_out_1 carry the lost second channel? If so how do you get wine to
create output on wine_jack_out_1 too?

Runes of Magic still installs using the method described on the winehq page,

I have it working on my laptop which runs WINE 1.1.33, but it fails on my
desktop with same distro and version except WINE 1.1.34. This has also been
confirmed by a number of comments from users.
The game window opens and remains black for a long time (like usual, even on
Windows), then you hear the music and then in WINE 1.1.33 you see the main
screen. As of WINE 1.1.34 this does not seem to happen after several minutes.
Let me know if there is anything else I can provide, possibly install devel
libs and dumb some debug?

When you're playing you usually press "T" or "H" to get a one-line chat prompt.
Problem is that you can't see what you're typing. Neither what others say.
I'll play with a friend to ask if he can see what I send (I'll just type
something and then press enter to send the message), as I think it's just a
problem with the text drawing.
This text is the only with a font one in pure white color, maybe it's related
to it or some missing font?.
What could I do to help debugging this?.

Description of problem
Spore shows black screen on start up. No Graphics, No Sound and No Cursor

Installation process worked OK with no errors.

Spore 1 - Installed from DVD. (I am currently using the Correct No-CD to get

Other Details
I have tried to fix this issue using information from other bug reports with no
luck, details are shown below:
1. Changed the following Registry entries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Wine, Direct 3D.
DirectDrawRederer = opengl.
OffscreenRenderingMode = backbuffer.
UseGLSL = disabled.
I have also tried using OffscreenRederingMode = fbo and had same error.

There is a section where you type in the appropriate word or phrase and hit
enter and you move to the next line if you are correct.
This worked alright in 1.1.28, but 1.1.29 opens an error dialog upon hiiting
the enter key that states "No MCI Device Open" and I am not able to move on.
I reverted back to 1.1.28 and it works again.
This is reproducable and happens on my girlfriends computer as well (fresh

I added an attachment of the basic wine output.
I can also try to attach a full WINEDEBUG=+relay or any other debug outputs as

The installer returns the pop-up window error when run "Severe: get prof
failed!" You can click "OK" and attempt to continue the installer, but soon
after during file copy another warning window pops up: "Severe: file set
execute failed". Clicking "OK" again will then give you a series of pop up's
with no text, just a red "X" and an OK button which constantly reappears after
clicking OK about 10 times, then the installer skips right to the end of the
process with "Install complete" but nothing was installed except a menu entry
in wine. This used to be a platinum rated wine app that installed normally in
prior versions of wine.

But after I upgraded to 1.1.35 the rockets where all invisible. Everything
else seems to work 100%, the rockets even do damage and all the animations
around the rocket is where. Just the rocket and smoke that is missing.
Makes it really difficult to play with the helicopters since you can't see
exactly where the rocket went

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Component: kernel32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: martinrs(a)softhome.net
After running winecfg Drives->Show Advanced to set drive Type, wine versions
from 1.1.7 no longer uses this information to find the drive type. This is
confirmed by tracing through wine debug.
For example, run winecfg, choose Drives tab, Add.., D: drive, Show Advanced,
Path:/some-normal-directory-path, Type: CD-ROM
The D: drive is not detected as CD-ROM but rather as a normal disk.
Also confirmed with Type: Local using a path that is a bind mount point (not
even a network mount), and it detects as remote drive rather than local drive.
This is confirmed from version 1.1.7 to 1.1.12 (not sure after that).

After re-opening the notepad frame, the "thumb" is tiny, after scrolling it

ReportedBy: rcxdude(a)gmail.com
after wine 1.1.41, planets in EVE online (and some other effects) do not render
correctly - instead of an atmospheric glow a flat colour is shown. This is not
particularly important but in the latest test version of the client the icons
for the new planetary interaction feature do not appear at all, making this
part of the game unplayable.
I was able to bisect this to the commit:
[4cd69b8a097f16012f5c6ba3a6237df3495fba97] wined3d: Simplify the generated GLSL
for NRM.
and reversing the changes made there on the latest version of wine in git fixed
both the planet's atmospheres and the icons.
However, this appears to be graphics card dependent. I am using an NVIDIA
7950GT, while this bug was reported not to appear to occur on an NVIDIA GTX 275
(at least the planetary interaction icons appeared)
I have no idea what the above change does, but it appears to be incorrect in
some cases.

