Summary: StarCraft2 screen garbled as "bad glass" on ATI cards,
when not using orm=backbuffer
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.0
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: NightNord(a)gmail.com
With any OffscreenRenderingMode other than backbuffer, game screen (both in
menu and missions) is garbled as shown on photo. There is few moments about
this garbling:
1) It happens only if SC2 rendering size is the same as you monitor resolution.
I.e. if you are playing fullscreen OR using virtual desktop with same size,
dispite of virtual desktop's window state.
2) It could be reverted by switching resolution or windowing mode in-game. But
it will return when;
a) You are entering settings, from menu or from in-game, doesn't matter.
b) On loading screen, at ~90% of load.
Common surrounding of reappearing of the bug is that at this moment screen
flickers once.
When you are using orm=backbuffer, but also appears at noted actions for a few
seconds, but then screen reverting back to normal.
Photo attached are done with settings:
orm=fbo
videomemorysize=512 (unrelated)
UseGLSL=disabled (unrelated, but fixes another bug)
This is not only wine related, as same bug could be encountered in native games
and screen isn't cleared on SC2 exit until you will (blindly) execute something
like xrandr -s 1,
I'm making photo of this bug, as I've failed to make screenshot - i'm getting
black image every time with any tool. Also note, that only right part of screen
is heavily garbled, while left part is mostly clear, and this is as it always
is.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_word#Word_1981_to_1989,
the full version of Microsoft Word 5.5 for DOS is available
for free download from Microsoft's servers. The filename is Wd55_ben.exe
and the sha1sum is da7c939d6bd7b06d91d3abe6094bd6e424009089.
The app is delivered as a self-extracting zipfile.
Letting it unpack itself curiously unpacks everything
in the same directory, leading to multiple clashes.
Better to unpack it with unzip, then it puts things in
multiple directories with no clashes.
Running the unpacked SETUP.EXE fails with
SYS2090: The system is unable to load the program.
According to http://pages.videotron.com/mikereid/readme.txt,
this error means insufficient free memory.

and then it outputs the SYS2090 message. Evidently it tries to
resize a block of memory to the maximum possible size in the
DOS memory space (1MB, or 65535 paragraphs); DOS replies
"sorry, you can only resize that to 36661 paragraphs"; the
app says "OK, mate, give me 36661 paragraphs"; and DOS
says "Ha, ha, fooled you, you can't have that after all."
I'd abort if it were me, too.
Looking at winedos/int21.c:DOSVM_Int21Handler and
winedos/dosmem.c:DOSMEM_ResizeBlock, it looks like the
resize functionality isn't yet implemented.

After I first launched the game it claimed
that d3dx9_25.dll could not be found.
So I downloaded it from this url:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_25
I moved it to:
~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/3000AD/Universal Combat/
I launch the game with this command:
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/3000AD/Universal\ Combat
env WINEDEBUG=fixme-all WINEPREFIX="~/.wine" wine
"C:\Programme\3000AD\Universal Combat\uc.exe"
The game has to be launched from the install directory
because otherwise it claims the the config files
can not be found.
After executing the command sometimes a black game window
appears without changing and sometimes it does not.
But the error messages from wine are always the same
and can be found in the attachment.
Can someone confirm this bug or present a fix?

This crash happens when a character portrait image request fails.
It can be reproduced instantly on login by overriding the image server dns so
it always fails:
echo "127.0.0.1 images.cdn1.eveonline.com" >> /etc/hosts
I tried this on my Windows Vista laptop, and when I did the same hosts file
thing, the game played normally with all character portraits being replaced by
the default.

wined3d: Set the currently active context to NULL when it's destroyed.
This should make us crash when trying to use the "currently active" context
after it has been destroyed, rather than messing around with freed memory.

Currently page states "To set them you should launch wine regedit and then go
to the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Environment"
In wine-1.0.1 the key does not exist. I eventually found it at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/SessionManager/Environment

See http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=10782. The missing replies the
poster refers to are in the mailing list archives. Other threads are also
affected.
I did a spot-check comparison of the forum and archives, and it looks like
nothing from the mailing list has made it to the forum since mid-September,
2010.

The link 'hint' should go to http://www.winehq.org/history
rather than to http://www.winehq.org/about
otherwise people could get lost.
