This could be a driver bug or we have to set the glColorMask for index 0 or
the mixing of glColorMask and glColorMaskIndexedEXT calls is a bit tricky. I
haven't found the spec for glColorMaskIndexedEXT to have a look.
This happens with a geforce 8800gts, 195.36.24.

Summary: Rome Total War 1.5: Mouse movement at screen borders
does not cause desired behavior
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc3
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tjlyon(a)gmail.com
This happens with Rome Total War ver. 1.5 as installed from the Gold Edition
pack. It also happens in the Barbarian Invasion expansion.
On the campaign map, moving the mouse to the borders of the screen is supposed
to move the campaign map around. However, it only works when moving the mouse
to the top or to the left sides of the screen. It does nothing at the right or
bottom sides.
Similar behavior is experienced in the battle screens. Nothing happens when
moving the mouse to the right or bottom sides, when it is supposed to move or
rotate the view.
This might sound like not such a big deal, but for me it makes the battles
practically unplayable.

Summary: Spore, Sims 3: Only sound and cursor, no graphics,
with intel cards
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.23
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: pamarca(a)gmail.com
Spore and the sims 3 can be installed and loaded on computers with intel
graphic cards, however, they only show a black screen with the cursor, and
sounds. Playing around with the cursor and clicking shows that one can interact
with the menus, but there is no graphical output besides the cursor. I know,
though I havent tested it myself, that these games can be played in windows
with the same hardware.
I know Intel drivers haven't worked very good for some time now, but the latest
versions can handle native linux games like nexuiz and openarena very well.
What is it then, that doesnt allow this games to be properly displayed with
wine? Is it a wine problem, or is it the intel drivers that dont support
certain technologies that are needed?
My testing computer is an hp pavilion dv2000 with ~2500 mb RAM, an intel dual
core proccessor, and the video card appears listed as Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller. Though, I think this problem should be common
to many more games and intel cards.
I selected the wine version as 1.1.23, but I have used every version since
1.1.10 with the same result.

I am unable to identify substitution of the font of interest.
If I only put Impact.TTF into "drive_c/windows/fonts", Diablo still crashes.
Replacing the file with Arial.TTF in this dir gives me quite different +font
log.
In the case of crash I see WineEngInit() is clearly being called a bit earlier
in the process of wineboot.exe.
In this case "services.exe" is also started earlier than ReadFontDir() from the
"winemenubuilder.exe" finds the font being tested (Impact.TTF). If I replace
the font and things don't crash, then ReadFontDir() finds Arial.TTF way before
"services.exe" is started.
Then there are differences in the AddFontToList() action:
0009:warn:font:AddFontToList Ignoring font ".../wine/fonts//vgasysg.fon"/(nil)
0009:trace:font:ReadFontDir Found "vgasysr.fon" in ".../wine/fonts/"

0009:trace:font:AddFontToList Loading font file ".../wine/fonts//vgas1255.fon"
index 0
0009 thread is the main thread of Diablo.
0019 thread is the main thread of explorer.exe
If 0019 are filtered out, in the case of crash we see two lines disappearing:
-0009:warn:font:AddFontToList Ignoring font ".../wine/fonts//vgasysr.fon"/(nil)
-0009:trace:font:AddFontToList Loading font file ".../wine/fonts//vgasyst.fon"
index 0
Seems like some interprocess race.
Or probably logging engine has eaten them up. I see quite a few broken lines
in my +font logs.
load_fontconfig_fonts() was called 668 times in the case of crash. In the case
of success the number is reduced to 446. This is surprising as non-crashing
case generates 2x bigger log.
Could race condition be a cause of this bug?

Folks, lets stop reporting workardounds. There are plenty of them here
already. Thanks:)

>

Benjamin, the first your statement needs confirmation. In negative case the
second statement would mean workaround for the bug. We need to replicate
Windows behaviour instead.
Lets follow to the summary of Jesse Allen's investigation.
(In reply to comment #64 from Jesse Allen 2006-09-15)
> Aha! I know why I need 26 more lines! For whatever reason, the font chosen
> makes *all* the geometry of the bitmaps scale to fit it and with the sserife.fon
> 26 of the screen's lines ends up off the screen, which would be a problem if not
> all of it fits on the buffer of the surface.
>
> Observable using the opengl backend which won't crash btw.
Nice. So to behave like Windows we need (1) to know what font the game
requested + what font was chosen by (various) Windows font substitution
engines.
(2) The next step is to investigate whether Wine returns the same result
(testcase is probably still absent from the test suite).
(3) If the results are same, then Wine font being chosen or font rendering code
should be modified so the things don't scale up too much (additional testcases
required).
(4) If the results differ, then Wine font substitution engine should be
modified to choose the required fonts.
(5) Then if games still suffers the crash, we should return to step 3.
PS: code for test cases would be very nice regardless any yes-no switches here.

Hello,
can't reproduce this with wine-1.3.0-166-g277040d and clean WINEPREFIX.
This problem was most likely a fusion API related insufficiency which has been
fixed a long time ago.
Probably failure to enumerate DirectX assemblies in system GAC due to stubs.
Resolving fixed. Reopen if this still happens on recent Wine.
There is no 'winetricks dotnet20' needed as Wine's fusion is mature enough for
this.
Regards

Summary: Running games in windowed mode causes secondary
monitor to shutdown in TwinView mode.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ben.r.xiao(a)gmail.com
Running Perfect World International and Source-engine based games in windowed
mode will cause the secondary monitor in Nvidia TwinView to shutoff. It seems
like these games are switching to the native resolution of the primary display
rather than keeping the combined TwinView resolution.
For example, I have a 1680x1050 primary monitor and a 1440x900 secondary
monitor. This gives me a TwinView resolution of 3120x1050. When I launch
Perfect World or a Source-engine based game in windowed mode, the resolution is
changed to 1680x1050, which shuts off my secondary monitor. Games running in
windowed mode should NOT change desktop resolution.