when running wine version(1.1.32) on osx(winebottler), it has been discovered
that drop down boxes do not expand to the width of the longest data row, when
the following code at
www.http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?p=593960
is run.
The problem also occurs when running wine(stable) on centos 5.3
I have just started using wine, but I am guessing that either:-
i) The set statement between vb6, or the corresponding win code, and the
linux(X) gui is missing, or
ii) The X drop down widget does not have a modify drop down width setting, or
iii) none of the above :)
Basically,
SendMessage(mCombo.hwnd, CB_SETDROPPEDWIDTH, PixelWidth, 0)
does not work.
The drop down width stays at the initial combo box width, as set when the
control was initially layed out.
Or, the drop down combo width cannot be changed.
thanks

I supposed, Wine tells each program that it is running in administrator role.

testcase for problem
Attached testcase illustrates the problem. The problem was originally found in
a fan-developed Forsaken mod. I couldn't get feedback on this on wine-devel, so
I'm opening a bug for this. Close if it's not a bug or is non-fixable.
How to reproduce: hold a key and move mouse over the window, preferably also
clicking mouse buttons, main loop latency steadily increases from 10 to 50 (and
even 100) in a short time. In a game this means going from 100 fps to 20 or 10
just because of input messages. Has to be noted that in the actual game the
rate of slowdown seemed at least 2-3 times faster when just holding one key and
moving mouse, for reasons I don't know, but the testcase still should enough to
show the problem.
What the testcase is doing is bad practice, it's basically refusing to process
certain types of messages, and PeekMessage just once during a loop is probably
bad as well, but that's what the game was originally doing in its main game
loop. There are several concerns about it:
1) No slowdown happens on Windows, either in game or in this testcase. No
matter how much I move the mouse holding key and clicking madly, it shows same
stable 15-16 ticks latency in the testcase. I don't know what it does, but
somehow it handles this situation better than Wine.
2) Can this (broken) way of doing things be exposing some inefficiency in
message handling, maybe something that could use optimization? I tried to put
debug hacks into queue_hardware_message(), it seems that when slowdown is
already VERY bad in Forsaken (10fps), message queue in wine server has about
400 or maybe 600 messages. Is that kind of processing overhead per message
inevitable? (This is happening on AMD Athlon(tm) 3200+). Perhaps somebody who
knows that part of code well may be interested in looking into performance
issues in this case. Because, if 400-600 messages in the queue slow down the
application to a crawl, then who knows, perhaps it decreases performance of
more well-behaved but input-intensive apps as well, just less drastically
(holding one or several keys to move, all the while aiming with mouse and
abusing mouse buttons is a common thing in games, so there can be quite a few
input messages flooding the server).

err:seh:setup_exception_record nested exception on

Product: Wine

Severity: normal
Priority: P2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mc2374(a)mclink.it
Starting from wine 1.1.31, the game always hangs quickly after starting a
campaign scenario or a previously saved game.
Sometimes the sound starts stuttering and sometimes it does not; in any case
the game crashes and the console shows the following message:
err:seh:setup_exception_record nested exception on signal stack in thread 0009
eip 7efb2d50 esp 7ffdbc7c stack 0x242000-0x340000
Segmentation fault.
This seems a sound related thing and a regression for wine 1.1.31, because:
* disabling entirely the sound in wine (i.e. unchecking all the drivers in the
audio tab of wineconfig) fixes the problem: homm3 works fine, without any
sound;
* reverting to wine 1.1.30 also makes the problem disappear: homm3 works fine
with sound (as it did for me until wine 1.1.31).
The hang and the error message are very similar to those described in bug
#15195, but for homm3 they were absent before wine 1.1.31.

alsa driver patch
While figurinig out the kinks to get Love working, I had to patch the Alsa
driver to make it behave like the esound one.
The thread about that process is available here:
http://www.gaminglove.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1057
AppDB entry for the game:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=11327
To summarize, my understanding is that love.exe tries to open the sound device
twice. It works if you use the esound backend, and after a bit of investigation
we found that applying the attached patch would make things work with the Alsa
backend as well (e.g. change the return code from MMSYSERR_ALLOCATED to
MMSYSERR_NOERROR).
(thanks to Kevlarman for initially coming up with this fix)

With wine-1.1.35, when starting a new game in Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, an
intro cinematic is supposed to be rendered, but instead, the cinematic is drawn
as black for the entire duration, although in-game rendering seems fine. A
related problem occurs with the Eidos logo animation shown when starting the
game, where it is drawn extremely slow. Testing showed that rendering worked in
wine-1.0, and regression testing revealed:

This is the MacOS variant of bug #13335: mmap failures on 32bit Mac OS X 10.5.8
+ NVidia
After upgrading my Mac from 1GB RAM to 4GB, Lego Star Wars 2 started crashing
in Wine-1.1.24 after a variable amount of play time. The error always starts
with:
wine(6017,0xa022e720) malloc: *** mmap(size=16777216) failed (error code=12)
*** error: can't allocate region
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
This is repeated 6/8/10 times, size always 16MB, followed by a crash like:
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x0000003c at address 0x7305cadb
(thread 0018), starting debugger...
The backtrace shows nothing particular.
The machine is an "early 2009" Mac mini 2GHz core duo with Nvidia 9400 graphics
processor. Using Mac OS X 10.5.8 and XQuartz 2.3.3.2. So this is a strict 32bit
system.
The crashes occur sometimes after half an hour, sometime after an hour of game
play. I'm pretty confident that the RAM upgrade is the cause because
- no SW upgrade of any kind was done around that time
(let's hope I got no trojan),
- I'm using LSW2 in wine-1.1.24 with a prefix distinct from
my git snapshot work,
- the app has been very stable in the past (the children played for hours),
- another app started failing as well (see next comment),
- syslogs prove the mmap failures began following the RAM upgrade,
- the crashes appear in levels the children played in the past, not new ones,
- such a huge RAM upgrade affects the memory mapping. Among others, the Nvidia
chip is said to make use of more main memory when the machine has more than 1GB
RAM (256MB? instead of 128MB).
Obviously the machine is not running out of memory. It now has more than
before. Instead, I believe this confirms the hypothesis about running out of
address space, c.f. R. Colenbrander in bug #13335, comment #96.
I have no reasons to believe that the new RAM is faulty. The machine is very
stable and only 2 apps in Wine are affected. I'm not going to remove the RAM
because of the effort it was to open the Mac mini box (the back sat so tight
that you couldn't slide in a putty knife, not even a sheet of paper).
Perhaps somebody knows a SW tool that can simulate a Mac equipped with 1GB RAM
only?
Few people ever reported the dependency of the mmap failure on the amount of
RAM. http://forums.adobe.com/message/1875853 mentions a perhaps similar failure
with native Photoshop.
Because of bug #22029 I cannot test the app in current Wine. It's unfortunate
that this mmap issue affects wine-1.1.24 because this release was excellent at
3D games with the 1GB Mac Mini.

It looks like an argument between len and null-terminated strings.
RtlQueryRegistryValues calls a user-supplied callback whose first
parameter is to a nul-terminated string... but it passes pInfo->Name,
which is not nul-terminated. (It comes from NtEnumerateValueKey,
and has a corresponding NameLength member.)
So... either we need to copy Name to a new buffer and terminate
it before calling the callback, or NtEnumerateValueKey needs
to silently nul-terminate Name. I guess it's time for another
conformance test.
(This error was seen before by Valgrind, but with a slightly
less informative description.)

CC: onety-three(a)gmx.net
Hi,
this is a cleaned up version of the issues first described in
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14038.
Game affected: Max Payne 2 (demo version tested)
Issue: MP2 uses some fullscreen post-processing effects to enhance gaming
experience. The famous bullet time effect is using a sepia tone filter, which
breaks on wine when certain ingame options are set.
MP2 offers two modes of post-processing effect quality (switching them
completly off is also possible):
(i) medium -> the sepia filter works
(ii) high -> sepia filter breaks
Notice that MP2 also uses some other PP (post-processing) effects, like a
motion blur filter in cutscenes. The filter from the cutscenes is NOT affected
by this issue described here, although it also affects the entire screen.
The issue also appears with wine-0.9.56.
Issue is gone when going back to wine-0.9.45, but the rendered area is now
confined in a rectangular portion of the visible screen. (read more about this
at the end (*))
Regression testing turned up this commit:
[d09cbcec91561186bee77aaba55b29cbf2d7e7ef] wined3d: Activate
GL_ARB_texture_rectangle.
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/?a=shortlog;h=d09cbcec91561186bee77aa…
Notice the other five wined3d commits by Stefan Dösinger.
Somehow using ARB_tex_rect instead of using NP2 emulation breaks the sepia
filter, but leaves the motion blur intact.
In fact this commit does also correct "scaling" issues with the other PP
effect, motion blur (again see below (*)).
My wine settings for MP2:
UseGLSL=disabled
OffscreenRenderingMode=backbuffer
RenderTargetLockMode=auto
It doesn't matter though is ORM is set to backbuffer or fbo, the issue also is
reproducible with ORM=fbo. However testing this with ORM=backbuffer makes it
easier for me because of other issues with FBO (plus FBO generates a lot of
FIXME noise on the console).
Graphics hardware used to confirm:
(i) Me, using a Geforce FX 5900
(ii) Frank Roscher, using a Geforce FX 5700
Drivers versions:
(i) FX 5900 driven with 100.14.19 and 173.14.09 (makes no difference)
(ii) FX 5700 driven by driver version 169.12
(*) Interesting facts with wine-0.9.45:
Like I said above PPE set to high work with this version, but the rendered area
is suffering from "scaling issues". This can be reproduced all the time with
the bullettime filter.
However there are also the cutscenes, using the motion blur filter. The funny
thing there is that they are also affected by the scaling issue, BUT not
always.
Watch the first cutscene sequence after you gain control over Max in the
hospital room (the cutscene begins when you are right in front of the double
door). The scaling issue changes during the cutscene to correct rendering, and
back after some moments.
I don't know if the changes from "wrong scaling" to "correct scaling" and
vice-versa are always the same but I'm going to check that again.
Greets,
Tobias

The wine version for this bug is actually 0.9.59, but as of the time of
writing, this version is not available from the select box.
This bug is about the overall slow game performance of Call of Cthulhu (
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=3981
), compared to the same game with the same settings under Windows Vista.
Overall, the game is at least twice as slow, as compared to Vista, maybe more.
The test machine is a core 2 duo @ 2.20 GHz, with an 8400M GS video card, with
an nvidia driver version of 100.14.19. The same settings are used on both wine
and vista. The the resolution is set to 1600x1200, and the other graphics
related setting, the AA, is set to None.

When you run The Bat! version 4.2.6 it won't start because of a security lib
Ritlabs uses for The Bat! 4.1x upwards from Themida. The error message is
Themida - "Cannot open oreans.vxd driver. Make sure that oreans.vxd is not open
by another program"
This happens with my self compiled Wine 1.1.24 and prebuilt versions of
(Dar)Wine 1.1.21 and 1.1.23. Googling seems to show that this is only an issue
for Wine on OS X and the Themida/Oreans stuff.

This is my first time using Wine, and it works great for just about everything.
But the original reason I downloaded it was to play one of my favorite MMOs,
Rumble Fighter, which I got from here:
http://rf.ogplanet.com/downloads/game.asp
It downloaded, installed, updated, and ran perfectly right up to the login
screen. The login button doesn't work. I noticed that it says "This service
is for North America users only. Thanks for your interest." at the top of the
window. I don't know why, as I live in Shoreline Washington, and my computer
is set to US time. I have the most recent version of Wine.

Summary: UseGLSL=disabled stops FIFA WM 2006 with vertex shader
error
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.24
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.5
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
CC: stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at
With UseGLSL="disabled", FIFA WorldCup 2006 freezes with a black screen as a
zillion GL_INVALID_OPERATION scroll by.
Noteworthy log messages at the beginning are:
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_arb_generate_vshader HW VertexShader Error at position
0: "Error on line 28: missing comma (hint: '[')"
fixme:d3d_draw:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502)
from glDrawElements @ drawprim.c / 50
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_arb_generate_vshader HW VertexShader Error at position
0: "Error on line 33: missing comma (hint: '[')"
Later, it is this exactly this fixme:drawStridedFast >>>>>>>>>>> which scrolls
by continuously. I've used wine-1.1.24, although Stefan added a few patches
since. I prefer to stick to releases for tests.
Hmm, I already encountered that drawStridedFast message (with GLSL) in
2weistein Demo in wine-1.1.21 (there it was "only" reported ~ thousand times).
BTW, 2weistein Demo works great with or without UseGLSL -- even better without
it in the main menu, but that's another issue.
With (default) GLSL, FIFA WC 2006 works flawlessly on the MacOS -- the children
have totaled hours of game play. (Alas, I'd need to perform a full install
prior to submitting AppDB results about the Mac).

The game i'm trying to run is Anno 1404 (a.k.a. Dawn of Discovery)
I'm running the game with the following command from the game's install
location (in order to find correct libraries) :
DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH="/opt/local/lib:/usr/X11/lib" ~/wine-git/wine
Anno4.exe
I've copied the usersettings from a copy on windows to get engine.ini and
account data in place. Performed D3D9 fix in engine.ini and set dbghelp.dll to
native with winecfg
D3D9 is installed with winetricks version 20100811.
When the game starts, it tries to authenticate the existing online profile,
showing a dialogue with 'Waiting for other online transactions', after a time
out, the dialogue shows 'logging in...', again after a certain amount of time,
the dialogue asks to enter password again. Clearly it didn't authenticate. I am
sure the credentials are correct. When trying to create an online profile, a
dialogue ask to enter username and password of your ubi-account. After doing
so, the dialogue 'Logging in...' appears and again after a certain amount of
time ask to enter your password again.
In the terminal output i found an error from winhttp that coincides connect
attempts:
err:winhttp:netconn_secure_connect couldn't verify server certificate (12157)
Attached you can find the terminal output from such a test flow described
above.
I've had this error also in the wine @1.2 and wine-devel @1.3.0 installed via
Macports.
Also the latest release of crossover games of Codeweavers has this problem to
authenticate an online profile for this game, although there was no error in
the terminal output but a warning stating RAS support is not implemented.

Suggest that winetricks ask this question:
Have you installed DCOM98? (y/N) ?
With an abort message or call to DCOM 98 installation for Jet 4.0.
If this is already documented, please add this to the Jet 4.0 install

I can't upload attachments from a Mac running Mac OS 10.5. It does not matter
which browser I use (tested with Firefox and Safari). When I click submit to
begin the upload, the browser tells me it's sending the request, and then it
just sits there and does nothing. If I click the browser's stop button, I find
that my attachment is not there at all, like I didn't even try to attach
anything in the first place. Same thing happens when I try to create a new bug
with an initial attachment (like I tried to do with bug 19412; I wanted to
attach a log, but couldn't).
Don't tell me this is a bug with Mac OS or whatever browser I'm using (at the
moment, Firefox). I tried the Landfill test installation on Bugzilla's website,
and uploading attachments worked just fine. I tried both the 3.0 and 3.2
branches. Maybe it's time to upgrade?

(When bug 20762 is fixed, please change the OS to Mac OS X 10.6. Thank you.)
Building tests for Windows with mingw fails on Mac OS X. And yes, I do have
mingw installed. Specifically, tests fail to link with this message:
../../../dlls/winecrt0/libwinecrt0.a: could not read symbols: Archive has no
index; run ranlib to add one
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
winegcc: i386-mingw32-gcc failed
Yes, I tried running the mingw ranlib on the library but it had no effect. I
also tried cleaning out dlls/winecrt0. That had this effect:
/usr/local/bin/../lib/gcc/i386-mingw32/3.4.5/../../../../i386-mingw32/bin/ld:
cannot find -lwinecrt0
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
winegcc: i386-mingw32-gcc failed
I suspect that's because none of the cross tests depend on winecrt0 in their
Makefiles.
Running the mingw nm on libwinecrt0.a produces this:
i386-mingw32-nm: __.SYMDEF SORTED: File format not recognized
i386-mingw32-nm: delay_load.o: File format not recognized
i386-mingw32-nm: dll_entry.o: File format not recognized

i386-mingw32-nm: init.o: File format not recognized
i386-mingw32-nm: stub.o: File format not recognized
because a) it doesn't support Mach-O and b) it doesn't support Apple ranlib
indexes at all, let alone sorted ones.
Are you sure winegcc should be pulling in winecrt0 for the i386-mingw32 target?
Are you sure we don't want to use mingw's CRT startup code? If we want to use
winecrt0, why don't the cross tests depend on it, and why isn't a version built
for mingw32?

Date: Tue May 18 14:11:51 2010 +0200
winex11: Force alpha channel to 0 when blitting to depth 32 from a lower
depth.
causes garbage to be displayed instead of the icons in
- winecfg's audio tab: the checkbox (the +/- signs are ok)
- "wine control": the software control panel icon.
I filed a new issue even though bug #22958 is about the same commit, because
this is Mac(/NVidia?)-specific, does not depend on other SW, nor gdiplus. Ouch,
another instance where fixing a bug #22457 causes a new one.
Using wine-1.1.rc3 on an "early 2009" Mac Mini with NVidia 9400GM on MacOS X
.5.8.
There's no such effect on Ubuntu Intrepid with Intel graphics HW.

As per a series of other (ignored!) bug reports, joystick support is very poor

under mac os. If I do winedebug with il2fb, no entry for the joystick appears,
suggesting that adding a registry entry would not help me at all.

There is a long list of technologies in Mac OS X that could be used to improve
Wine on OS X. One of them is ColorSync. ColorSync is a color management
software that is HEAVILY integrated into the Mac OS. For instance, you can
calibrate your monitor and when OS X starts up, it will read the color profile
file and adjust the graphics card output. It will also do color correction
automatically in, e.g. Preview to get the best out of an image.
However, I do not know the relation between X11 and ColorSync. It is possible
that in order to take full advantage of ColorSync, a Mac OS X native front-end
will need to be developed.

Severity: minor

Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hoehle(a)users.sourceforge.net
With default Wine settings, that is without UseGLSL="disabled", the app
exhibits several related defects:
- The characters (Assil etc.) are drawn completely black.
- The intro displays black blocks on (correct) dark blue blackground instead of
the Deck13 logo in white and yellow.
- The game's first scene (alley/Gasse) is completely black except for the
passage to the illuminated main street. With "disabled", it's merely very dark
and Assil is visible (dark), which seems normal for this scene.
OTOH, The app seems to merit gold rating with UseGLSL=disabled, but it's too
early to tell after mere 10 minutes testing.
Alas, in both cases, there's a white square as background to the mouse pointer,
but that's another issue.
The logs are similar in both cases (not attached) and don't show anything not
already known from other apps (>1 backbuffer etc.) that work well.
Observed on nVidia Mac OSX 10.5.7, XQuartz 2.3.3.2 and Wine compiled myself
with nothing but Xcode 3.

When compiling Wine on Mac OS X under some installs, it fails to find X11's
libraries and include files.
The only thing that I can think of that's different is the lack of imake and
xmkmf. The default Leopard X11 install includes imake and xmkmf, however, if
someone chooses to not install base X11 and instead install Xquartz at a later
date, they do not get imake and xmkmf because they are not shipped with Xquartz
as of 2.2.0 - see http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/X112.2.0 .
If the locations of X11's libraries and include files are specified with
--x-includes=/usr/X11/include and --x-libraries=/usr/X11/libs, Wine finds X11
and builds properly.

more problems I started to do so.
If necessary I can provide further information about my system.

When I try to listen an MP3 located on that server using foobar2k, Wine
crashes, and of course foobar2k crashes too. If I try to read (play) a .FLAC or
.OGG from the ubuntu server, I don't experience this issue at all ( the files
play normally ).
The files (mp3, ogg, .flac, etc...) are added to foobar2k playlist, the issue
comes when I try to play the added .mp3 files.
This issue is not present when I try to play an Mp3 from localhost using wine
of course.
Here is a link to download foobar2k , but I am pretty sure this is a Wine
issue, not a foobar issue. I haven't been able to install WinAMP to check if it
fails too.

Output from glxinfo command
Right now, when initializing OpenGL support, and determining the OpenGL
capabilities of the host system (in X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo()), Wine makes
a very crucial assumption: that the default visual supports GLX. This is not
necessarily true, so therefore Wine should not make this assumption.
In the 2.4.0 release candidate from the Xquartz project, for example, the
default visual does not support GLX. The fact that it doesn't caused the
glXCreateContext() call in the mentioned function to fail.
In particular, that call to glXCreateContext() fails with the following

That value in the message happens to be the ID of the default visual on my
system. Under 2.4.0 RC1, that visual doesn't support GLX. (In the next 2.4.0
RC, it will, for reasons which become apparent in the next paragraph.) I've
attached the output from glxinfo under that version, so you can see for
yourself.
I filed a bug with Xquartz (http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/ticket/287).
They told me they would fix it (and they did, and the fix is going into the
next 2.4.0 RC), but they also warned me that the default visual for a given
display and screen doesn't have to support GLX, and that I should report this
to WineHQ.

displays this message:

select another driver if available.
You must click Apply for the selection to take effect.
When I hit OK on that message, winecfg briefly stays up with no menu options in

I thought this might be a duplicate of bug 4051, but since wine no longer uses

I've not tested what happens when you end a race "normally" (by timeout or

Hi,

With a recent git, I stumbled on the following:

I checked out a few revisions and narrowed down the issue to be between:
"kernel32: Add call frame annotations in x86 assembly code." (which works) and
"loader: Reserve some more memory to cover the native ole32 addresses." (which
does not work).

winefile screenshot of icon corruption
I've narrowed down graphical corruption with some icons on Wine compiled from
source on Mac OS X, specifically using Git on OS X 10.6.4, the latest update of
Snow Leopard. I do *not* see this on CentOS or Fedora hosts using Nvidia
drivers. I have only seen it on Mac OS X so far, on 10.5/Leopard and 10.6/Snow
Leopard.
I'm using the system-supplied X11 application on 10.6, and Xcode 3.2.3 which
equates to GCC:
**
rbwmbp:~ ryan.woodsmall$ gcc -v
Using built-in specs.

gcc version 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5664)
**
No special CFLAGS other than "-m32 -arch i386 -I/usr/X11/include" were used.
This happens in a completely empty, new prefix with no overrides, winetricks,
or anything else non-standard.
This corruption shows up in a number of apps, but I'm using winefile from a
source compile to verify the issue. I performed a bisect, and this issue
appears to have come up between 1.1.44 and 1.2-rc1; it is still an issue in the
release of 1.2 as well as the Git master. The bisect reveals the commit where
this issue first appears as:

Reverting the patch with "git show ea596f8a5f7d732bb56b5921ceb964137df0b930 |
patch -p1 -R" allows icons to appear as expected. A quick check of
physDevSrc->depth with printf shows a number of the passed values to be 24,
triggering the new get_no_alpha_mask path and resulting in the icon corruption.
Unfortunately I'm a bit out of my depth on the XRender extension, particularly
on the weird OS X X11 app, and the winex11.drv code. I didn't really notice
this issue until after the code freeze, and ran winefile and a few winetricks
to test the new release. I'll keep looking around the source and reading up on
XRender, but even if this is a simple fix I'm not sure I'll be able to fix it
simply and quickly.
Thanks all, and let me know if there's anything else I can provide!
